I got here just before 10:00 and my hubby's garments will be ready after 5:00! Super fast!! I brought in about 1/2 dozen dress shirts and about a dozen sweaters (getting ready for the autumn and winter season early!) and was impressed by the in and out swiftness! Excellent service! Called this place on Friday morning frantically looking for a dry cleaner that would steam a bridesmaids dress for me that was needed in less than 24 hours. This must've been the 10th place I called, but the only one that said they could do it. I'm new to RVA and I've been looking for a good cleaners to trust my cloths with. Unfortunately this is not the place. This is the second location. I explained to the young lady that took my order that my items are important to me. I'm not a small girl so When I find good pieces of clothing I need to take care of them. My cloths are not only full of stains but they are faded and full of lint and hair and other stuff. Also, my sweater has an oil like stain on it - right in the front. I'm really bothered. I read the reviews before trying this place. I should have known something was wrong when the name on the business did not match the name in Yelp. I paid for 6 pieces of clothing. Each piece had a stain or some hair or furry substance on it. I spent 2 hours spotting, using a lint roller, and a comb/shaver trying to clean and de-lint my items. read more

All good things must come to an end. I have been a customer here for about 20 years. I have seen at least two different owners and now three, as this cleaners is apparently under new management and ever since then, there has been a line out the door and a minimum 10 to 15 minute wait. It used to be if you got your item in by 10 AM, you could get it the same day after five. If after 10 AM, you could get it the next day after five. I brought my items Monday just before 5, and they weren't ready when I came in Wednesday after lunch. When I asked about it, the new guy first asks me if he was the one who collected my items (he was). THEN he said he argues with me telling me he asked me if I needed it immediately or if it could wait until the usual time. He never had that conversation with me. He was indignant that he did and then had the nerve to call me rude for telling him he didn't. Why would he ask me if he collected my items? (He didn't remember. I did.) If he asked me that, I wouldn't have been surprised that my items weren't ready by Wednesday afternoon. Why would I have asked if it takes two days now if he had that conversation with me? All I asked was if it takes two days. He then proceeds to tell me about how short staffed he is and can't get anybody to work for him when that is not my business or concern, nor is it an excuse. My dry cleaners closed abruptly, so I needed a new one quickly. My son gave me his suits 2 days before his 5am flight for an interview in Colorado. I dropped them off after 3 pm Monday. I had a meeting on the Southside @4:30 pm Tuesday with an event in Midlothian @5:30. I called the dry cleaners at 3:45 because I couldn't find my receipt. The employee that answered found my clothing and told they were ready before the after 5pm time promised on Monday. My son packed his suits and Everton is happy!!! Updating review based on owner engagement. To clarify, I understand that laundering takes longer,this was the date I was told by employees to pick up, part of the laundering was ready,part was not. Also understand about closing time.but at 701 they had already shut everything down,drawers pulled and counted, etc. I wrote the review in front of the door and they were still hanging out when I departed at 717. Was just frustrating to literally pull into the space in front of the door,have the lady then go to the door and shut and lock it,then go turn off the open sign, and then proceed to just point at the hours on the door. Yes I was late by a minute but would be nice have a customer service oriented experience, that wouldn't have taken much effort, that shows a business actually cares. read more

I haven't used 5th Avenue for well over 2 years. However, I still get their requests for a review. I must admit that when I used them on a regular basis, I had excellent service from them. And I rated them the same on numerous occasions. However, I now constantly receive solicitations for discounts "for new customers only". Going from their original rate of $1.99 per piece to their current rates, does not make it worthwhile for me to travel 25 minutes to continue to use them. read more

Good service, great cleaning, and what had to be the best price in the business. I had a chiffon formal gown in my closet that was never cleaned after I wore it to a wedding. It had clearly been loved, and had months old makeup and drink stains. I really didn't believe that it could be totally refreshed without costing an arm and a leg, and fully expected 5th Avenue Cleaners to have an additional charge for this "specialty" item. But they really did work their magic, and for only $2.69! In less than 24 hours my dress was stain and odor free and might as well be brand new again. I have been using 5th Avenue Cleaners for years. I use to use others which were considerably higher and the work was considerably inferior. I decided I would use 5th Avenue exclusively because I always feel appreciated and know my clothes will be cleaned properly the first time and no damages. 5th Avenue Cleaners is NOT closed. You just might not recognize it because the sign out front says $2.29 cleaners, not 5th Avenue cleaners. But when I looked at my most recent receipt I realized 5th Avenue is actually the name. This is my favorite dry cleaner right now. It's cheap ($2.29 no matter what!), everything I've taken in has come back clean, and service is prompt and friendly. I'm always greeted with a hello, a ma'am and I get a thank you when I leave, even if I'm only picking up two things. If you bring something in before 10 a.m. you can pick it up after 5 p.m. Otherwise, it'll be ready the next day after 5 p.m. I've taken tons of stuff here, often like 10 items at a time, and nothing has gotten lost. Everything comes back quickly and clean. If you bring in a dress with a belt and want the belt cleaned too, the belt will be charged as one item as will the dress. I'd like to complain about this, but hey, you're still only paying $4.58 to get a dress cleaned! I also have a feeling this keeps things from getting lost. Great dry cleaner! read more

