I went to 8 to 8 for the first time yesterday. After reading some reviews on here, I made a 6pm appoint with Henry. I arrived a few minutes early and the woman at the front desk was very polite and helpful. I sat around and waited until about 5:55 when Henry walked over and introduced himself. I expressed that I had not been there before and I was very new to the barbershop scene. Henry was very professional, welcoming, and great at what he does. I felt very comfortable at 8 to 8. I was not sure what to expect since the first barbershop I had tried a few weeks before gave me a weird vibe because I was a woman getting a shape up. This did not happen at all at 8 to 8. I spoke to Jason (I think he is the owner) for a few minutes while Henry was cutting my hair. He recognized right away that i had not been there before. This was a huge plus for me. I love when businesses have such a connection with their clients that they know when someone new has walked through the door. I will most definitely be returning to 8 to 8. read more

I have been coming to this shop for the past couple of years to the point where my son at this point has grown up here now...you can see it from the Pictures. Pictures that are literally helping to Advertise the shop. Dropped off my son tonight at 5:45p...there was only one other person waiting for a friend and my son. He was only going in for a shape up, sat there waiting for the client in the chair to be done. And was passed over twice by people who walked in and didn't have an appointment (because they weren't on a list) just friends and then when my son noticed and asked, he was told the barbers won't be available until 7p at 615p. There were literally 5-6 barbers and you gonna tell me you can't just shape him up until 7p. And the horrible part is you have Walk-Ins Welcomed....welcome to do what wait until you close at 8p. Nah, Y'all gotta do Better than that. There is literally no one in your shop and if you want to hang out and BS on a Friday night in your shop fine, but take care of who's there first. The business awning says Level 8 Barbershop. But it's still 8 to 8. Did a walk-in for a beard shapeup and they took me right away. Danny took care of me. Sanitized every tool that he used and the team was very respectful. Not like some other shops where ppl use colorful language while speaking. This has been my shop ever since I moved to West Orange 7 years ago. They have always left me with a tight cut and even took care of my pandemic fro! I'm in and out with a nice cut and great beard shape up in 30-45 minutes. I am an executive in New York so I have to look professional and LT always hooks me up. A great shop with some great guys. Even if the haircut was good (it was average) I wouldn't come back solely on the location. Parked across the street (in lot) and immediately felt worried about leaving my car. A homeless man hangs by the parking meters to beg for money going in and out. Just a bad area. read more

Had a horrible experience after 2 amazing cuts. I made my appointment, got there on time, and was refused entrance because my 2 yr old did not have a mask. I explained the CDC guidelines and children 2 and under not required to wear mask due to safety. The gentleman goes to speak to the owner who is already cutting hair on a person NOT wearing a mask. I'm then told NO ONE is allowed in without a mask. Please not the gentleman getting a hair cut without a mask was not getting his beard or mustache trimmed so a mask allegedly should have been required for him too. read more

He's been the only one cutting my sons hair since he turned 1, I booked an appointment with BASHIR and instead of them telling me he wasn't there I was forced to settle with some "new" barber who didn't have as much patience with my child's hair as BASHIR did. Went there as a walk-in, found the place to be as up to date as possible. Barbers were friendly and attentive, witnessed reg customers having a good vibe with their barbers. Since I was a walk-in I didn't have a set barber so I took the first open guy. Didn't get his name but he had good convo, and although he seemed the newest to the shop (but I guess not to cutting) he did a good job. Upon leaving they entered my info into their database which I thought was cool, they even had the option of card or cash, which most of these shops are cash only ...cough cough taxes. My only disappointment is the price, almost $40 for a cut with tip, I guess the rent is high. I really wanted to like this place, but getting 2 or 3 cuts a month could be pricey. read more

