Very chill and relaxing and they have great cigars. I would add more bourbon selections but other than that it's a great place.

Insanely expensive cocktails, I'm not sure a splash of peppermint, raspberry liquor, and vodka warrants more than six bucks like Harry's yet nearly twenty be the price here. An unusual dive this, relaxed and inviting lounge area, upstairs gives good views and vibes; we liked the books and tuned in to the live music for most of the quieter songs. The evening got much busier after eleven surprisingly, a crew gathered for poker which was fun to watch. They offered some food but we had already dined. The egg nog cocktail would've further drained my wallet had it still been stocked! Wish they offered deals with the drinks to entice us younger budget based boys, charging more than twenty for a simple bourbon mix is limiting the return of those who can really enjoy the live music volume. Two of my friends did sample cigars. Mentioned they were fantastic and paired well alongside an excellent port. An espresso martini without dairy and a cranberry old fashioned fulfilled more good hopes too. I'll need to save up and perhaps try again! read more

We have tried this establishment twice and both times were underwhelming. The first time was on New Year's they said they had special drinks and food and we were expecting a fun evening, we left by ten pm. The drinks were not very good and the food was okay. The staff was attentive and friendly, the only positive with the visit. The next time was Kentucky Derby Day, again they advertised watching and specials for the watching of the derby. The owner even coaxed us in with the promise of a fun watching party. They didn't even have the race on, they did turn it on but the owner was unwilling to turn off the music so we could hear the race for the 3minutes it was on. The special event was a non-event. If this bar is going for a welcoming relaxed atmosphere then they should not have special events. The staff is friendly and welcoming. But the whole atmosphere of the place is off. We will not be trying it for a third time. It is just not worth the price or the stuffy owner who as it turns out is not very welcoming or accommodating to its clientele. read more

My husband and I have made it a habit to hang out here the last few years when we are in town for a kid-free Purdue game. The atmosphere is perfect for enjoying drinks, watching a game, and being able to have a conversation. Last night we brought my brother/sister-in-laws after the Purdue game and enjoyed lounging for a few hours with drinks while a couple of us had a cigar. However, the thing leading me to leave this review is the food. 648 has stepped up their game, and the food was INCREDIBLE. We had the smokehouse flatbread, truffle fries with beer cheese, and chocolate mousse cake handmade by the owner's wife. I was expecting normal bar appetizers, but it was anything but ordinary. The flatbread was a such a surprising delight of flavors that we literally are still talking about today. I can't recommend it enough. Our server was so attentive and kind, giving guidance about trying a couple cigars and accommodating extra requests from the kitchen. The owner checked in on us several times to make sure our visit was enjoyable. Go for the ambience, enjoy some kid-free time, and expect to be blown away by the food! This used to be one of our favorite places to spend an evening but the quality of service has gone down drastically since the new owner took over not too long ago. We have been in multiple times since ownership changed and each time, service gets worse. It is ridiculous when you don't have anyone come to get a drink order after waiting 15-20 minutes when there are only 4 other patrons in there. The 4 people that were in there on our most recent visit had empty glasses when we arrived and still did when we left after no one taking our drink order for nearly 20 minutes. No one even approached them while we were there to see if they needed anything. They also used to have a great manager that made sure the other employees were attentive to customers but we didn't see him the last couple of times we were in there. I can't imagine this place sticking around much longer with the new owner running things. I know we won't be back. Worth the drive to Indy for a much better cigar selection, atmosphere, and service. read more

I visited Purdue to hang out with some friends for the Purdue/MSU football. BTFU!!! I was in the hotel room recovering from the W last night and I was just watching football on TV. Then I saw an advertisement for 648 Bourbon and Cigar Lounge on TV. I looked it up and I saw it was located right downtown Lafayette and not out near the highway. If you follow me, then you know I am a Bourbon Enthusiast so I had to check it out after dinner at Nine Irish Brothers on a Sunday night. I was pretty much the only person there on a Sunday night, but a few industry people came into the bar and we had a good time! The atmosphere is very cool! It was super cozy with a warm/modern vibe. They have a TV and a poker table in the back along with a nice upstairs and decent sized bar. The chairs at the tables looked insanely comfy and it was a lounge like environment. Quiet background music too so you can have a conversation. They say Bourbon and Cigars, but they are also a cocktail bar and they have lots of wine. I didn't try their food as I just ate dinner, but they offer that as well. I wasn't going to smoke a cigar as I smoked a lot of Hookah last night, but another patron smoked one and it smelled really good so I was like YOLO. I only smoke cigars a few times a year so I am a noob when it comes to them. I like sweeter cigars as they are easier on the stomach and Ryan, the bartender, gave me a great recommendation, the Acid Blondie. It was a smaller cigar, but it was very smooth and definitely sweet! Prices weren't outrageous either. 648's whiskey selection is quite expansive and one of the best I've seen! Definitely the best in the Lafayette/West Lafayette area and it beats a lot of places in Chicago because of their prices. They have some a lot of unicorns like some of the Pappy Van Winkle collection, George T Stagg, Stagg Jr., Weller, EHT, etc. They also have Eaglerare, Blanton's, and a ton of others at all price ranges. I ordered a Weller Full Proof, Little Book (Chapter 4 or 5 probably), Old Fashioned (Killed off their Sazerac Rye), and Bradshaw's Bourbon to celebrate the Purdue W! Overall, their prices were pretty good and then some whiskey prices were pretty bad. That happens at a whiskey bar, but you can definitely find some good deals here and their prices are good overall. Ryan, the bartender was great! He made me an amazing Old Fashioned (with a big rock) and he had a great cigar recommendation for me. I didn't try their food, but that would be something to try next time. 648 has a prime location right in downtown Lafayette next to DT Kirby's. This is definitely a great place to come and socialize with friends and they have an awesome layout. If you are a Bourbon Enthusiast and love cigars, cocktail fan, or wine lover, then you should definitely give this place a try! read more

I'm not a regular cigar smoker but this place is great. They have cigars that you can buy there OR you can feel free to bring your own! The bartenders are always super friendly and are willing to educate you about the cocktails and cigars. Best part for someone who doesn't regularly smoke: you won't smell when you leave! read more

Wife and I have made this our prefered cigar lounge when visiting our daughter at Purdue. The bourbon selection is outstanding--and clearly the house specialty -- yet they always have nice variety of single malt scotches on the whiskey list too. The little alcove seating areas provide just the right mix of cozy for a private conversation and open enough to encourage a "small party/living room" kind of vibe. Came in on a whim. The bartender Scott is an incredibly passionate and knowledgeable bartender and mixologist and can make literally any cocktail requested. The atmosphere is wonderful. Cannot say enough good things about this place. We had just left another bar down the street, but we noticed this hole in the wall on our way. We stopped in and were immediately greeted by Kei, one of the kindest and helpful people I've met in a while, let alone bartenders. My fiancee and I enjoyed a couple of drinks and a cigar while admiring the enchanting decor and watching football, the adams family and more on the many tvs. All in all, an amazing night out, and definitely a place we will be coming back to. read more
