Walked in to get take out, as their tables were for the restaurant only. Very expensive, an oat latte was $10 and a slice of princess cake was $18 but the packaging was very cute and they taped the cake so it wouldn't move in transit! We were able to sit at the bar and enjoy. Everything was delicious. The princess cake was unique marzipan cake that I'd never had before, light, fluffy and not as sweet as I had imagined it would be!

Absolutely amazing experience today. My friend and I wanted a great Italian experience and they were able to accommodate us quickly and provide us with great seating, service and food! I am excited to return again and enjoy this experience in the near future! The ambiance was perfect and provided us with a true UES experience!

I have mostly come here for a grab-and-go drink or snack over the years but have also dined in a couple of times, especially for brunch. Their seating area indoors is not huge, but the capacity increases a bit during nice weather in the warmer months as they try to add seating outside as well. The breakfast food here is very enjoyable. Even "simple" pancakes come beautifully adorned with fruit (I even took a photo.) If you are walking around the neighborhood for a day of shopping or museums, stop by this UES classic.

This was our second time dining at San Ambroeus and I continue to be underwhelmed by the food. The ambiance is great but the service was slow and the food was pretty bland and under seasoned. The chicken paillard and cacio e pepe were both mediocre and we didn't get to try dessert because service was so slow and we had to run to catch a show (we let them know about the timing of the show when we sat down). Especially for the price, I find this restaurant to be overrated.

Pros: Yummy Desserts, friendly waiters Cons: 1. We waited 10 minutes at the front without being acknowledged. 2. Hostess was not friendly. 3. Complimentary bread was cold. 4. My drink was bitter. 5. Food was decent. 6.Cookie base of my pastry was made with a hint of cement.

A great spot to pick up desserts from! I especially loved the chocolate cake that was perfectly soft and sweet. They had so many fun desserts on display, would definitely go again to try something new

Wanted a morning drink before a run and ended up here. Great matcha latte. Would recommend this spot.

Quintessential UES vibes. Everytime I go, I must get a soy cappucino and a hazelnut cornetti (perfectly sweet with a hint of orange). It never disappoints. While you wait for your order, you can window shop the stunning pastry case.

Stopped by Sant Ambroeus Madison for a quiet solo breakfast, and it turned into such a delightful start to my day. The space has that classic, refined charm that instantly makes you feel like you're somewhere special -- cozy yet elegant, with an unmistakable European flair. I started with a freshly baked croissant and a pot of English breakfast tea. The croissant was just what you'd hope for -- golden on the outside, flaky and buttery, and so soft inside. It came out warm, which made it all the better. The tea was served beautifully and felt like a little ritual in itself, which I really appreciated. After enjoying a peaceful moment with my tea, I couldn't resist ordering one of their signature desserts -- the Principessa. It's a standout. Light, delicate layers with just the right balance of sweetness and texture. You can tell a lot of care goes into the pastry work here, and it really shows. The staff was kind and professional throughout -- attentive without hovering, and genuinely gracious. Even though it was a busy morning, everything moved at a relaxed pace, and I never felt rushed. This is the kind of place that makes you want to linger a bit longer than you planned. Can't wait to return and try more from the menu -- I already have my eye on the cappuccino and panini next time. Definitely a gem worth revisiting.

Stopped in for a hot chocolate on a cold walk! When we came in, we didn't see a menu- they don't have one hung up or by the counter. We noticed when we left, that there were a few small paper ones by the door. There was plenty of seating for us to have a seat. They seem to have a full coffee bar and lots of yummy looking pastries. The hot chocolate was pretty good - not as sweet as it could've been. It was also a bit pricey - $12+ for two hot chocolates.

I'm super conflicted about Sant Ambroeus. There is a commitment to excellence with its pastry case and coffee, but sitting down for brunch was a bit of a different experience. The food was well prepared but overall lacking in taste. The avocado toast was VERY filling and the chai was phenomenal. But, I can't say it was worth the price (and I recognize the upper east side location drives up the cost). The service was good, but I quickly got lost in the shuffle being seated outside. However, the perk of sitting outside is some epic people watching. But at the end of the day, I'd probably prefer just getting pastry to go and walking along Madison Ave.

nice place to grab coffee/tea and a pastry, they also have a dining menu i'd love to try. i'd recommend asking for the coffee to be extra hot

Such an iconic UES spot! Great for coffee! Food was just ok, but the service and ambiance made up for it!

The bistro itself is very nicely lit. I almost felt like I was in a movie. I had the Turkish eggs and a side of Bourbon glazed bacon. The chili-drizzled poached eggs sat on a bed of yogurt nestled against triangles of thin flatbread. Very hearty and filling for someone who was on their feet all day. The bacon was such a treat. I was afraid they would be soggy from the glaze or a little too sweet but it was the absolute perfect balance of both. My friend tried out the chicken and waffles and I was almost jealous that I hadn't ordered that. After being given a piece to try, I can confidently say that the Belgian waffle had the nicest crispy exterior and a beautifully fluffy inside. The chicken was such a wonderful savory pairing to the not too sweet waffle. The iced coffee was a nice side pairing. The pumpkin spice flavor was the perfect amount of sweet without being overpowering. I will be returning soon!

Think vintage wallpaper, little knick-knacks, and warm lighting. It's got character. I ordered the market salad with mixed greens, honeycrisp apples, goat cheese, candied pecans, and sherry vinaigrette. It was a hearty portion - super fresh and flavorful, and honestly more than I could finish (not a complaint!). I also ordered a Diet Pepsi with grenadine; they don't carry Diet Coke, which I almost docked a point for, but the mix was unexpectedly delicious. Highly recommend it. My date ordered the hanger steak and said it was absolutely amazing. Only hiccup: his first glass of wine he got came out hot... like, microwave-level warm. Fortunately, the server brought a new (cold) one and the rest of the meal was smooth sailing. Service was friendly, the vibe was homey and relaxed, and the food was solid across the board. Would definitely come back, especially for that salad and another round of grenadine magic.

It was our first time eating at a Friedman's location. It had a nice diner feel to it, with a mix of booths and tables. The brunch menu has a variety of breakfast items, salads, sandwiches and burgers, starters, and entrees (fish tacos, grain bowl, fried chicken). I like that several of the items are naturally gluten free, and some can be made gluten free by request. We decided to go with three breakfast items from the brunch menu: I got the shakshuka, my sister got the Nova Benny, and we got the lemon ricotta pancakes to share. All 3 dishes were great. The shashuka came with grilled ciabatta, perfect for dipping into the sunny side eggs and tomato sauce. My sister loved that the poached eggs and smoked salmon of the Nova Benny came on top of a crispy potato latke. The pancakes were fluffy and the lemon ricotta and lemon zest elevated their flavor. Our server was friendly and attentive, and he asked us if we had any allergies when he took our order. He came by several times to check on us and refill water. Sarge's ended up being the perfect alternative, just a quick five-minute walk from our hotel. We arrived around 5:00 pm on a Sunday and were seated right away, which already felt like a win. The meal started with coleslaw and both a half sour and full sour pickle--such a classic deli touch, and a great way to kick things off. I ordered the half sandwich with matzah ball soup, and the portion sizes were no joke. The soup alone could have been a full meal: a huge bowl with an equally massive matzah ball. The broth was warm and soothing, and the matzah ball was incredibly light with a perfect texture. The half pastrami on rye was just as impressive. Even "half" was stacked high with flavorful, tender pastrami. Adding a bit of mustard from the table brought everything together--it was simple, classic, and exactly what I was hoping for. Not only was it one of the more reasonably priced meals of the trip, but it was also genuinely satisfying.