I had passed 8 To 8 some time ago and thought I stop in and support their business. I have a very important event to attend and need to look sharp. I believed the pictures on their Instagram page was a clear indication of the service they would provide. I was sorely wrong. Every aspect of this haircut is wrong. From the length, which i specified. 1.5 with the grain. I've gotten this same cut for the past 20 years, so I know exactly how long my hair should be when it's done. My beard is unreasonably uneven. The barber never checked to see if the lines on one side of the cut matched those on the other. My hairline is crooked. To fix it I would have to have my hairline pushed back. For any man this is a huge no-no. Long story short, I set out to support a local business and I am left extremely disappointed. A word to the owner. If you can't trust a barber to cut you own hair don't entrust them to cut your customers hair. read more

I have been coming here for the past few months and plan on going here exclusively for haircuts from now on. After I moved to Jersey, I was unimpressed with the haircut places I tried. Granted, I had been looking for haircuts on a budget and going to places like Super Cuts or Great Clips, and they just weren't *cutting it* (sorry, I couldn't help myself...lol) Eventually, I gave up and cut my own hair for a while, and actually got pretty good at it... Then I saw this yelp deal for 8 to 8. This place is a great deal as it is, and with the yelp coupon it is even better. Henry was my barber and he did a great job. My last appointment, well, ended up not being an appointment. I waited 3.5hours, my barber didn't show up. I felt so disappointed. I had an appointment man!. The manager came in to do some damage control, I ended up with a free haircut after waiting so long and missing out on meetings. Customer service is paramount in any human interaction, and treating every service goes a long way. I was committed to this place. Its a business, this does not mean it happens to everyone who goes there- I don't think they would be in business if this happened often. However, I hope this becomes the only lesson, and also serves as a reason for them to better customer service. read more

I was in the market for a new barber due to a calamitous fire which engulfed my previous barber's shop. Honestly, i was looking to make a move anyway, due to the inconvenient location, lack of accessible hours and the overall unsavory nature of the element that was hanging in and around the shop (which really isn't an issue for me, since i grew up in the rougher parts of Jersey City, but i have an 18 month old son that will need cuts, and i didn't want him to have to be exposed to that quite yet). "barbers in West Orange"...i was expecting a search that would yield a panoply of "old timey" style barber shops, but lo and behold, the first result pops up with 8 to 8 barber shop. Okay, good site design....rare for your run of the mill barbershop...Okay...appointments online...also rare....Okay...genuine site registration with customer databasing...really impressive...WHAT! there's an iPhone app??!! im in...made an appointment for the same day with Henry...the guys (Jason and Henry), acknowledged my arrival right away (I was 10 minutes early). Extremely friendly and professional. Knew exactly which items to ask for my opinion on...taper, rounded,keep the sideburns.. etc. I wasn't a regular so this is expected if you're in a quality shop. Usually when I am with new barber I sweat because I get nervous, my skin is super sensitive and I get red / get cut easily. Being a more "dominant" female, its not often that I've walked into a male dominated space and not felt some kind of weird scrutiny (especially in a barber shop). One word, Unprofessional. Made an appointment online for 11:30. Called 30min in advance to make sure there were no issues with appt . Person said its a good thing I called because online booking system didn't book appt, but confirmed I was ok for 11:30 after they input my info in system. Get there at 1130, and someones in the chair for at least the next hr, meaning Barber just started their cut. Ask barber if I could step out for 5min to make a quick call, and return in 5min to find somebody else in the chair ....lol (1.5 hrs wasted - I just left), all you can do is laugh and warn potential customers about how unprofessional this place is and I would not recommend . Visiting from out of town, it can be a scary proposition to find the right place to get your hair cut. 8 to 8 is a place that will put your mind at ease and allow you to get a great cut. The atmosphere is friendly yet professional and while there, I saw all types of people coming in. Some barber shops have that " know it all" type of attitude regarding how they cut YOUR hair, but that is not the case here. Damon was attentive, careful, and erred on the side of caution with my fade. When I told him I needed more taken off, he cheerfully replied, " No Problem, " and made it right. Forget what anyone else's says I've been going to this barber shop since the owner before Jason and that was when I was around 11 or 12 this barber shop has been giving me some of the freshest cuts. I always used to go to Jason but he doesn't really come most of the time very rare to see him lol. You have special services make the appts properly depending on the service... If it takes 50 mins to do something knock out a 50 min window on ur appts tab on ur website. I shave my own hair and decided to go to 8 to 8 to shape up my beard befor my trip to Jamaica. Got there and the only male barber had a client. I was greeted by an older Hispanic female who asked what I needed done and I told her. She invited me to her chair and insisted she could shape me up. Although a little hesitant I obliged. The woman then pulled out a ruler and some other geometry apparatus and proceeded to shape my bread using it as a guide. I stopped her and asked if she truly knew what she was doing and again she insisted stating she has been in the business for a long tome and her tools were to ensure a straight line and clean shape up. To make a long story short...by the time she was done it looked as though my 6yr old son had shaved me. Once I got home I had to shave my entire bread off and go on vacation to Jamaica looking like a shaved p***y. I refuse to patronize 8 to 8 and would never recommend them to anyone. read more

