Today was the BIGGEST day of the trip! A charter fishing excursion for our birthday boy! Birthday…read morein June but had to wait for the trip! It was a day of surrounding storms. There was so much lightning that we almost didn't get a chance to go. Thank goodness that all the Fish Gods were on our side. Enjoyed a breathtaking sunrise. I could have had 1,000 more photos but there were fish to be caught! Taking off through the bays at what seemed like 100 miles an hour, we felt so confident in Captain Chris. He avoided all the rain and we fished to the last possible second. We hands down caught over 100 fish! That is not a fish tale! They just kept coming! Some bigger, some smaller...some micro sized! Cooper loved all of the fish, just one after another. It never stopped. Action on all of our poles the entire journey. Ethan, Norm and I had the time of our lives too! Fishing or should I say, catching all morning long! Croaker, white trout, speckled trout, don't quote me on that one, pigfish, catfish, spot, drum, a crab but just missed getting him in the boat. Even some oysters! We had a lot of shark bites on our bait. It so happens that I caught the biggest catch of the day. 25 pound Black Drum. It happened so quickly. Coop suggested where I could fish in the front by him. At least when I was bringing him up he sat me down, kept a watchful eye and even wanted to hold me in the seat! If I could have changed it, I would have had him land it! I have to say I'm quite proud of my PB though! Captain Chris, a deep mahogany tan that was earned from the sea. A fisherman through and through. I could see him as a brother to Quint, the Captain from Jaws for those of you not familiar. He had just the right amount of sass and sarcasm to keep you on your toes and eventually you could toss it back to him. He told be he would use me as shark bait but they probably would spit me out! I don't doubt that! Chris could have hung out with our friends and drank beers so we could hear his lifetime of stories. Maybe he would want to fish Lake Michigan some time?! We all loved asking about charters and personal best catches, hearing his stories and other trips that didn't go according to planned. He knew the waters, incredible boat handler, extremely helpful with the fish. Locations and getting them removed with a blink of an eye. He was everything you could want in a fishing Captain and more! We all had the absolute best experience and would book again with Fins and Family Fishing! They have the tours reeled in! He knew we had a reservation to go fishing in a few days and scouted out a bald eagle's nest ahead of time to show us. He goes above and beyond any other small tour I've ever been on. He took us fishing - he more or less did all the work while we sat around drinking beers. He provided the bait, baited our hooks, unhooked our fish, told us exactly what to do and how to do it, and was always kind and patient with all of us. He cast for my grandmother and helped her reel in her fish. Sonny is the best. If you're in the area and looking for a way to spend an afternoon, a tour with Captain Sonny is the best.

He didn't hardly even speak to us except to repeat 3x, "do not thrown toilet paper in the toilet, put it in the basket only". Which was ironic since there was no toilet paper anywhere on that boat. The main reason we were willing to pay more for a boat with a toilet, yet we couldn't use it. Unbelievable...how cheap do you have to be to make the customers provide their own toilet paper??? Also, when comparing boat to price in the area, this boat seems way over priced for the age and condition it's in. It looks nothing like it does on the website...maybe when it was new, but certainly not now. As for the captain, we don't even know his name because he never introduced himself but he did manage to be very snippy towards the deck hand. The fishing equipment kept breaking which took time away from fishing. The one time the Capt. came down from his perch, we got to over hear him telling the deck hand that the last deck hand, "broke all the equipment and took things out of spite. As soon as we got back to the dock Dale fired him". So why didn't he have it all fixed and replaced before we got on the boat??? Not to mention the equipment was all very old and wore out. We spent 3-4 hrs riding out and around looking for fish and 2 actually fishing. Nothing we caught was as over 10" long. The Captain didn't seem to know what he was doing at all. We didn't even catch 1 fish in the last hour. He didn't have a clue (or just didn't care) how to put us on any fish anywhere. We had asked the Captain as we were departing the marina, "what kind of fish can we expect to be catching?" And his response was "not much sense everything is out of season". We hoped he was joking, but he was not. No one told us this when we booked it? We had specifically asked about and said we wanted a private charter that we might expect to catch some big fish on, even if we had to throw them back. We just wanted to have lots of fun because it was a birthday present for someone in our group. The gentleman booking it said "oh you will catch some good ones, our captain's know how to put you on the fish and you will have a great time". We knew some fish were out of season so we'd be throwing a lot back but even the red snapper we caught and threw back were under 10" long. WTH??? We've been on several charter trips and this is by far the worst ever. The "fish weren't biting" excuse can't be applied here either because 3 other boats were at Zekes Marina cleaning fish when we got back and their haul was huge! We asked what kind of charters they were, thinking it was an 8 or 10 hr charter, but no, they were 4 and 6 hr charters like ours. Yet they caught bigger and more, not to mention their customers were laughing and going on and on about how much fun they had. We had NONE! If it weren't for our deck hand (who gets 5 stars) we would've been miserable! He was the saving grace to this crappy trip. We tipped him good because he tried very hard to take up the slack of this lackadaisical captain. We're sure business is so good for this company that they don't have to worry about customer service so our review won't bother them a bit. Nor will our bad experience cause them to loose sleep spending our hard earned $1400 we had to pay for this joke of a fishing trip. But know this, not that it means that much, Class Act Charters will never be recommended by us and will always be a very bad memory for us. Very disappointed, is an understatement!

When we arrived the gentleman behind the desk said he would put us on the next day trip and he would call by 5:00. No phone, we called back and found out that there was not a charter. Bad customer service. And the gentleman behind the desk said that "he did not have to do anything for us" meanwhile we lost 1hr drive time to this charter on Sunday morning. Maybe look elsewhere.
