I've been coming to this WINCO since I moved to Reno over 10 years ago. I went again yesterday knowing they would have the items I needed in stock. Not only was I able to find what I needed but also a few I didn't need but wanted. What really surprised me was the renovation going on. New freezers and refrigerators are being installed. The layout of some of the isles is being improved and the store feels more open and easier to navigate. I look forward to seeing it all completed. read more

Usually a good experience, however I feel I need to express this unfortunate instance: A bit later, I went shopping for some holiday ingredients. Most of the checkout lanes were blocked off, a long with the bread area. I walked by the barricade so I could snag some potato bread, and asked they guys who were cleaning the floor if they could grab it....they acknowledged and brushed me off. I grabbed it myself, and frustrated flipped them off. (My freedom) Alma approached me and said I was disrespectful and refused me service. What!? Anyway I started to defend myself, and was met with complete disrespect. Some may say I deserve it for being frustrated, but I still have rights...wonder where those went? I actually have a whole video recording of this completely disrespectful situation, but I'm not sure how to edit it to fit this upload. I used to buy model dairy milk at winco reno northtowne until they started spoiling it. So I switched to organic valley carton with a 30+ day expiration. Now they started spoiling that milk too (as I'm sick to my stomach right now -I wish I could sue them) therefor I will never shop there again if they're willing to make people sick just so (they think) they can sell their inferior products !!! read more

I've bought a few tri tips from this Winco that are supposed to be trimmed. In the photo you will see it is not trimmed. This is not a brisket so I remove the fat cap they are leaving on, but the kicker is, the packaging says trimmed, and the fat side is down so you can't see it. Other grocery stores say trimmed, and they're actually trimmed. This is probably another 3/4 to a pound of fat included in the trimmed price. read more

We got another chance to shop at WinCo Foods and this time around it was less crowded since it was a week day. The store is massive and they carry a huge variety of inventory; the amount of items you can still buy in bulk is surprising. The store not only has a small food counter in the front of the store by the cashier plus it has a good-size deli in one corner of the store and a bakery on the other side. The store has a huge selection of fresh and frozen meats and seafood plus a humongous selection of pre-packaged frozen food items as well as canned goods, and everything in between. The employees are mostly helpful and nice, the prices are pretty average, the store is clean and well-organized; this is a really nice store. read more

Okay Okay, I am starting to get my produce from this brand. But only when I am with my wife, as I do not have an ATM card, lol. Nor do I have cash, lol. Quality/Quantity - When in the Bay Area, I get my produce from Food Max or Cardenas; both brands I believe are NOT in Reno. Your produce here seems even fresher and plenty in stock. Also good and decent low prices. Neat and organized also. Thank you. Atmosphere - See above. I also sometimes get some beer from here. Plenty of mall parking. Open 24 hours, 7 days a week. Departments at this location - Grocery, bulk food, deli, bakery, etc. Service - Self service. Price - Inexpensive. But inconvenient since I do not have cash or an ATM card. I been shopping here for some time now along with another store closer to home. I like the produce section I just wish some of it was from our country and not Mexico. I understand in winter we can not grow many of the items they can but I find it during other times of the year also. Also the meat selection is poor. Not a lot of variety and many times the meat is of lower quality (tough, fatty). The ground beef is the worst, it is all fat. I like lean meat and it is hard to find here. I do like the prices on some of the products but some have really gone up. The best buy for me here is the bran flake cereal because it is real bran. It is so much better than the store brand at Smith's. In the cheese section, they only have the large chunks to buy, not the 8 oz. I like a smaller amount for cheese and crackers. If you shop here later in the day, expect lines. But over-all it is a nice clean store that they are remodeling. read more

So I go in .. pick up a few items . Then I decide to buy a few extra individual bottles of sparkling water (6) near the registers . I go to the self check out .. which are all open as no one is there. I'm then approached by an older lady ( Checkout Nazi ) who says this is for only 15 item or less .. I look in my cart and say well it's very close . ( about 15 items) I actually wasn't sure how many items I had .. I didn't think to count ... was she eyeing my cart and counting? Well now she counts my items .. I actually had 19 items and tells me I can't use the self checkout and have to go to the register. Ok ? But she was extremely rude .. authoritarian behavior. Apparently delighted she caught me .. lol. And there wasn't anyone there in line or checking out .. all the self checkouts were completely open ! read more

