I'm visiting from the Seattle area, and what started as a quick stop turned into one of my favorite memories from this trip. The man named Rocky asked where I was visiting from, and when I told him Tacoma, he smiled and said, "I'm from Tacoma too!" Such a small world! We ended up chatting for a while, he shared some great local restaurant recommendations, and even surprised me with some complimentary ice cream. The ice cream was so good I completely forgot to take a picture until all that was left was the empty cup. Great ice cream is easy to find. Genuine kindness isn't. If you're anywhere near Hillside Water & Ice Cream, stop in. You'll get amazing treats, friendly conversation, and the kind of hometown hospitality that makes a place memorable. The employee pretended not to speak Spanish (despite me hearing her speak it with the staff). When I saw that she was preparing the product incorrectly, I told her it was not what I had ordered. Instead of offering a solution or an apology, the staff reacted with a mocking, arrogant, and defiant attitude. They even called the owner because, according to them, there was nothing they could do, even though the cameras could have verified what was happening. The issue is not the money, but the unwillingness to properly serve customers, especially Spanish-speaking customers. If you don't like your job, then you shouldn't work there, and the owner shouldn't have employees like that.
