Ube Latte and Thai Green Milk Tea
    Rosie N.

What a great find in the Drake area. Their dine in area was under construction but the decor and seating that could be seen are cute! Would be a great place to take a break from studying. We got the Ube Latte and the Thai Green Tea Milk Tea. The Ube latte was fantastic! Probably the best Ube tasting drink in the area. It's sweet and creamy. I added the egg pudding that was smooth and soft. And also coffee jelly to give a bit of a caffeine punch. Definitely a drink to try! The Thai Green Tea Milk tea was 50% sugar rather than regular and it was perfect. Not too sweet and not too bitter. The To Go cups it comes in is super nifty! It comes with a little tab that closes it so no spilling while traveling and also a place to lock it in place! You have to see it to realize the cuteness and niftieness lol. Highly recommend and would come here again.

I love how quick and instant ordering your drink is. They have a great variety that you can choose from and your options for your toppings can be endless. After you've finished ordering they have fun places to sit and wait. If you love boba, make sign up for rewards to get free treats! 8 Degrees offer more than just drinks. They have ice creams, Vietnamese Coffees, and banh mi sandwiches.

So gooooood!! My favorite treat in the Drake neighborhood. I'm so glad to have read the reviews and met a former employee to know what to order here. During Covid-19 review: This last visit we ordered Jasmine milk teas with boba! I order with no dairy in the notes or when I have gone in. My kids love the smoothies (with no dairy). Ordering during the pandemic is best online, found on their website and directed to foodbooking.com. I appreciate there is no fee for ordering online. Easy to put in and put notes in as needed. Spent $11.xx for 2 drinks. Fast turnaround and they offer curbside! AWESOME. They took my payment with a square payment system on a phone. EASY and CONVENIENT. GOOD service when I go in. Before the pandemic it was always packed when we went in. Ordering curbside there is hardly a wait. I learned the milk teas (except Signature milk tea, matcha milk tea, strawberry matcha milk tea, and lava milk tea), smoothies, black, and green teas can be made vegan. Non dairy creamer is legit with no trace of animal product. I will definitely be going back and highly recommend. Especially because they offer vegan options.

Without a doubt, this place is my absolute favorite boba place. I don't know why, but 8 degrees is just elite when it comes to their boba quality. I usually get the Signature Milk Tea with 50% sweetness and black pearls and it always manages to make my day better. The area might not be the best but 8 degrees is an absolute gem! The interior and inside is clean and well-maintained and it has a great atmosphere. They have self service kiosks with a great selection and pictures of all the drinks so you don't have to talk to a server unless you want to, which is a plus. Overall, over the many times I've been here they've never decreased in quality, and they remain my all time favorite boba joint.

**Updated** Went back tonight and they had Egg Pudding tonight!! It was off the menu but Kenny let us try it out and it was good!! Can't wait until they have it in the menu permanently!! The Lychee Lemon Green Tea was good and the I'm Groot with Wintermelon and Boba added is still my fave!! Yes! Finally! Another legit Boba option in town!! The only thing they are missing is the Egg Pudding/Custard Topping!! (Which they said should be added to their menu pretty soon!!) I have been wanting to come here for awhile but with the weather the way it's been, I haven't had the chance. Until today! The Atmosphere: Cute little boba shop with a bright openness in the shop. Cute couches and very few tables and chairs. You can go up and watch them make your rolled ice cream if you want after you order. The Service: The young man, Kenny, helping me was super helpful and informative on the drink specials that they have. When I asked if they had my favorite tea, "Wintermelon", he told me they did not but they did have the syrup for ice creams. I told him that essentially it was the same thing just added to their teas. He was quick to volunteer that he would gladly add it to any tea I wanted!! GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE! You do t understand how happy I was to hear this! Haha The Drinks: The choices were great and I'm glad that they are going to add Egg Pudding as a topping later! That is one of the toppings that I LOVE and look forward to more than Boba! Premium Black Tea with Cream Cheese Topping, Boba, No Sugar - Cousin said she liked it! "I'm Groot" with Wintermelon added - 4.5/5 it's only missing the half because it doesn't have Egg Pudding haha This drink is seriously what I always get at my favorite Boba shops in the bigger cities! "Wintermelon milk tea with Boba, Egg Pudding and Oreo" the only difference is that this has Cream Cheese Topping. Loved it and will get it again. I'm actually excited to try their other options now! Thank you for opening 8 Degrees! Will see you guys again

Boba tea and rolled ice cream are my favorites so I've been really excited to try a place that has the best of both worlds. This place is awesome! I ordered a milk tea with black pearl boba, popping rose jelly, and cream. It was delicious! I really like the cups the tea comes in too. I created my own ice cream with avocado, banana, strawberry, raspberries, condensed milk, and whipped cream. The server that made my ice cream ended up noticing before I did that a hair had fallen in ishe told me what happened and that she would be making me a new one. I appreciated that she was honest and didn't just give it to me hoping I wouldn't notice. The ice cream was amazing! All of the employees were pleasant. The only thing I would recommend is anyone making the rolled ice cream wear hair nets or at least have their hair up and out of the way. I will be back soon!

If you want a nice variety and quality boba tea, 8 Degrees Boba is a great stop! They no longer serve ice cream, but do have a wonderful boba tea selection. This spot now has two self order and pay stations at the front of the store which were convenient! If you want a really great customer service interaction though, you will not get that here because of the minimal interactions with staff. I really enjoyed my tea and their cups have great integrity (like these bad boys are thick and it's so nice honestly). Would recommend! You can also choose your sugar level which is great if you find these drinks too sweet or not sweet enough!