I shop at WinCo regularly and I love the Northtowne location. Their prices are usually lower than other grocery chains and that's why I keep coming back. The store is clean and well stocked. I do not mind waiting in line when this store is busy. I have met some nice people waiting in line with me. They understand how popular and busy our WinCo can get at times. read more

Don't go in at night if you are handicap and have a hard time moving around. They block the main walk ways all around the store and if you ask them for help they tell you to go F,,, yourself and to get out of the store. I asked him for his name but, got the response ( F,,, you ) with some mucking response about my name. I talk with the store manager and that didn't seem to go anywher. I love to shop at this Winco! The fruit and produce is always fresh and plentiful. Having so many choices is very important to us. The scones in the bakery are so good and I really like their prices. The employees are always friendly and willing to help if I need assistance. I try to always tell them how much I love their store when I'm there. We drive from NW Reno and find it is well worth it. If I could put a negative 5 stars I would. Karen one of the cashiers working self check out was absolutely rude. Kicking me out of the line and her attitude had other customers questioning her problem. I had 17 items to pay with a card, my partner had cash so I unloaded his items at the cash side. There was one other customer that turned around and asked her is it really that big of a deal?! All other lanes were long and people had full carts. Will not be returning and will drive an additional 35 mins on top of my hour and a half drive to avoid that type of customer service. And Kevin I spoke to was kind, saying he'd bring up this issue with management. Sounds like this isn't her first time. read more

Absolutely horrible customer service. All the former good employees who were friendly and knowledgeable are gone and after 25 years of swearing by this location, I will never be back. Literally the worst experience Ive had grocery shopping in the past 25 years in South Reno. Who is managing this place now? They are failing miserably! Looked at other reviews, thought I should clarify, the Deli is THE WORST with some of the most incompetent and apathetic deli workers I have had the misfortune of interacting with second only to the express lane as the young man who was overseeing the area is rude and inexperienced in proper customer service etiquette and rather full of himself. I did not purchase the Honey Turkey, which should not have been sold anyway upon further inspection so I hope it was disposed of. The only good employee I was thankful to have encountered was the sweet checkout lady I had after being redirected by the terrible self check out staff. After 25 years, congratulations, I will now be shopping only at Smiths or Safeway in South Reno for my weekly groceries since everything is so overpriced anyway, Id much rather have a pleasant experience with more pleasant people. You need more checkers, especially on weekends. The lines were so long today. I had 17 items and thought 2 more than 15, not bad to go through the self serve lane. The checker??? told me I had too many. Technically, yes, but it would have taken a total of 30 seconds to check them. There wasn't anyone behind me. I've seen other people with way more than 15 go through the line. Other times a different checker was so rude to an elderly gentleman who wasn't understanding why something wasn't ringing up. He was talking in a very loud voice telling him what he was doing wrong. (Just because he was elderly,doesn't mean he is hard of hearing. A third worker who was doing inventory on her little machine walked right in front of me twice, where I had to stop abruptly. I have a bad knee and stopping that fast makes my knee hurt more. She didn't even say excuse me. I understand that they have a job to do, but watch where you are going. When I asked her to watch where she was going, or at least walk behind a person. She gave me the rudest look and went and complained to another checker and they both were looking at me rudely. Needless to say, I won't be buying groceries from here anymore. We don't have a WinCo where I am from, so this was an experience. They have so much variety and great prices. It's a big box grocery store without the membership. Lots of item availability in bulk. I was impressed with the prices albeit a simplistic store. The service was fine. My only issue was they do not take credit cards so bring cash or an ATM card. read more

