    Tri tip
    Mike J.

I've bought a few tri tips from this Winco that are supposed to be trimmed. In the photo you will see it is not trimmed. This is not a brisket so I remove the fat cap they are leaving on, but the kicker is, the packaging says trimmed, and the fat side is down so you can't see it. Other grocery stores say trimmed, and they're actually trimmed. This is probably another 3/4 to a pound of fat included in the trimmed price.

We got another chance to shop at WinCo Foods and this time around it was less crowded since it was a week day. The store is massive and they carry a huge variety of inventory; the amount of items you can still buy in bulk is surprising. The store not only has a small food counter in the front of the store by the cashier plus it has a good-size deli in one corner of the store and a bakery on the other side. The store has a huge selection of fresh and frozen meats and seafood plus a humongous selection of pre-packaged frozen food items as well as canned goods, and everything in between. The employees are mostly helpful and nice, the prices are pretty average, the store is clean and well-organized; this is a really nice store.

Okay Okay, I am starting to get my produce from this brand. But only when I am with my wife, as I do not have an ATM card, lol. Nor do I have cash, lol. Quality/Quantity - When in the Bay Area, I get my produce from Food Max or Cardenas; both brands I believe are NOT in Reno. Your produce here seems even fresher and plenty in stock. Also good and decent low prices. Neat and organized also. Thank you. Atmosphere - See above. I also sometimes get some beer from here. Plenty of mall parking. Open 24 hours, 7 days a week. Departments at this location - Grocery, bulk food, deli, bakery, etc. Service - Self service. Price - Inexpensive. But inconvenient since I do not have cash or an ATM card. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since 1967 and your 139 employee owned locations. 1985 - After the passing of the founder, all the employees chipped in to buy a controlling interest in the company through the newly created Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP).

Love winco deli. Love that they carry zero sugar Mike's hard lemonades. Don't love that I saw a rat run across the aisle.

Why is this store so dirty? The floors were filthy. I like Winco but today was a turnoff.

I think I need to update my review from 14 years ago!!!!…read more I stand by my original post: How wonderful to have a real grocery store that specializes in local and organic products. Much of the produce is locally grown, or locally adjacent (AKA California) OK, Bananas do not grow in the Great Basin. The origin of the produce is identified. They work with local farmers, bakeries, and other local businesses for the food and non-food items. They no longer have the upstairs restaurant but they do have a kitchen and make ready to go items. I love picking up a fresh salad (some with meat some purely vegan/vegetarian) , a yummy very generously filled wrap, house made cookies and other delectable treats. They have a large selection of locally produced meats. Lots of organic canned goods, dairy and non-dairy items . . . the list goes on. The staff are always very friendly and helpful. Memberships are available (20$/year) with a once a month 10% off of your total purchase. You do NOT need a membership to shop here. It's small and a bit cramped but there is a lot of good stuff there. It's clean and friendly and completely locally owned.

So when lunch break came around I knew exactly where I was headed, Great Basin Co-op! I enjoyed a nice brisk walk in an autumn filled day. When I entered the store I was warming greeted by staff and by an organic clean smell. I really wanted their fresh spring rolls but they did not have those that day so I chose fresh rolled salmon made with wild caught salmon. It did not disappoint! Will I be back? Absolutely! So much fresh and organic choices! They also have plenty of seating indoor or outdoor. Thanks Great Basin Co-op!

I found myself out and about with just my son and and we both thought a char grilled kebab sounded like a fun dinner experiment. We popped in and found who were guessing is the owner's child at the register and placed our order for their signature kebab made from ground chicken and Afghani spices. The plate came with sumac spiked basmati rice, two pieces of the chicken kebab and a small green salad plus a green hot sauce. The kebab was tender and juicy with a great flavor profile and a nice bit of charcoal flavor. We thought the rice was actually exceptional light and fluffy with a hint of that citrus sea tang from the sumac, in a buttery finish, made this a nice light side to the kebab. The salad was fresh and crunchy with cucumber, lettuce, and bell peppers and that green hot sauce was really great and we used it as a dressing because the salad did not come with one. For $16 I just felt like the value was a bit often the plate needed at least one more piece of the kebab because when finished with a small tiny salad and the kebab, we were left with a mountain of rice and that is south wasteful. I just wish the plates here were a bit more valued oriented and I guess it will take more people eating here to kind of drive that up. Highly recommend giving it a try plus the market has some really fun fines too. Share your review and let me know what you think.
