We moved to Scottsdale about six or seven years ago. My wife did a ton of research before picking a…read moredentist and she chose S&L with Dr. David Ngo. I went with a different place at first because it was closer to where we were living. Well, that turned out to be a mistake. I ended up having a bad experience there and finally switched to S&L. Dr. Ngo and his team fixed everything the other dentist had messed up. Right away I knew my wife had been right all along. I've been going to S&L for four years now and they really are the best dental office I've ever been to. Dr. Ngo has removed all my old metal fillings and replaced them with modern ones, plus he's done a couple of crowns for me. Everything looks and feels great. My wife has also been extremely happy with all the work he's done for her too. I'm almost 55 and I've seen a bunch of top-rated, highly recommended dentists over the years, both here in the US and a couple in Mexico. Nothing else comes close. One thing I have to mention is how good Dr. Ngo is with people who hate dental visits or get nervous about pain. His work is excellent, but it's the way he takes care of you that makes the biggest difference. For example, the way he does Novocaine shots is unbelievable. You barely feel it at all. Every dentist out there should learn his technique. With all that said, I do think the front office experience could be better. If the customer service up front matched Dr. David's clearly caring vibe, it would be 100% perfect. If you're looking for a truly professional dentist who gives five-star care and service, this is the place. Dr. David Ngo at S&L is the only one I would recommend without any hesitation.

I've been seeing Dr. Ngo since 2018. On my first visit he spent extensive time examining my teeth…read moreand mouth and explaining everything thoroughly. He is knowledgeable and professional and always takes time to check in, even during routine cleanings. I usually don't wait more than 5 minutes for my appointments. There have been times where I needed immediate dental care and they are able to work with you to fit you in as quickly as possible. I have recommended him to many people throughout the last 8 years! At a previous dental office in Miami I had a terrible experience that started with a routine cleaning that turned into a root canal 6 hours later and left me with significant anxiety with all things dental related. I found out a few years later after moving to Arizona that the root canal was not performed correctly and I had to get it re-done. Dr. Ngo is incredible at calming nerves and making you feel safe when in uncomfortable situations, especially with anxiety. He talks through every step in advance and during the procedures, so that there are no surprises. He takes extra time when numbing the mouth so that the pain is tolerable and at times barely noticeable. I really appreciate this and feel like it's rare to find. I highly recommend Dr. Ngo and S&L Dental for all your dental needs.

Dr Willman is no longer with the practice. Huge, enormous, gigantic loss for Pima Dental. About four months ago, I returned because I needed to molars extracted. Let me note that after the extractions I had fully intended beginning work on all my lower teeth, fully expecting to make another substantial investment. This practice is not inexpensive... in my view it is extremely overpriced (especially after I share what happened below). I was prepared to pay another substantial amount to complete my treatment. I did miss one appointment due to a personal emergency. I attempted to call but was unable to get through, and at the time my focus understandably had to be on the emergency. At my next scheduled appointment, I drove over 45 minutes from north Phoenix. I arrived and had X-rays done, and then met with a dentist who informed me that two teeth would need to be extracted by an oral surgeon and that the procedure could not be done there. While the dentist was courteous, the appointment ultimately resulted in a two-hour round trip simply to be referred elsewhere. I wish this had been communicated to me beforehand. As I was leaving, I was stunned when I was told not to leave and was informed that I owed a $50 missed-appointment fee. Mandy, the office manager, whom I had worked with before made it be known that I needed to pay $50. What disappointed me most was not the amount itself, but the complete lack of empathy or discretion--especially toward a long-standing patient who had already invested heavily in the practice and was prepared to invest significantly more. I understand that offices have cancellation policies. However, patient relationships should involve more than strict enforcement of fees. In my experience, this practice places profits above patient goodwill and patient satisfaction. Between the high costs of treatment and the rigid handling of this situation, it left me feeling that policies mattered more than people. As a business owner myself, I believe long-term trust, empathy, and relationships are what sustain a practice--not nickel-and-diming loyal patients. Unfortunately, this experience has led me to seek care elsewhere for the remainder of my treatment, and I will not be recommending this office moving forward ever again! I hope this feedback is taken constructively. My initial experience here was excellent, attributed primarily to Dr Willman, which makes this outcome all the more disappointing.

