Orthotics. I had a leg that healed 1" shorter than normal from a femur fracture . I had terrible back pain and I had to have 1"added to all my right shoes to have a normal gait. 5th Ave added a light sole and kept the original shoe sole and added it to the bottom to match the sole of the left shoe for grip and traction. The repair was light and I could walk with a regular gait again and no back pain. Thank you Carl and Stephanie for the excellent service and repair. read more

Dropped off a Tom Ford and a Fendi belt to have shortened and was told it would take a week. I then stopped in a week later and was told I had to wait for a "sewing machine to be repaired to do the job." When I called a month later, they couldn't find the paperwork to find out the status of my job, so I stopped by to just pick up my belts. "He's working on them right now. Come back in 45 minutes." I came back and was handed my belts with the ends sheared off at a blunt edge (Supposed to be rounded) and the edges painted black. I had to throw them away. My designer belts were completely destroyed. The only redeemable part of this experience was I refunded the cost of the "repair" when I complained. Do not use this repair shop for your leather goods unless you just don't care about quality and good customer service. read more

I dropped off a leather bag back in January 2024 to get new handles and strapped installed they said no problem yes they could do the work and it should be ready in March. March came and they said it would be ready in April. April came and they said it would be ready in May. May came and I got tired of excuses. The store is highly disorganized and I think that businees is hanging by a thread. I would honestly like elsewhere for shoe repair. read more

I was referred to this shop by Boot Country, which I felt was a trustworthy recommend. I dropped my boots off for a simple bootstrap install, one on the top-rear of each boot--pretty simple. The floor around the customer service area was covered with stacks of Rubbermaid-type tubs and large cardboard boxes--dozens of them, full of shoes and boots. That should have been a clue. I was given a pick-up date of two and a half-weeks, which included the Thanksgiving holiday. I thought it ample time for this small job. Come due date and no phone call, so a couple of days later I went down to see how things were going. No repair, so I opted to pick them up and take my business elsewhere. During my half-hour wait the business phone rang several times and was on a record message mode. I heard one guy asking about a pair of shoes he'd brought in before Halloween--6 weeks ago. After rummaging through several tubs and boxes the clerk finally came across my pair. I was just happy she found them--this place is so disorganized I'm pretty sure they won't be in business much longer. It's unfortunate because the folks that work there seem to be very nice. read more

Got my sandals back. Another great job! Got new bottoms on the heals and a new hole punched on each for a tighter fit. They are swamped! No wonder they moved to a larger location. I hope they are able to get more help to organize the shop inside to allow customers to come inside instead of having to wait outside. Because they have so much more business now at their own large shop, it may still take longer for the repair of shoes. Bare with them until they get back in the groove. I will return for future repairs. This is their new location next door to Mr. Prime Beef just down the street from their old location at the Boot Country store. Went by and called to be let in as it is "curb side service" A lady on the phone which I could see never answered my call or acknowledged while I stood out in 5 degree tempature! That didn't last long and I will not call back or return! read more

I usually refer to this place as boot country as it is in the same building and the name boot country is above that. I have brought the same 2 pairs of danskos for repair over the last 5 years (yes, I know, but danskos look great, feel great, and gosh darn it I like them!) for repair as I rip the side seam after a while. The seamstress does great work and always give them a good polish. Once I brought in a pair of boots to get re-heeled and they even fixed the partial chew out of the side from my awesome dog. They ususally get my shoes back to me within a week if they're really backed up, but sometimes next day. I highly recommend. read more

they moved down the road ...now next to mr. prime beef....they used to be in "boot country"....i revently stopped by their new location....only to find they were hiding behind their door...locked....i was supposed to "drop off my boots" ....they would come outside....had to talk to some woman with a baby...thru the glass window....who told me they were busy...& it would be 1-1/2 months befor they could do a simple boot repair...when they were down @ boot country they chrged me almost $40 for a pos repair.....needless to say i left.....woman was suprised i didnt want to wait a month or so.....duhhhh!!! good news.....i found era repair down on fireweed ( near "a")....nice little old korean cobbler.....really knows his stuff....he got it done....complete rebuild.....in only 5 days!!!!!!! avoid 5th ave.....theyre working on going out of business... I still give a 5 star rating, the guy really does great work and you can tell he takes pride in it. One piece of advice though, if they tell you it will be ready on a certain day, find out if they will call when it is ready, or if you should call, i showed up an hour after opening the day mine were supposed to be ready, they told me another 4 hours, they called me 3 hiurs and 45 min. later saying they were done. read more

Called to get some repairs done and all seemed well but wasn't given price. Dropped off shoes with phone number to call when they looked at them. Waited about a week to hear but nothing so I decided to call and was told shows were already repaired with no price quote or anything. Then on top of that they charged substantially more than other stores in town. Steer clear unless you enjoy paying high price for comparable work to anywhere else. read more

If you have shoes or boots that deserve a"tune-up" or adjustment, this is your best solution in Alaska. This shop is the last of its kind in the area, perhaps the country. They sell the best foot gear and they adjust anything made of leather. I bought reasonably priced walking shoes and they adjusted and stretched them to fit my swollen feet. The owner inherited the shop; he's worked there since the mid-seventies, 40 years ago. He learned traditional skills and builds on his experience. If there is someone else better suited to help you, they'll send you there. What more could you ask for? read more

I took in a new pair of shoes to have soles installed and was quoted one price. When I got them back they were only half done and was told that it would be nearly double the price to have the heels done. When I returned to pick them up (again) I was told yet an even higher price. The manager, Linda was the one who dealt with my order the second time around. She was rude, profane, and unprofessional about the whole transaction. It was no wonder they appear to not get much business. I will never return and would not recommend them to anyone. They are a bad act, dishonest, and the work done is shoddy for the price I paid. read more

I love this place! I have a very crooked spine and have to have special modifications made to all my right shoes, as well as an occasional leather repair job. They have been able to do this for everything from Birkenstocks, to leather dress boots, to my Baffin snowmobile boots. How wonderful that we still have a small town shoe and boot repair shop, with an excellent leather craftsman! I'm worried this is a dying craft, so feel very fortunate that they are here and have served me for many years. They are also very personable and friendly. Thank you, guys! read more

We have brought in shoes, boots, and sandals, good craftsmanship and helpfulness. We do not live in Anchorage so we mail our shoes in on occasion and they ship them back. Yes it costs a bit for shipping but saves us a day-long car trip. Hard to find a great shoe repair place anymore. We do appreciate these folks very much. read more

This is a horrible shoe repair store. They were suppose to fix a pair of boots for me and failed big time. The first time I went there to pick up my boots I noticed that the sole of the boot in some place were not fixed. I brought it to there attention and they said they fix it in 3 days.....10 days later I called to pick them up and guess what once again the boots were not fixed. DO NOT GO TO THIS STORE! read more
