Got 3 coffees and a can of soda. The soda was good. I couldn't say there was actually any coffee in the cups

As soon as we came in the door and looked around, someone at a table by the entrance told us we could just sit anywhere. If you are looking for fancy, this probably isn't the place for you. But if you are looking for a place where the food is amazing, the portions are large and the prices are incredibly reasonable, this is just the right place. Our server came over and greeted us quickly and brought our drinks right away. I came in with a friend and we did have one big problem. The menu is so full of great options, we had a hard time deciding. I had read many reviews on the place and decided to go with what they recommended. We both ordered the tenderloin sandwich. I got mine with just mayo and my friend got hers with mayo, tomatoes and lettuce. We split an order of fries between us and they were kind enough to just put half on each of our plates. Not that there was a lot of extra space on the plate because the tenderloin was huge. The sandwich came out super fresh and hot. It was lightly breaded and well seasoned. But what stood out to me most was that even though it was fried, it was not greasy. At all. We both thoroughly enjoyed our sandwiches. We were going to try a piece of the key lime pie but I had already ordered one for my husband to go so we ended up sharing a piece of the sugar cream pie. It's the Indiana state pie. Since I'm from Georgia, this is all new to me and I had never had it before. The crust was very flaky. I ate it all. And as someone that doesn't normally like the crust on pie, that says it a lot. The filling was denser than a custard and sweet. It was good. But my favorite was the key lime pie. I had a bite when I dropped off my husband's to go order at his office. The key lime pie crust was amazing and the filling had just the right amount of tart to it. Delicious. I am looking forward to coming back and absolutely recommend others try it. I still have so many menu items I want to try. Come in. And come in hungry because this place is guaranteed to make your tummy full and happy.

Located in Sweetser, Indiana right by the Sweetser Switch Trailhead (which leads into the Nickel…read morePlate), the Sweetser Cafe is a breakfast/brunch smalltown diner where locals gather, non-locals don't feel out of place, the food is good, and the welcome is warm. I stopped by on my Tenderness Tour because I was dragging a bit for the day and wanted to pick up an iced tea. Taking a camera crew (this tour was filmed from beginning to end) was a little awkward, however, the locals tolerated my presence quite nicely and I was able to have a great conversation with owners and employees about everything I was doing - a couple even donated to the cause and we got a great photo or two! The food here leans toward breakfast - like most breakfast/brunch joints - and this wasn't my first time here as I'd been here on a previous tour. Pricing is fair and definitely below an awful lot of Indy's brunch joints. While Sweetser Cafe doesn't have a website (that I'm aware of), they do have a social media presence and I do know they serve black angus beef, have daily specials, and are locally owned. Sweetser, Indiana is a smaller town of just about 1,000 in Grant County and is a great place to start for those tackling the Cardinal Greenway (Indiana's longest rail-trail). If you stop in Sweetser, you stop at Sweetser Cafe (at least before 2pm).

It still feels like playing roulette everywhere I go, so I prefer to make my own at home. I just cannot do caffeine. I mostly go to shops like this to feel like a human out doing something. The coffee tastes good, but 'm docking a star because even as I type this after leaving, I can feel the not fun effects of caffeine. It can be hit or miss with consistency of what constitutes a large and how milky your drink is, the prices seem to vary from visit to visit, and I often don't recognize the employees. High turnover? There is no public restroom which can be an issue whilst consuming beverages. Aroma also charges a fee if you pay with plastic, so I try to carry cash. I recall being charged for a cup of ice for my herbal tea in the past. Sometimes the tables aren't so clean and the baked goods case can have flies in it. It's looked better this summer. The wooden chairs can be wobbly. Overall it has decent atmosphere. It smells good like caramel when you walk in. There are two metal tables with cafe chairs as well as a bench outside, weather permitting. Rat Pack & classical outside. When music is on inside it's a different genre. The hours can be funky especially in winter or even be unexpectedly closed, but they are never open past 5 PM. Peru rolls the sidewalks up pretty early. I do like that they offer plant milk and have decaf without a weird lecture like the place around the corner... They usually have soy and almond. No coconut, but I usually go with soy lately anyway. Raw sugar, stevia for Lydia, and at least one decaffeinated tea. The baristas I've had recently were pretty pleasant. They have an array of baked goods including bagels and some other food and drink things in a refrigerated case. I've not ever tried the food myself though it looks good. I'm assuming it's local artwork which I've seen for sale on the walls along with handmade jewelry, mugs. They have a sandwich board for a donation program where you can buy a coffee for someone in need. Aroma has loyalty punch cards as well. You can enter the bakery next door through an adjoining door. Walking past I saw the case next door had cupcakes and heard a cake order being taken. So, while Aroma has flaws and I've been to better in other towns, the prices are pretty reasonable for this century and the atmosphere is alright. Cozy and on the Bohemian side. I don't go running there with excitement, but it's alright to sit and chat, especially when it's not crowded, which it often isn't. I like the downtown location.
