was in the mood for brunch-y food on a friday around noon. yelp led me here, pretty close to my…read morehouse. i ordered an americano coffee ($4.25) free refills and french toast ($13). the coffee was good but i am not a coffee connoisseur. i ordered mine with creamer (they did not ask how much or what kind) and it was "light" enough for me. creamers are not out, but sweeteners, water, glasses, etc are located down the side at the right of the cashier. the brioche french toast was very good. 2 large pieces with a tart berry compote that with the vanilla whipped cream & maple syrup was a good balance. the place has 2 rooms, single high tops at a back bar, larger tables for groups, 2 tops, and chairs. like most "coffee shops" there were lots of people camping out with their laptops. quite a few people who were there when i arrived were still there when i left. so seating can be challenging at peak times. i did note "reserved" on a table there celebrating a baby shower. you order at the counter and are given a "puck" that rings when your order is up. coffee came out fast followed shortly by my french toast. which was great as they were pretty busy. ask for coffee refills with cashier. bus your own tables at same area you get water & sweeteners; there are tubs underneath. i asked which beverages had free refills and like most coffee spots, it was just the drip coffee. staff was friendly and helpful.

As you survey the area, you spot an endless array of bubbling fountains, as far as the eye can see...a nirvana...nay, a Teavana. No, strike that. I must be thinking of a different tea place that no longer exists. Where was I? Oh yes, the infinite fountains of flavor; from the sweetened to unsweetened, the flavor combinations are endless. I have heard rumors that there are 502,789,463,081,222 flavor combos that you can try. I have visited multiple locations around the greater San Antonio area in the year that I have lived here, and I have tried approximately 2 flavor combinations. So, I guess I have my work cut out for me. There are plenty of sizes to choose from, 5 to be exact. 24oz, 32oz, 40oz, 44oz (foam cup), and a 51oz. You can also get gallon sizes as well. Mini, Half, and full Gallon. Also, they have some of the most luxe ice around. Myself, I prefer no ice in my drinks. (I like to get my money's worth) You can also add fresh fruit mix-ins: lemon, lime, and/or orange slices, as well as cherries. One thing that I would love to be able to see is, maybe set out some flavored creamers or syrups, as to enhance the experience, by being able to customize your own drinks. Probably too much of an ask. But, the suggestion has at least been made. Also, just in case you need your coffee fix, they got you. As well as hot chocolate, hot tea, snacks, lip balm, and they even have bulk water and ice available for purchase, not to mention plenty of branded merch. Overall, this a definitely a great place to come and quench your thirst. In my experience, the staff has always been friendly, as they greet you when you come in, and usually thank you for coming in and invite you back. Every location that I have been to has been spotless and well organized. Thank goodness I never have to travel too far to have my beverage needs met.

They have a red retro fridge in the trailer and their merch gives high school varsity vibes. They sell shirts, sweaters, stickers, etc, and of course, their coffee and matcha. Most trailers and trucks will serve your drink in a to-go cup but when I ordered my cortado they offered to serve it in a ceramic cup! How cool is that? It made my experience much more enjoyable, because cortados tend to pick up that paper cup flavor. Their espresso-based drinks are as delicious as I remember, and I also ordered an iced Pooh Bear. It's just as tasty iced as it is hot. I can't wait for Calico Coffee to thrive in their new location. If this is around your stomping grounds, do yourself a favor and come visit.
