Don't use these guys. I myself am a tax accountant. Looked at my family members return done by 808 tax and some obvious deductions were missing or just flat out wrong. The business expenses calculations were questionable to me, and in my opinion would raise some red flags for an audit. They even messed up the income numbers and my family member had to amend. As far as I know, I wasn't able to find a CPA or EA licensure for the guy that did my family members taxes on MyPVL (Hawaii's licensure database). A little sketchy. read more

I had an extremely frustrating experience with 808 Tax. I made an appointment with them on February 10, 2025. During my phone call, I thoroughly explained my situation -- I just opened a small business in 2024 and had a baby. The rep on the phone seemed to understand everything, and we scheduled my appointment. Fast forward to today, February 26th, when I showed up for my appointment only to be told that they had no record of it. After reminding the clerk of the date and our conversation, she finally remembered. So, I waited for nearly an hour before being seen, only to find out that 808 Tax only handles personal taxes, and they can't assist with my business taxes. This was a complete waste of my time! I was really hopeful since they're so conveniently located across the street from where I live, but the lack of communication and the fact they didn't mention their limitations when I initially called was incredibly frustrating. So this year we did our taxes with Bernice. My wife and I thought she did an outstanding job with us. We had an appointment with the legendary Jimmy, but like usual, we were still waiting to be seen regardless of our scheduled appointment so I decided to sit down with Bernice which fortunately, she was. We were very comfortable with her and it was such a smooth process. No offense to Jimmy because he's still the legend, but I felt like it was much faster with Bernice than with him. Anyways, whoever is available first next year, I'm taking it. Please be mindful to make an appointment super early. They are already taking appointments for 2020 already. I hate it when people walk in and then expect to be seen within the hour and then get super respectful towards the staff when in actuality, they're waiting more than 3-5 hours because of the scheduled appointments. So in other words, please make an appointment because if not, go kick rocks lol. My wife and I felt the "mean eye" stares from all the walk-ins as we walked out past the lobby area, I sooo much wanted to yell out, make an appointment or suck it up. Clients such as myself with scheduled appointments still find ourselves waiting over an hour past our appointments, but because they do such an amazing job with our taxes every year for the past 4 years, it's worth the wait. Just bring snacks and a fully charged electronic device to "kill" time. Please be VERY patience with these guys as they are doing their jobs and a great one too. It's unfortunate that there are bad reviews, but I do feel for both perspectives. Your tax fees are based on a percentage of what your refund is so it varies depending on you. Don't forget to referral people to this business so you can get a discount on your tax fees next year. I didn't have to pay and it was projected over $500 in fees. They have a small parking lot that's shared with other tenants of this building. They're located literally at the corner of Piikoi and Kapiolani Blvd. You gotta sign into the logbook on the first floor near the elevators. They're located on the 4th floor. There are now signs posted stating that Jimmy 808 Taxes are not responsible for vehicles that are tagged by the building landlord when you are parked for over 45 minutes. read more

BE AWARE!! I want to give Jimmy Hui negative star if there is any. I had an appointment with him at 9:30am and after an hour and half I got see him. When I sat on the desk I was able to see the whole information for the previous customer; their w2s, SSN, addresses, numbers, and all her private information. Anybody goes there could be a victim of Identity thefts or auditing for screwing up taxes. He is very hypocrite, claimed to be the servants of god which he is not. Last Year, I received my tax return for 2014 after 9 months and whenever I asked him for help, he turned his back away. I referred a lot of clients which I regret. This year I gave him a chance but thankfully I didn't file with him. My boss Mike Camera, he got audited by the IRS because Jimmy screwed up his taxes, and didn't help with the auditing. Mike also mentioned that his office is going under serious investigation. I highly recommend not use Jimmy Hui for your taxes, totally unprofessional, unorganized, and it is highly risky. read more