I have only ever had Boba, a few times and for a guy who does not drink a lot of tea, I dig certain teas especially when your throw some fruit into it! I really dug the mango Tea that was suggested to me, and it had fruit in it which in a drink is great, in a dessert or on Pizza no thanks! :) This place is super cool. The design is modern and hip and located in a spot you might not ever see it, unless you were a college student at Drake! So seek it out, this would be a perfect spot on a summer day for some dessert or a drink. They got that crazy Ice Cream that you roll into cups! And I dig that they have vegan flavors all around! I dig it!

What a fun place ! Ice cream and boba ! I really enjoy my boba smoothie, and the fancy cups they come in. I think my timing wasn't the greatest because the wait was long. They do take Apple Pay and the service was nice. I like the variety in the menu as well.

Without really any boba options in town having this place is amazing! It's in a nice location in the area by haiku and Drake. Great especially for college students nearby. The shop is clean, vibrant, and attractive. My partner and I each got boba drinks (me - strawberry green tea with grass jelly and she the plain green tea with grass jelly) very good! Haven't tried the rolled ice cream yet but it looks really good especially with the more Asian ingredients. I hope this place stays in business and continues to do well!

First thing I noticed when I walked in was this place has great music! When you hear a song you like, you stay until it's done lol. Most places don't create that ambiance. We ordered rolled ice cream and boba tea. Both were good. We ran into people we knew. No doubt you will run into some one you know too there!

For milk teas, 8 degrees nailed the classic tiger striped brown sugar boba drink, called the "lava milk tea" for 4.5$!! It is on the sweeter side, and you can't adjust the sugar levels for this drink in particular. Boba was sweet and chewy, perfectly cooked. Milk was creamy and the brown sugar taste was strong. Tastes almost like Tiger Sugar brown sugar milk tea in Asia! We also got the Thai tea, and was good as well, could have a stronger Thai tea flavor though. Nonetheless, best spot so far in Iowa for brown sugar boba!

Both ordered at the same time but look at the difference in ice!

Very accommodating and food allergy safe cafe. We love all their milk and fruit teas with boba. And they have NEVER run out of boba when we've visited. Service is always friendly. The owner, Paray, is there sometimes and she makes our visits so pleasant. Cafe is easy to find on University, plenty of parking, and shop is always clean. Super cute decor with egg seats and booths. Seasonal decorations make this cafe super fun to visit all year long. I love how Shaking Boba loves their community. Sometimes they host special events. It's conveniently located in the strip mall with plenty of parking..it's the same mall off of University with Campbell's health foods, Hy-Vee pharmacy, Frederich's coffee. This restaurant still has that old time mom and pop Asian family feel it's a definite classic type vibe with Auntie snd the neices up front taking orders and the rest of the family in the back cooking and putting to go orders together. I always like to support a locally owned business. It's also about expectations, everyone is under staffed, so I always appreciate the service staff who are working. Having said that the service was fast and efficient . It's also about being realistic about the food. This is not a mall based chain restaurant or a high end bistro somewhere. The food was well prepared hot and delicious. This is a Vietnamese/Chinese restaurant. So there's lots of variety in the menu. I have had the build your own Pho, Korean style Kalbi ribs. They also have Hunan Chinese style dishes, i have tried Mongolian beef, combination fried rice and potstickers. I also have tried the pork fried egg rolls. I usually go for a late lunch early dinner. I talked to the owner and asked her how they made their soup and she said they boiled bones and added their own spices which is the traditional way to do things, I think they have a good soup base, all soup comes with sprouts and fresh Thai basil, I usually add bok choy, brisket and steak. They have plenty of other Vietnamese dishes too. I have enjoyed their pork vermicelli which is a cool salad type dish which is nice on a hot day. Some of my friends really enjoy their chicken wings. So there's still a good option with lots of choices, good staff and reasonable prices.

I ordered the Pho Special (comes with brisket, beef tendon, eye of round, and meatballs). Not the best pho I've had, but I still enjoyed it a lot. Broth had great flavor, however I wish I could have had raw steak as I prefer that in my pho but that wasn't an option- I usually like getting raw steak to put into the hot soup and let it cook a bit through as you put it in. I would eat here again though. The restaurant was clean and service was prompt. Nicely decorated, and prices were fair!

Biggest disappointment was that while alcohol options showed on the menu, they were unable to serve any alcohol - claiming that their liquor license had not yet been renewed. I was craving a spring roll with peanut sauce, so to start things off, we ordered #90 Bo Bia steamed spring rolls with shredded shrimp, carrots and sausage served with plum sauce (see picture). While the wrap was thicker than the 'paper' wraps that I'm used to, they were very good - and I really liked the plum sauce. My wife was undecided and our very helpful waiter Archie, suggested #69 Com Ga Chien Xa Ot (chicken breast fried with spicy lemon grass - see picture). It was good, but both of us would have preferred a bit more spice, as we ended up adding Siracha at the table. I was considering #99 Banh Xeo Vietnamese style crispy pancake stuffed with shrimp, pork & veggies based on the menu picture, but Archie talked me into #97 Banh Tam Bi Xiu Mai udon noodles with shredded pork, steamed pork meatballs and veggies instead (see picture). I was impressed with the coconut milk and lemon sauce that he poured over it when served with the instructions to stir it all together - very tasty combination of savory, sweet and tart, with a very slight spiciness.
