Of course my parents and I would also show them the city the way we knew it, but the upper west side was my comfort zone for 18 years. From Columbus circle to around 80th Street I knew everything like the back of my hand. I went to school for one year on 14th Street, and worked there the next year, but I didn't really care to explore the area to its fullest. It's easy to find a handful of places you like and stick to those. Anyway, my mom and I have been taking walks from the financial district to the west village and trying out new places and taking different routes every time for a little while now, so I thought it would be fun to take a tour of a different area but with the same thought behind it... to see all these cool and "hidden" places, and I decided to venture to the East Village. I knew enough about it to know I liked it, and it's in between where I live and my mom lives. This was a three hour tour, and it was amazing! Also, the three hours turned out to be a little more for me and my mom since we didn't have anything else planned that day. So it was really nice that at the three hour mark it wasn't like "ok bye!" with an abrupt ending. But there were some people who I guess had to be somewhere and left 10 minutes earlier to catch the subway, and Pam even walked someone to the subway nearby. It didn't feel the way a regular tour does at all, and by the end of the three hours it kind of felt as if we were old friends just hanging out. The tour was a mixture of learning about random history facts I wasn't aware of, walking, and stopping to eat/have coffee/rest our feet. I had this really good olive bread and an amazon maple syrup coffee, something I hadn't even heard of. Some of the places I had walked by a million times and never stopped in. Another thing I really enjoyed were these gardens. They were like little hidden gems, a small escape from all the concrete and commotion. I want to take the tour again when it's warmer outside, that was the one thing I wish had been different. But this was for my mom's birthday and nothing can be done about the weather. The history "lessons" were right up my alley, since there were ghost stories as well as stories about the mob. It wasn't the boring type of facts that I'm not into. We walked over to alphabet city, which to be honest I've probably been there less than 15 times my entire life. It's very different than it was 10-15 years ago, and there are so many cute restaurants and cafes. Although I don't have a huge sweet tooth anymore, there were these amazing waffles with Nutella and strawberries my mom and I split. After the tour, Pam took us to this speakeasy since we were the last ones and she knew it was my mom's birthday. I love hidden bars, and it was the perfect way to end the tour. I really want to do this again when it's warmer out! It was such a good time and it felt really short because we were having so much fun. And it was so nice of Pam to spend the entire afternoon with us and not make us feel like we were imposing on her schedule. Next time a friend or family member from out of town comes, this is what I'll be doing. Also, I really recommend this for other native New Yorkers, or people who have lived here for a while. If you've recently moved to this area, this would be a great way to get acquainted with cool spots and cute cafes. I always knew the city was big, but this reminded me of how many places there still are for me to discover. Money very well spent... A solid five stars!

So I recommend comfortable walking shoes or sneakers. Also pack a camera because the photos at sunset are incredible. Our guide Matt was friendly and knowledgeable on NYC. When I was here last, there was a massive American flag draped over the front of the New York Stock Exchange. This time, it's just a very imposing and very boring building. Don't forget to walk down Broadway to the Charging Bull, which is still at least a little accessible for taking pictures like a tourist! It used to be possible to rub his "boy parts" which is supposed to give you good financial luck, but they've blocked that off. *sad face*

Although it's labeled as century ride, you can choose from as short as 15 miles, 60 miles, and 100 miles; 3. Plenty of rest stops with water/energy drink refills and foods; 4. Really flat. Cons: 1. Expect traffic lights and bad road condition (not close road race; you have to walk on the bridges); 2. Easy to get lost as the marks are hard to notice if you are not paying close attention. (Light yellow marks at the intersections); 3. The trip takes too LONG and too much time. A lot of traffic lights (so expect a lot of clip-on and unclip). Overall, it was fun!! Rode to many great places that I never been to before. A great way to tour the city but be careful as the road condition is not consistent.

This was on on a Cannondale Hybrid Quick CX4 bought with cash over Craigslist! ...after 2 years of riding I was ready for a full carbon bike, spent shit loads of money and got one in 2016. The Cannondale Synapse is name Green machine, yep cause its green in color!!!!! So, in Sept 2016, i rode the 2nd time! The 27th NYC Century on the Green Machine, it was an epic feeling with a carbon frame vs an Aluminum one. But- I was still searching for those 2 chicks (sigh) ....so times passed by and as those 2 chicks became a distant memory- Transport Alternative (the cycling advocacy group in NYC) announced that 2019 ride (the 30th) would be the last. So 9/8/19, i did my last The 30th and Final NYC Century in the last attempt to FINALLY find those girls, but I just rode the ride with the memory of the ride downthe memory lane.... Good work Transport Alternatives for arranging 30 consequetive rides since 1990. Too bad its no more for you to experience!

We walked around Gowanus, got schooled on graffiti and street art, visited a studio, talked neighborhood history, learned architecture stories past and future, met an artist and her dog on a bridge, found art objects left by another artist to be "gifted to the finder." We did this on day 3 of our trip, and it felt like the perfect timing -- not too early when you're still adjusting, but not too late when you've already seen too much. We went around 11:00 AM, and it wasn't overly crowded, which made it even more enjoyable. If you're coming to New York, I definitely recommend making time to see the Statue of Liberty.