On the average this store has good stock and some really good deals. Mainly on meat that's what my family and I mainly shop for. Staff has its up and downs but on average at least pleasant. We use the deli area 3 to 4 times a week and the team back there normally very nice and friendly just make sure you get there before they are getting ready to close. Only thing I think they could work on is more checkouts open but I know that's a thing everywhere. Oh. The bakery is super good. Buy their bread over the big box brand. Always clean with plenty of food choices to choose from. The walk in aisle has top bargains. Great meat selection, bulk spices, candy, pasta, grains, cereals, coffee, etc. you can still buy the box versions but you save the most taking the time to buy bulk. I love Winco, but whoever changed the pizza to the premade garbage that it is now should be fired!! My family got a combo pizza and a pepperoni pizza, on Oct 2 , my kids and their friends hated it, they are only $8.98 but when no one likes the taste and you put hardly any toppings on the pizza it's not worth it. We got multiple pizzas for our work meeting and it was one of the first times ever no one ate it, everyone said it tasted horrible and didn't believe it was from Winco. We have gotten Winco pizza for our meetings for years. The combo literally had 8 to 10 pieces of sausage, probably six or seven pieces of green peppers and onions. The pizzas barely had sauce and tasted worse than a tony's pizza that you would get from the freezer section. Please go back to the way you had it. It was awesome! I used to shop for food while waiting for the pizza probably 3 to 4 times a month now I won't so you're not just losing Pizza sales. Well, I went here yesterday and the items I.Walmart, but today I went in for Non Alcoholic Beer, Heineken 00, and Corona. They were both more expensive than Walmart, and I got taxed on it. I have bought non alcoholic beer at Lee's, Ben's, and Walmart and haven't been taxed. When I asked the clerk why I got taxed, he said because of the alcohol. I told him it's non alcoholic. Then he was rude and told me I'd get taxed on it everywhere I bought it. I told him not true and I have bought it at many places and not been taxed and I won't be back. The clerk said, and I quote, "Fine by me." Ugh! No customer service at all. I definitely won't be back now. Also, a few other things I wanted to buy were more expensive than Walmart. read more

Had the MOST RIDICULOUS experience at the Winco in the South of Reno. I accidently bought two macaroni salads for a party. I wanted one potato, and one macaroni. I brought back one of the macaroni salads UNOPENED AND WITH A RECEIPT...and they REFUSED my return by stating management would yell at them. Are you KIDDING ME????? IT IS A PACKAGE OF MACARONI SALAD...WITH A RECEIPT!!!! I have shopped WEEKLY there for YEARS AND HAVE SPENT THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS, AND THEY REFUSED TO RETURN A MACARONI SALAD WORTH $5.00!!!!! I even brought up their own RETURN POLICY...and she still refused. Then behaved as if she wanted to fight me. I've never seen anything so ridiculous IN MY LIFETIME! WinCo is the best. They only accept forms of EBT or debit card, keep that in mind if you want to check them out. They have a HUGE selection of good food. Their vegetable prices are the best. I was able to make seventeen meals preps with $62 worth of groceries. They have an amazing price on the fresh salmon and the tofu. They do have a bulk section as well! Last time I was there they were selling garbanzo beans for 60cents. The place is huge so expect to be there for a while if you want to get to see most of the store. My husband bought some almonds in the bin. When we checked out realized that for 2 pounds it costs $22.00. Questioned cashier she said that's the correct price and sent me to the Customer Service counter for a return. The lady in the customer service desk was already disgusted and had a scowl on her face loving her job. I told her that my husband bagged the almonds not realizing the price per pound. She immediately responded with this will just be thrown away. I apologized and said unfortunately, it's too pricey for me to buy. She called the Manager and she told him that I didn't pay attention and bought the almonds and didn't want it now. The manager could only agree to give us a 7 DAY CREDIT for this amount. REALLY! When the customer service lady was finished and gave me my credit voucher I told her that it wasn't professional for her to assume that I didn't pay attention and that she needs to take customer service training classes. From now on I will only go to Winco if I truly need and will not recommend this store to anyone who asks me about it. The staff is just unfriendly and seem to not enjoy what they are doing to have that kind of attitude. You lost my business. read more

Thought this would be another hum-drum supermarket, but no!! Its like a bulk budget market with quality products. Kind of if Sprouts and Walmart had a kid! So came in for the Deli and prepared foods and were blown away at the variety of sandwiches, sushi and cheese snacks. Actually, even more blown away by the prices. Not good for me Because of health and pain issues, I need to eat gluten-free, dairy free, sugar free, no vegetable oils or MSG, and organic. If you're a Winco shopper, you know that's there's not much in Winco that I can eat. The employees are very nice. The bathrooms are meh - not filthy but not super clean either. I miss shopping here. The store is clean and well stocked. You really can't beat the prices and I liked that I got a nice working shopping cart! I really was on a mission today. I only have a few weeks to find an award winning Christmas bake off winner. The hubby's work has a competition and I'm determined to place!! So, I picked out two recipes and just needed the items. I ended up getting items to make a broccoli salad too. Since the romaine incident and shortage, my cravings for salads will have to be replaced with other types of salads. I also got bags of frozen French fries, onion rings, and sweet potato fries to try out the new air fryer I picked up at Costco. I got 5 bags of groceries for $50 bucks!!
