My husband and I were ready for a quick little breakfast and a spot of coffee, so we headed into aroma. My husband ordered plain ol' coffee, so I caved and did the same. I can't tell you if it was good---I never can tell if regular coffee is good by coffee-lover standards. It was just OK to me. We shared an apple fritter and a cream-filled donut. The fritter was light and airy, which was a nice change from the dense, heavy fritters I've grown accustomed to. The filled donut was adequate. White fluff-filled donuts are my go-to, but the cream didn't quite strike the right chord with me. Whatever it was I didn't like about it, that's what my husband raved about! This review suddenly doesn't feel very helpful. If you want a hometown coffee shop with cute decor, decent coffee, and assorted baked goods, this fits the bill! I had stayed away for quite awhile after a few incidents where I was served regular instead of decaf. It still feels like playing roulette everywhere I go, so I prefer to make my own at home. I just cannot do caffeine. I mostly go to shops like this to feel like a human out doing something. The coffee tastes good, but 'm docking a star because even as I type this after leaving, I can feel the not fun effects of caffeine. It can be hit or miss with consistency of what constitutes a large and how milky your drink is, the prices seem to vary from visit to visit, and I often don't recognize the employees. High turnover? There is no public restroom which can be an issue whilst consuming beverages. Aroma also charges a fee if you pay with plastic, so I try to carry cash. I recall being charged for a cup of ice for my herbal tea in the past. Sometimes the tables aren't so clean and the baked goods case can have flies in it. It's looked better this summer. The wooden chairs can be wobbly. Overall it has decent atmosphere. It smells good like caramel when you walk in. There are two metal tables with cafe chairs as well as a bench outside, weather permitting. Rat Pack & classical outside. When music is on inside it's a different genre. The hours can be funky especially in winter or even be unexpectedly closed, but they are never open past 5 PM. Peru rolls the sidewalks up pretty early. I do like that they offer plant milk and have decaf without a weird lecture like the place around the corner... They usually have soy and almond. No coconut, but I usually go with soy lately anyway. Raw sugar, stevia for Lydia, and at least one decaffeinated tea. The baristas I've had recently were pretty pleasant. They have an array of baked goods including bagels and some other food and drink things in a refrigerated case. I've not ever tried the food myself though it looks good. I'm assuming it's local artwork which I've seen for sale on the walls along with handmade jewelry, mugs. They have a sandwich board for a donation program where you can buy a coffee for someone in need. Aroma has loyalty punch cards as well. You can enter the bakery next door through an adjoining door. Walking past I saw the case next door had cupcakes and heard a cake order being taken. So, while Aroma has flaws and I've been to better in other towns, the prices are pretty reasonable for this century and the atmosphere is alright. Cozy and on the Bohemian side. I don't go running there with excitement, but it's alright to sit and chat, especially when it's not crowded, which it often isn't. I like the downtown location. read more

Weak 3 stars, bad = issues quiche was not warmed up, limited selection, tea you get a cup of hot water and put bag in yourself, worst was No public restroom available. Good was a freebie board - more tags needed nice there was one! Good coffee, tasty and was fast, hard to see favor selections. The workers were friendly. Hi, sweet hometown of Peru! I am really glad to see a coffeeshop here and enjoy coming when I am visiting home. Most recently stopped in while traveling and got two iced lattes (excellent - strong espresso and consistent syrup flavor with milk) and a coffee cake and cream cheese danish. Old fashioned atmosphere in a small antique downtown shop, super friendly service, enjoyable seasonal menu, plenty of foods and drinks, an egg nog latte caught my eye as well the nearly eight dollars dropped for it! Quite crazy to price a small town caffeine cozy like a Nashville barista, I didn't see any handcrafted ingredients either to work with that price, basic diabetes highway pumped into sugar coated plastic. Also surprising there was no glassware for dining in to help reduce landfills, another odd clash with the big cash cost here. My eggnog latte was tasty and very easy to drink but not a refined brew or a balanced beverage. Aroma could be fine for twice a year treats however there are much better options between me and Fort Wayne like Cosmo in Flora and Black Dog in Logansport. read more

While passing through Peru, I decided to give Aroma Coffee a try since it was getting such high ratings. The staff was friendly and the selection was good, but other than that, the place wasn't anything special. First, the space is small. The owners have the coffee shop on the left, a cake shop on the right, and a donut/bakery in the back. The space behind the counter is stuffed with supplies and the doorway between the bakery in the back is open, so it looks a bit industrial (not in a good way.) The dining/seating area is really small, so it could get full quickly. It just doesn't feel like the kind of coffee shop where you might bring your laptop and work for awhile like most of the new coffee shops in more metro areas provide. Maybe the owner doesn't care for that atmosphere, but visitors from out of town might. They do sell baked goods from the other business which offers a nice selection. The other missed mark for me was that the coffee was piping hot. I could barely hold the coffee even with the paper sleeve provided. Too hot to drink without scalding my palate. It wasn't burned, but without adding cream to cool it, it was just too hot to enjoy until later. Review #3070 read more

I will always appreciate a small-town coffee shop because that means I don't have to get gas station coffee. Last I checked Aroma gets their beans from a roaster in Terre Haute. The beans have that burnt popcorn vibe, which isn't my favorite, but given the price I'll can swing it. Also available: milk, pop, specialty drinks, donuts, and pastries. read more

This place is super cute! The young man that was working was very helpful and friendly. I'm a little particular about my coffee (latte). They have homemade baked goods- blueberry muffins and donuts. Cute little place with great atmosphere. If you're passing through town, you'll find prices competitive. Not a huge coffee selection. Pastries are just OK but definitely not grocery store grade. Good music spinning and the workers were just kind of adorable. Both young, cracking jokes but not inappropriately. I'll come back next time court brings me to town. read more

If you're looking for a quaint, small town coffee shop with high quality coffee at a good small town price, Aroma is where you should be! The service was great, very friendly and quick service. I love the cozy atmosphere that Aroma provides. It makes for a perfect morning, come in, grab my favorite low fat white mocha latte or mocha frappe OR just a regular cup, have a seat and read a good book! Perfect for lazy rainy days. There menu was pretty open to many kinds of drinks. I have no doubt even the anti- coffee lovers can find something to please their taste buds! And of course, don't forget the Derozier's donuts!!!! It's like every good cup of coffee that I've been waiting to have. It's quite simple place and very casual.The staff is friendly and there's nothing complicated. They falsely advertised that they would be open til 3:00 PM. I arrived at 1:30 PM and they refused to take my order, despite being open. Extremely rude attitude and horrible customer service. Had they not blatantly LIED about their hours, I wouldn't have wasted 30 minutes inconveniently driving there. If you value honestly and good customer service, I highly recommend checking out a different coffee shop. read more
