Daniel really knows what he's doing, he's kind and very knowledgeable. I don't typically go out to grab coffee in the city because of how inconsistent places tend to be- but he's got me looking forward to coming in for a coffee. The espresso is never bitter, the milk is always creamy and smooth, and the location is clean. The whole cafe has a feeling of community- when I stay in to sip and read the people coming in and out strike up conversations and are very friendly with each other. Its a nice change of pace. While I only come in Wednesdays, I have a feeling that the staff all around at this location is friendly and has fostered this space for the community. Today on the first warm day of spring, I stopped in to get an iced horchata latte. I'd had the hot version before, but that barely holds a candle to this!! The barista recommended a rum infusion, which was the perfect accompaniment to such a sweet, spiced latte! When you have your drink, you can sit down on one of the benches along the wall inside the cafe, outside at one of their many yellow tables, or next door, where they have a workspace, which is open to all. "787 Work It" has plenty of tables, comfy chairs, a printer, and outlets to charge up your devices. They have meditation frequencies playing and warm ambient lighting that surprisingly makes it a really great place to set up shop for a few hours. read more

It was my first time here and they could tell-- they took the time to welcome me and my sister in, explaining their origins and the menu to us. I got the rum-infused iced coquito latte, and it was DELICIOUS. Like definitely sweet but simultaneously not overpoweringly so. The coffee was smooth, not bitter at all, and it was just a drink that drank nicely. You know? I'm a slow drink drinker because I like making it last, but this one disappeared because it was just that good. There are other specialty drinks that they sell here including the dulce de leche latte, horchata, and others, and I am absolutely going to go back and try them all at some point. This was on the more expensive side at $8+ so it's a treat yourself kind of latte, but I'd say it's worth a try. The baristas, Sophia and Alexis, were absolutely amazing. We had great conversations while waiting for our coffees and they provided very informed recommendations. After the pretentiousness and lack of available coffee at Maman, we were happy to find this great little neighborhood cafe. The one person making drinks was friendly and fast. There's decent amount of indoor and outdoor searing with *tons* of outlets, free Wifi, public printers(!), phone charging stations(!!), and generally good vibes to be found here. You get the coffee from the shop downstairs on the right side then choose from either the cozy indoor benches in front of the counter, some heated and laptop-friendly seating outside, or the spacious and quiet workspace to the left of the actual shop. I got a horchata latte, which was pleasant and not too sweet, while my partner got the lemon ginger tea. Heard lots of great things about this place and glad I finally checked it out. The place is on the pricier side (maybe like 6-7 dollars for your drink) and if you want beans here they'll cost you a whopping 28 dollars for a regular sized bag but this place does stand out and I will be returning. COQUITO LATTE Modeled after the puerto rican holiday drink Coquito, which utilizes both evaporated and condensed milk as well as coconut (coquito means little coconut) turned into a latte. Pretty sweet, but not saccharine, and great to get iced or hot. My favorite of their lattes so far. DECAF HORCHATA LATTE I think it was the decaf because I didn't love this as the coffee flavor didn't blend super well and it was giving stronger burnt coffee notes that I'm used to. Horchata was subtle and just fine. MAZAPAN LATTE (HOT) I got this hot, maybe the experience would be different iced since you'll be drinking from a straw, but as I sipped on this almondy floral drink (which itself is on the sweeter side, but tasty) you get bits of chopped up nuts in there which I normally would love but the contrast in texture wasn't my favorite experience since they're chopped up so fine and you have this like wet, crunchy, grainy substance that you kind of have to chew but not for too long before swallowing and so I'm not sure that it adds more than it takes away. I stopped in for a quick coffee and snack while in the area. This spot has a lot of character and makes do with the crazy scaffolding it currently has. There's plenty of outdoor seating. I perched in the window from the inside. There were only two types of empanadas left at 2 on a Saturday. The chicken was good, and the offered hot sauce was a great addition. I went for the marzipan latte. It had a lot of crushed nuts - are they actually almonds? - so I was a little distracted but appreciated the uniqueness of the offering. One of my go-to's for my coffee fix! The drinks are all super yummy, I like getting the rum-infused cold brew when I need an extra caffeine kick--the rum adds a smoothness and slight sweetness that keeps the cold brew from tasting too acidic for me. Workers are always super friendly, and recognized me after my 3rd visit, even giving a neighbor discount when they found out I lived in UES. Though the store is quite narrow, they have ample seating in their outdoor seating and now their next-door seating addition 2 doors down. Sadly the barista was not friendly. I will assume she was having a rough morning. I let her know it was my first time at the shop and she dismissed me. Regardless of her unfriendly demeanor the coffee shop is a strong recommendation especially for folks who want to work or meet up with a friend. The lattes were yummy not too sweet. 787 on East 80th Street between Second Avenue and Third Avenue is my favorite location of the two locations I have visited. There's more indoor seating at this location and the same bright colored tables and chairs outside. I prefer the outside seating and wearing my mask indoors. It's a busy place and people line up inside and out as you go down the stairs to enter. I visited today to have an empanada. The really nice employee behind the counter was working alone. She didn't have the Spinach Empanada ready but said if I could wait 15 minutes she would prepare one for me. I said definitely as I was looking forward to trying their empanada. That 15 minutes felt like forever! It's on the small side for $4.45 but the taste and texture was quality to me. I'm definitely not a expert regarding empanadas! I would definitely get one again and definitely return to this 787 location to sit outside with a coffee or something to eat.
