I found my new favorite ice cream!! But so sad that it's 3.5 hours away from home! We had lunch nearby and before we headed out on our roadtrip back home, saw this ice cream shop and decided to stop by. The two teenagers working were friendly and helpful. Provided samples when we were trying to choose between flavors. I went in there thinking I was going to get a scoop of their coffee heath, but once I sampled their salted Oreo, I fell in love. The sweet and salty and creaminess of that ice cream was so perfect!! A couple things that I found do awesome in this store.. they have self serve water in the dining area! So many ice cream places make you purchase bottled water if you get thirsty after your sweet treat. They also have shakers with sprinkles at tables!! How awesome!! Busy place which is awesome. Normally love coming here. Was grabbing ice cream for my family. I told them repeatedly I did not want lids. 4 orders plus a pint. When you order it with lids you somehow get less and when I am paying $8 for dairy free ice cream I want my money's worth. It also can get really messy with ice cream melting around the lid and spilling out everywhere. Instead of listening I got lids on 3 out of 4 scooped ice cream along with my pint. I get it can be confusing when there are multiple orders but it does not hurt to ask again. I think someone was also new because because someone was doing to weakest of scoops. Normally I am used to the worker really digging in to get the scoop and that just was not happening here. They also kept getting very confused when we were ordering. read more

They will let you try the ice cream. Unfortunately, this just complicates matters. I usually "narrow down" my choices and then try a couple. Then I really can't decide. Well Home Sweet Cone, Iowa! Delicious homemade ice cream that brings back some great childhood memories. Visited in a Friday night and it was packed! So many flavors to choose from! I ordered the vegan strawberry in a waffle bowl and Mr W ordered a salted Oreo milkshake with Heath bar blended in. Total came to $14.xx before gratuity. Shake was a 12oz cup. And my ONE scoop was huge. Very satisfying. Everything tasted phenomenal. I appreciated the plant based/vegan options. There was vegan strawberry and vegan Oreo. And cones were vegan. Service was ok. There were several young workers and it was late. I could tell they wanted to go home and their hearts were not into serving customers anymore as it was getting to closing time. They still maintained composure and served everyone. Shop decor was clean, minimalistic and reflected a modern farmhouse feel. Seating was limited when it was packed. I am gluten free (Celiac) and I had a wonderful experience at Home Sweet Cone. Not only was there an incredible variety of delicious ice creams that I could eat, but the staff there was also super willing (with me just saying I had an allergy, not having to even ask for this!) to scoop my ice cream from a separate container. I ended up getting the raspberry chip which I highly recommend. The ice cream flavors were good: oatmeal cream pie tasted extremely off, birthday cake was nice with visible chunks of cake, and chocolate brownie was decadent and creamy where it too had visible chunks of brownie! I saw that they were making homemade waffle cones so I had to try. It was delicious but extremely flimsy with a large hole on the bottom. The waffle cone broke half way through eating my one scoop order. One major area of improvement would be service, only one person taking orders and it took a while to get through a small line. read more

Have been wanting to get out and try Home Sweet Cone for a while now, but I am typically not an ice cream gal during the cold winter. Luckily the weather is *starting* to change and on a warmer spring day when my mom suggest dessert after dinner I knew exactly where to go. Very glad we did! First, Home Sweet Cone is in a strip mall style building and not a large shop, but I think that is fairly typical for an ice cream shop. The seating is fairly limited with two small children's tables, two regular four-top tables, two counter tops with seating, and a bench - I can't remember if they have outside seating, as it was windy the night we went but I don't recall any. The lot is fairly big so you could eat and chill out by your car on a nicer night if necessary. I love their name and they have a well thought out marketing and interior design. If you are interested in getting HSC branded merch, they have it! There is also what I call an Instagram wall that is beautiful and fun for a photo op. Now on to the ice cream....creamy!!! Like the most deliciously creamy ice cream I've had. They had at least 12 different flavors (if not more). I got a white chocolate raspberry and my mom a caramel coffee. They also have ice cream sandwiches, cakes, pints to go, and more! We both ordered just one scoop in a dish and the small yellow dish was filled to the brim, plenty for both of us. It was busy, even on a slightly chilly night. Overall a great little shop in the area, I will be back with my family this summer! read more

On my first visit, I tried an ice cream flight that consisted of six smaller scoops and allowed me to try several different flavors. Since then, my go-to has been the Salted Oreo.
