This unassuming gas station has a small take out only Mexican restaurant inside. While they have a small menu, it covers the gamut of what you'd expect. Tacos, burritos and the like. But as it was morning, and I hadn't yet woken all the way up, I needed breakfast burrito and some spicy salsa. And the one I got was amazing! Just so happens they have a hot stand with some recently made selections, which normally I'm sketch on, but this place? They were so enthusiastic about the food they sell, I had to give the chorizo burrito in the hot case a try. The guy behind the counter was all smiles as he talked about how fresh it was, and gave me a couple spicy salsas. Took it home, unwrapped, and saw this thing was tightly wound and packed, not falling apart. Score! It was double wrapped in both foil and paper, so it held its moisture and heat in. Score! I take a bite - delicious! Chorizo, eggs, taters, peppers, great stuff. The salsa was really good too. Alternating between the green and red kept it interesting, and by the end of it I was completely convinced this place doesn't make "gas station" food. They just make good food, period. If I ordered this at a "restaurant" and they put this burrito in front of me, I'd be happy, straight up no lie. And for $7, not a bad deal either, for what you get. That's exactly what I found when I hit up Howard's Chevron for a routine smog check recently. See each year I try my hardest to get my car registered on time, but inevitably, something always goes wrong and I miss my deadline. So I hit up Yelp to try and find a smog station that could take me after 5PM, and I came across Howard's Chevron. But I really have Richard, at Half/Price Auto Repair, to thank for the referral. It's so nice to see #Coopetition in action! So anyway, Howard's stops doing smogs after 5:30 (apparently they need a Level 3 Trained Smog Tech available, and he goes home), so I wasn't able to get my smog in before my registration expired, but I decided to go in the next morning and hustle it over to the DMV, hence the experience at 7AM. Well, I thought the DMV opened at 7:30, but my memory ain't what it used to be, and they actually open at 8AM, so I ended up sitting in my car, entering the info on my phone, and sadly paying the $6 late fee YET AGAIN. Moral of the story is no amount of trying can get you out of any fees at the DMV, so just do yourself the favor and get your shit done on time. BUT, if you are a last minute person like me, and you can make it there by 5:30, Howard's Chevron will save your butt and $6, all with a big ol' smile!

But they put in a machine to make the coffee on demand, you can hear a grinding the coffee beans, you would figure that this was a great idea, however the coffee is extremely strong and bitter no matter what type you put. I want to make sure, even though there's quite a few vagrant people hanging around outside, none of them spoke to me or approached me or anything. So I definitely felt safe here. I also saw a really nice hot snack bar, that had chickens and a number of other types of food.