I have used this place at least five times. This place is also called "2.29 Cleaner". I used them because it is close to where I live and it is cheap. But almost all the time I had issues with their work. I had to return because they were in the same condition, only difference being the ironing. Every time I return them they gave me an annoying look instead of apologizing. I don't think they clean our clothes, they just iron them and charge $2.29/piece. I started using 5th Avenue Cleaners about 3 months ago and they seemed to do fine on the cleaning. I recently took in 10 items. Everything came back fine except that my suit coat jackets still had wrinkles on the right sleeves of all three jackets. They reluctantly agreed to re-press them. When I picked them up we checked again and the right sleeves were still wrinkled and did not look pressed. They said there was nothing they could do. I have never had a problem with the sleeves remaining wrinkled when done by any other cleaners. I think they must steam the sleeves and only press the large flat areas is my guess. Lynn W. read more

So I returned to the dry cleaners today. The associates looked for 20 minutes for my missing button. The owner gave me 2 options : 1) I could go out and try to find a matching button. 2) It's been more than 30 days and there is nothing they can do. Word to the wise - check for stains, missing button, broken zippers or any other damage before you leave 5th Avenue Cleaners. You have the right to examine your items even if it's an inconvenience the other customers. read more

I wish I could give zero stars. One representative -- who I believe to be the owner -- ruined it all this evening. It's unfortunate, because I've been using this dry cleaner for several years. This evening around 6:09, I went in because one of the two front doors was propped open. (The door that wasn't propped open stated they were open until 7:00.) I didn't see anyone. I called out twice, then rang the bell. A man -- the one I believe to be the owner -- came out from the back. He didn't say hello. He barked, "We close at 6:00." It wasn't a great way to greet a customer, and I told him as much. Then, he acted like he was doing me a huge favor by getting my jacket. I pointed out to him that the door was propped open, and the visible hours on the door clearly indicated a 7:00 closing time. He said he wasn't "being mean." But that's how I, a paying customer, took it. He continued to mutter as he was getting my jacket. I was so shocked at his treatment that I said "Great service" and left. The man -- who, again, I believe to be the OWNER -- actually followed me out the door, yelled "JESUS CHRIST!" and slammed the door. (I guess that's one way to let people know you're closed. Yikes. Totally rude and unprofessional.) As I said, I have used this dry cleaner for years. I was willing to overlook the unprofessional service and the very rude elderly lady that other reviews mention. (I feel bad for the staff working when she is. If she treats the customers that way, I don't even want to think about how she treats the employees.) They do a fine job cleaning. If the man who followed me out of the store yelling this evening was, in fact, the owner, please be aware of how he feels about his customers. Based on his attitude this evening, I am quite sure that he will respond (if he chooses to respond...) that this was not his fault and he didn't intend to be rude. But the fact is that he was rude to a customer and I let him know I didn't appreciate it. He didn't seem accustomed to being told he had mistreated a customer! Fortunately, even if he doesn't apologize (which I don't expect, based on his deplorable attitude toward me!) I can choose to take my business elsewhere. Maybe he will prove me wrong. For now, I'm appalled at the way I was treated. read more

The customer service here is horrendous. I went to drop of my clothes for the first time, and not that experienced with the different services they have. The elderly lady who is either the manager or owner was extremely RUDE and impatient! She keep rolling her eyes every time I asked a question, breathing hard out of annoyance and snatched all my clothes as if I was a burden to her work day. I then came back to pick up my clothes at 4:50 and the heavy set younger woman with the tattoos on her arm had terrible attitude also. This was by far my worst dry cleaning experience ever!!! I had been a customer for several months and never had a problem until some of my clothes were ruined. When I reported the damage to the owner (not an employee) he was exremely rude and denied liability before he even saw the damage. The pieces that were ruined were some of my favorites that I wear all the time so I know without a shadow of a doubt, this cleaners reuined them. One of my pairs of pants had a huge iron looking burn mark that was so large, I can't beleive they had the audacity to place them in a dry cleaning bag and return them to me as if I wouldn't notice. I felt this was a shady buisness practice and very dishonest. As I checked my other clothes, I noticed some discoloration on my nice business jacket. Again, they placed this item in with the rest as if nothing had happened. The owner was so horrible, rude and mean, I will never recommend this place to anyone. Also my clothes would always have this weird smell like Formaldehyde. A very nasty smell that I complained about but the smell was always there. You take your chances when you take your clothes to a place where the owner does not care about anything but collecting your money. This was the most horrifying experence to me primarily by the way I was treated by the owner after being a loyal customer. Definitely would never recommend you take anything expensive here. read more

I needed to be able to love this place. The prices at Puritan Cleaners are killing me. They are fantastically inexpensive. And, they were able to get our an old ring around the color stain that had been missed by a previous dry cleaner and left on a shirt for 3 years. My first hiccup was with a long robe (Slytherin) that I picked up at a thrift store. It came back with the same fuzz that it went in with. It's the kind of stuff that comes off of the shawls when everything is thrown together in a costume box. So, I had to roll it with a lint roller before giving it to my 12 year old and all was good. My deal breaker happened today. My husband is texting me at 6am from his business trip in Ohio telling me that there is a stain on the back of his shirt. The shirt was brand new. We had just gotten it back from the tailor. He'd never worn it and there was no stain at the final fitting. So, now I have to see if Puritan can remove this newly acquired stain and go back to spending a fortune on dry cleaning. Final verdict, I might use them for inexpensive things. But, don't risk it if you have custom suits, shirts, etc. read more

The shirts weren't ready Saturday, so I went back Monday morning when they said they would be ready and they weren't. Finally picked them up Monday afternoon and the patches on my shirts were ruined because they pressed them for to long. I will never return after this service read more

You definitely get what you pay for. I was under the impression that dry cleaners also do mending. Well, I was wrong. The woman there offered to do it for me under the table. Which I thought was really strange, but I agreed. We settled on a price and when I picked it up the mending was crooked and had gaps in it where the fabric had bunched. I guess you can take your dry-cleaning there, but don't make the same mistake I did. read more