Biltmore Commons has asked me to leave a review. I cannot in good faith say anything nice about…read morethis place. I am new to the area and was recommended to this practice. My old practice was a single dentist, a few dental assistants and a receptionist. You spend your entire visit with the dentist and he provides you an honest summary of your visit. The total visit is under a half hour. Biltmore Commons has 6 Dentists and at least that many dental hygienist and more dental assistants and receptionists. You spend the majority of your visit with your hygienist and about 2 minutes with the dentist. Because there is so much overhead you get a Spirit Airlines experience where you are constantly getting upsold nonsense. The hygienists are more like used car salesmen than people who clean your teeth. I have been to this place twice and they have tried selling me laser treatment ($100) night guards ($800), Invisilign, a Waterpick ($120), an additional cleaning, and they were going to try to sell me an electric toothbrush if I didn't already have one. The hygienists don't give up the entire visit until you say yes to something. The dentist never says you need any of these things. I never went through with any of these scams. And I will not be going to Biltmore Commons ever again. My first visit was 2 hours (with x-rays) and my second was almost an hour (without x-rays). I have a life and my time is not valued. My recommendation is to find a dentist with less overhead where they can pay for their practice with just regular dental work and not ancillary products.

I write to revise my earlier rating upward…read more My dentist got in touch with me and offered--in a limited way--to address my concerns. But that's not why I'm adjusting the rating. I'm doing so, because my earlier rating was unjust. You see, I've come belatedly to understand that this isn't about Hatcher Dental, nor even about the dental profession in particular. It's not about teeth; it's about choice. My dentist doesn't feel comfortable with x-rays less frequent than 18 months. And I don't feel comfortable with x-rays more often than 2 years. So who wins? Neither. This one goes to the cartel. A cartel is a state (i.e. government) backed monopoly. It's an ostensibly private association that nonetheless operates with the force of law. My dentist should have every right to decide the terms under which he renders his services and to refuse to offer (what he considers to be) substandard care. And who could object to a set of guidelines that codify the best practices of the profession? Isn't ADA membership an assurance of quality care? Well let's put it this way: A dentist can adhere to the "guidelines" or they can have their license yanked. That's what the helpful folks at the Hatcher desk were trying to say. I suppose they could have been more honest about it. Unlicensed dentistry is not grounds for a lawsuit; it's grounds for an arrest. So this isn't about dentistry. Even barbers are licensed and for the same reason. A free market in dentistry would give clients the same freedom to choose their dentists as dentists have to choose their clients. And we can't very well have that, now can we? So cartels are put into place to restrict entry into professions with the object of holding competition at bay so as to keep fees from falling. The result is "guidelines." Informed consent? I don't think so. I don't think you can get around "guidelines" by signing a waiver. If that were possible, then terminal cancer patients could sign and gain access to experimental treatments. But my dentist didn't put this lousy system in place, and doesn't deserve the blame for it. So my rating was unjust. Of course, then my earlier full-star rating was similarly unjust. For how can I, or anyone, express complete satisfaction in a circumstance where coercion is employed to deny my choice?

I called…read moreand asked why the delay, they told me it was my insurance's fault and that they filed a claim in 2023... I can see (and verified with my insurance) that they just filed the claim now... in 2025. It seems I'm not the only person with this experience from other reviews. The woman on the phone was patient and helpful... assuming this is not her fault, but they are definitely not an organized operation. Quality of care - I did not go back because the hygienist seemed as though I was his first ever patient and repeatedly poked me. The dentist, after seeing me for the first time, for 5 minutes, told me I needed two crowns and quoted over $2k (this figure may be wrong - this was two years ago). This also seemed like a red flag to me so I did not return. I've since been to another dentist that does not agree with this assessment. Highly suggest getting a second opinion if quoted for a pricey service, but I'd just pass on this dentist altogether.
