It's small and there's only one table in the tiny corner of the shop where it's mainly people sitting to quickly drink their coffee or wait for their friends to get coffee. Let me tell you why this coffee shop stands above the rest: 1. They use quality beans. I'm a home barista and use Oslo's beans for my americanos. When I moved to the UES, I was worried finding a new local roaster. I've had bad experiences where the beans are too oily or something is off that messes with my usually grind size/extraction time. No issues with Oslo's beans. 2. They actually know how to make a proper americano. Every coffee shop takes a standard cup, puts in the espresso shot, and then fills hot water to the brim of the cup. This destroys the flavor of the espresso. You end up with hot water that tastes slightly like coffee. Oslo chooses quality over quantity. They don't fill the water up to the brim, so you have a cup with 2/3 of liquid; however, this is a proper americano. You can taste the difference. At other shops, I just get drip coffee because they don't know what they're doing. Oslo knows what they're doing. That's why I come here. read more

Delicious! However, all their locations are out of the way. Not sure why. I always get cold brew here in the cup ($4.25 + tax) as well as the cold brew growler ($22 + tax). Oslo Coffee opens early. It's a good walk from my apartment so I headed out in plenty of time to beat the crowds. The first thing I noticed was the limited outside seating. I saw a steady stream of customers going inside. I took some photos and got in line. Inside the space is very small. The space where seating should be is being used for storage. I'm seeing this a lot in businesses these days. The decor isn't anything special but I heard the coffee is good. I was welcomed by the really nice young lady behind the counter. She was a true pro handling everything alone. She kept the line going. I ordered my small drip coffee and paid cash. She filled it up very well. I grabbed a lid and luckily there was a seat at the one table outside. The coffee is very very good. The service is top notch. I felt very comfortable with everything except the seating. The table was super sticky. I put down napkins and tried not to touch it. I felt guilty taking up the one table. I tried not to linger very long. If it wasn't for the seating and table cleanliness this would be a five star review. I'm not sure I would be able to bring friends here. I'm recommending you try the coffee if you're nearby, or you live in the neighborhood. I'm glad I know Oslo is here. The coffee is pricey for me at $3.00, but it's very good! read more

the coffee was good! got an iced latte 3 days in a row and the espresso was smooth and bold, not at all acidic which i love. they have no cinnamon powder which is fine but i noticed with the younger lady working there she only was nice and chatty to regulars. i tried to make conversation with her and she was short and cold... she was just cheerfully chatting with the customer before me who was a regular to my understanding. did not love the service from her at all, especially since i went bc i was at special surgery hospital for my moms operation.. just trying to get some normalcy from an outward seeming friendly barista. did not get it. I cannot believe I'm the first to review this popular chain in a popular location! I went last Friday morning at 9:40 a.m. The line was very short with only 2 ahead with many other patrons quickly flowing in and out during my stay. There was 1 cashier and 1 barista on staff. Service is with a friendly smile and highly efficient with clear confident education in their own menu this an easy breezy ability to recommend and discuss their menu. It is so nice to have such a homey, warm coffee shop in this area where there are rather strangely few spite the many residences and hospitals thus much foot traffic. We 3 sat on comfortable pads on a handsome wooden bench which can seat 8 total plus 3 stools. Newspapers and magazines are available and there are generous views through the front window of the very pleasant Upper East Side residential scene outside, a classic timeless feeling and environ. The corkboard has many local tutoring, home services, and music event flyers posted, an excellent resource for locals. There however is nothing Norwegian about this place so the name is unrelated to their product which is a bummer because I was so eager to have a sibling of Fika, the city's Swedish coffee culture chain which is reduced to only 1 location now from their previous 8. Stopped in here after a doctor's appointment the other week. I did that thing where I actually have no idea what's nearby and yelped coffee spots. Onward to Norway! I will say that the coffee is super flavorful and strong which is how it should be. An aroma of both nutty and fruity flavors. I didn't taste anything burnt like Starsucks. The coffee is a bit pricey but comparable to most high-end coffee shops with a small latte running me over $5. I did however ask for oat milk and I don't know if that jacks up the price. Everything was done outdoors which is both reasonable and kind of a bummer that I'm still getting used to with rarely venturing out and there is no outdoor seating. They didn't have a ton of pastries left probably because it was a weekday at like 12pm so I skipped on that but a croissant was tempting. I'd probably try it again. Like I said, the coffee was great. I came in for a cold brew on a weekend morning. The small ($3.50) did the trick! This is a tiny space. There's a table or two in the front with a vine-lined fence round it, and inside, you could squeeze 3 or 4 people at a bench with a low table. I love the decor. The walls are basic wood with very intricate, pastel detail. (It looks Austrian, but presumably it's Scandinavian.) I was in and out in a jiffy. Great local roaster! read more

As a devoted and long term patron of Oslo coffee roasters, I am sad to say that I will no longer be supporting any of the Oslo coffee establishments. On one hand, I still hold strong belief that Oslo makes one of best coffees in the city. I have long been a fan since they opened shop in Williamsburg Brooklyn nearly a decade ago and was very excited when they opened a small shop in the Upper East Side. One element that runs consistently though, is their patronizing " im doing you a huge favor" attitude towards customers. Out of my many visits over the years, I can count only a few incidents when they have been cordial and friendly ( and that's not very often), while vividly remembering countless times when they have been rude, nonchalant or straight condescending. Today was the day when the straw broke the camels back and I've decided that I have had enough. I ordered a box of Joe's and assorted pastries for my coworkers. You can tell the cashier was not there to serve, the moment when he tried to stack my entire order of 6 pastries in a tiny flimsy paper bag, basically crushing the pastries. When I tried to stop him, he got all annoyed and told me that he might not have enough bags. He ended up handing me this black plastic bag with a look of contempt, which was exactly the ones you get at the bodega, for my $3 a pop pastries, sure, let's shove them in a black plastic bag, thank you very much. When I had proceeded to ask for a plastic cup for some milk for my box of Joe's, they told me I could not get a plastic cup for free, they'd have to charge me. This was after I had left a tip with my bill, god I really wish I could have taken it back. The guy did not deserve any tip in my book. So I just spent over $50 in this shop, to be insulted, have my food packaged like it was garbage and told off that I couldn't get an extra plastic cup that's worth maybe 25 cents? That was it for me. What I'm getting here is that Oslo does not want, or need your business. I have held back many times from writing a negative review for Oslo, but with this "I could care less about you" attitude, it makes it really hard for a coffee enthusiast like myself to ever justify coming back. You clearly don't value your customers, and in the long run, that attitude should never be rewarded. Go support other small businesses that deserve it, not one who clearly don't care about their customers. read more

Awesome coffee! No bitterness and a very smooth finish. I love this new addition to the Upper East Side. The hubby's cafe latte was also delicious. But the only thing better than the coffee was the service! The guy behind the counter is hilarious, without trying to be. The woman on line before me asked for extra foam. The barista didn't make a design in the steamed milk for her (I got a heart). When she complained he said with all seriousness, "lady you asks for extra foam. You have a choice, a design or extra foam. Not both." Absolutely hilarious!! Love it , love it, love it!! read more