Always great. I have been getting mine and my 7yr old son's hair cut at 8 to 8 for the past year +, and it's a great place to get a cut. The staff is dedicated and talented and the loyal customer base reflects that. I always make appointments before I go (online booking through their website is a breeze) and with that, waits are usually minimal. The prices are slightly higher than some of the other local barbers, but I am a firm believer in getting what you pay for, and 8 to 8 delivers consistently in that regard; additionally, they have a program that rewards customer loyalty and allows for discounted services with repeat visits within the same month. This barber shop looks nice but this review is based on the haircut I got. I went in with high hopes but was very disappointed. Jason passed me on to another barber who happened to be free. I feared the worst since she seemed quite inexperienced but I gave her the benefit of the doubt. I told her what I wanted but kept on having to direct her. After an hour I was very disappointed in the cut I got. This wasn't value for my money. I won't be going back here. The shop looks good on the outside so that's why I gave this 2 stars. Based purely on the experience I had this would get 1 star. There are much better options in the area. read more

Soooo it's now official this is "THE barbershop" to go to....I have now been going here for 6 months and am definately one happy customer. The technology used by this barbershop is top notch that's a given considering they even have thier own app. Ok, so your reading this thinking with that type of technology they must be expen$ive? WRONG! The prices are very reasonable. Not so cheap that you think your stepping into a SuperCuts yet not so expensive that you have to let your hair grow more than you'd like b/c you cant afford the cut...Jason, the owner, is my barber of choice. He takes his time to ensure i walk out of there happy and if I don't walk out of there happy it's my own fault b/c he always asks before he is done and never seems upset if i ask him to "touch" something up. I personally hate barbershops where you feel rushed when your on the chair. Not here, Jason is working on a masterpiece (my do, lol) and I appreciate that. I've seen him work on others who aren't as "high maintence" as me and he's quick so if you want a quick haircut he'll do that too... In my 6 months of going there I've seen Jason display some very nice acts of kindness not only to customers like myself but others who walk into his shop. Jason is truly a "class act" and I wish there were not only more business owners like him but quite honestly more ppl like him. I started taking my son to 8 to 8 Barber Shop when he was about 3 or 4, he is now 6. I hadn't had any luck with the chain places - high prices, poor service and bad haircuts. I am so glad to have found this place. All of the staff is friendly and welcoming, and Jason cuts my son's hair perfectly..I can't speak for the others bc they haven't cut my son's hair, but i am sure they cut well, seeing that there is always a small wait for each of them :)...Oh, and recently if we've had to wait, they have been nice enough to give my son an ipad to play with. Very pleased with the haircuts that my children -- toddler girl with thick, jet black curly hair and my tween son with thinner, straight hair -- received at 8 to 8. I usually take my daughter to a salon but I liked the cut that my son received so much, I brought her in a week later. The owner Jason gave her a great cut!
