Let's talk…read moreabout a beautiful historic intimate location in the heart of downtown Savannah with the charm and sophisticated architecture that an elegant event would bring. The Room at Common is top notch and believe me there is absolutely nothing common here. Let's give a moment of respect to the Executive Head Chef Shawn and his entire accompanying staff whose impeccable attention to detail in every dish that exited his kitchen demonstrated the depth and ability of everyone who had a hand in slicing, cutting, baking, and curating the most delectable dishes I have found in quite a while. You need an outlandish charcuterie board to get you in the mood to begin the eating festival. The sliders had the perfect texture and the bread was tenderly placed with a delicate sauce. The tomato basil soup in a bread bowl was like heaven. The fried green tomatoes were also a favorite. The short ribs with the smothered collard greens and the cornbread were on an another planet of goodness. You want fresh local oysters on the half shelf pulled from the water only hours ago, well they got you right in house with them lying on ice and a professional shucker right there to serve you with a beautiful smile. Did I mention the dessert bar? Freshly baked cookies, macaroons, mini red velvet cake shooters, lemon puff pastries, mini cheesecakes, and other treats that would leave the sweetest sweet tooth, toothless. The food was Southern, but wound up a notch. It was not boring. It was not common. If you're in Savannah for a work conference or need a place to meet to discuss business with your team, host a holiday party, or have a small wedding reception, do not skip The Room at Common. One thing I appreciate is how attentive the staff is to each guest. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming. You feel as if you're one of the family coming to visit. The cocktails are delicious. The wine selection is fantastic and carefully crafted with an experienced sommelier in house. I'm telling you that you will kick yourself if you don't have you people call Leah Ralph to book your event. The food and drinks will make your folks love you forever!

We were looking for a small, intimate, and beautiful space to host our micro-wedding celebration, and after reaching out to many places in downtown Savannah, The Room at Common stood out immediately. When we did our site visit, it was exactly what we had envisioned and more. The space is beautifully decorated inside a historic Savannah building and offers thoughtful features like a Frame TV for slides or welcome messages, private restrooms, a private bar, and the ability to play your own music (which is rare for a small venue and comes without extra charges). Leah was wonderful to work with throughout the entire process. She responded to our initial inquiry almost immediately, something that really stood out since many other venues took days or even weeks to reply. From the first email to the site visit and all the communication leading up to the event, she was incredibly helpful and reassuring. As someone who works in hospitality and tends to be a bit of a "controller," it meant a lot to feel confident that everything was in good hands. On the day of our celebration, everything was beyond what we imagined. The space looked beautiful, and we were greeted so warmly. Sammy, our server, was attentive and fun, and the bartender was fantastic as well. And the food... absolutely incredible. Every dish exceeded expectations. Our guests are still talking about it weeks later. The oysters were incredibly fresh, the steak was outstanding, and the fried cornbread, fish dip, and cheesecake were unforgettable. A huge thank you to the Executive Chef (who even came out to greet us) and the entire kitchen team. Every member of the team made us feel cared for and ensured we had everything we needed. They truly embody the meaning of Southern hospitality. Thank you all for making our day so special. My husband and I already say that if we ever renew our vows or host another celebration, we'll absolutely be coming back.

Rhett was hands down one of the best servers we've ever had. He was incredibly personable and attentive, and genuinely seemed to care that we had a great experience. The food was absolutely delicious, and every dish we ordered was spot on. It's rare to find a place where the drinks, food, and service are all equally outstanding, but this place nailed it. We left saying this was the best meal we had in Savannah, and that's not something we say lightly. We can't wait to come back the next time we're in town!

We sat at the bar, ordered a drink and enjoyed so many plates! Warm wood finishes, exposed bricks, and more Edison bulbs than you can count. All of these details made our experience cozy and relaxed. We treated the Happy Hour menu as if was a tapas menu, sampling nearly all the items available. The staff was so friendly, attentive, and helpful as we made our selections. Baby Back Ribs - Tender! Charred Wings - Spot on! Crispy Street Corn Cannoli - Light & Bright! Red Curry Rockefeller - Such a fun twist! Single Smash Burger - Top-tier simplicity! I am looking forward to going back to try their dinner menu!

The most stressful part of the wedding planning process was dealing with this non responsive coordinator that did not follow through on the bulk of things promised upon contract. Items such as indoor restrooms for guests, a grooms room separate from the brides facility, foyer and cabana we were to use for rain backup were all rescinded six weeks before the wedding! Rental items and decor was also removed. Day of coordination was a disaster and her lack of experience was quite evident.

The location along the Wilmington River waterfront is unparalleled with views of passing yachts, the marshes and awe-inspiring sunsets. Is it bright and shiny and new? No, but you cannot duplicate the location or historic structure in an average building. The property originally constructed as the Olgelthorpe Hotel was designed by the same architects of The Breakers, Palm Beach and the Waldorf-Astoria & Pierre Hotel in NYC among other famous structures. The history and anecdotes of the venue are fascinating and I am glad to see some improvements being made that maintain its historical charm. What a great property for photos too! As a person with fond memories of growing up in an old Victorian home and who really appreciates historic architecture of the by-gone era, this checks all the boxes for me.