After being recommended by numerous people, I went to Jimmy for the 2014 tax season. He is so kind, friendly, and funny, but most important, sharp--very sharp with numbers and deductions. He helped navigate my deductions as an independent contractor and as a small business owner. Being I had more than the usual (I'm assuming) to input, I had two 1-hour appointments. His prices are extremely reasonable and worth it for the return that he got for me! I honestly thought I would not get a return this year, but the amount I received exceeded any wishes for one! DO NOT GO HERE!! Best advice do not come here!! This is my first year filing with 808 tax and the only reason why I came here is because my husband has been coming here. He insisted we go see his tax guy which didn't happen. Someone else filed for us. I was not present during this time when my husband decided to be a walk in. After a 4hour wait he got it done and a few days later I looked over our taxes and realized they had put my birth date as my 5yr old daughters birth date. And my birthday year was in putted wrong. My birthdate year they entered was 86 and my daughters birthdate as 89 . That means I had her at age 3! Stupid!! I did not receive a child tax credit for her. SO I had called and told them about what had happened and the said they will fix it which they "said" they did. Apparently they didn't because the wrong amount was pending on the irs.gov website . I had called IRS to see if they could see the amended amount. They said no that the tax people need to send it through mail because the first one was sent electronically. Anything amended needs to be sent through mail. 808 told me they fixed it which was incorrect. So I go down to sign the amended form and they tell me next time I have two days to check and make sure everything is correct before they submit it. Another words it's not their fault. First of all tuna how could my child be 28 and I be 31? That was your guys error. Secondly I was not present which it would have been my husbands fault for not looking it over yes and for also picking you stupids for filing our taxes. This is federal paper work. Get with it our get a new job! Also the lady told me I can mail it. Mmm no you guys finish your job and you guys mail it because it was your mistake and we didn't pay you guys for nothing. So bottom line find smarter people to do you taxes. Don't go to them unless your desperate. read more

Great experience but don't come here unless you have time to wait. Even with an appointment, there might be people ahead of you taking longer than expected. That being said, we had a great experience with Jimmy. He did everything he could to save us money and get us the biggest return he could. Guys, the man is in his 90's and still doing complex work so be patient with him and know that he wants you to leave happy and come back again. I personally loved seeing this old man at work. He was funny and inspirational at the same time and he put a smile on my face. Don't come here if you are in a hurry and don't come here if you don't respect your elders. Be kind to this man and his office because they have to deal with upset people that don't understand how it works there. Lets just start off by asking, why doesn't yelp allow a review with no stars? First year doing my taxes with jimmy. AND NEVER WILL BE COMING BACK! First off, we scheduled an appointment at 8:30am & come to find out jimmy says that they open at 9am and he and his staff usually don't start till 10am? This entire thing beats the purpose of setting an appointment. We finally sit down with jimmy and we watched him for a good 10 mins trying to find our paper work. He comes back and says he can't find it? Like what the hell?! At this point I'm filling up with anger & start questioning about where my papers are kept. He replies by saying, well I'm not too sure where the other staff's files are and what we should come another day to see if they find it by then. We ending up coming here for NOTHING! Nothing has been done at all! PLUS ID BE CAREFUL WITH THIS COMPANY! They show you a computer screen showing everyone's personal info! UPDATE: Since my family and I decided to no longer do business with this company, my sister called the office the other day telling them that we were going to pick up all of our paper work and have our taxes done elsewhere. Me and my mom finally had the time today to pick up our files and as we looked to see if all our paper work was there... one of our family member's previous tax returns weren't in the file given so we asked their staff Bernice where it was and she comes back saying "WE CANT FIND IT OR WE DONT HAVE IT". I'm SUPER FURIOUS ONCE AGAIN! As I recall from my meeting with jimmy the other day, WE ALL SAT DOWN AND REVIEWED OUR PREVIOUS TAX RETURNS TOGETHER!!! I have been going to Jimmy to do my taxes since 2014 and they have always do their best to help me get a refund. They do their best to do it according to Irs rules and regulations. So ya, I trust them to do my taxes every year. They have moved to 1221 Kapiolani which have more parking although we have to pay its worth it. They also have made it easier for us so we can go on line or email our w2's in. It's better if we just drop off and pick up when ready unless we need to see Jimmy, Bernice or one of the agent. They really do their best to make it easier for us. And their rates is less than most places. They also do review, amendments back to 2016. Been seeing Bernice for the past 4years.We been filing under small business and the state of hawaii did an audit for our last 3 years.After audit was done we had the owe...tried multiple times to Bernice with no luck....finally spoke to Bernice who tired to say she didn't do our taxes..I said yes you did..your name is on my return....some how she remembers...told her the situation and she told me she no longer works for Jimmy but opened her own place...How can you say it wasn't you and now not willing to help ..We ended up paying the 2200.00 we owned and is taking out business else where..Poor customer service and clearly dont care for their clients.. You risk being audited if you go here. Jimmy proclaims to be a Christian yet he will make up schedule C businesses to get you a refund. FRAUD. He prompts people to lie and say they have a "small side business." He explained that allows him to claim expenses, plus depreciate a vehicle. He stated if the numbers are low enough it wont be audited and its my money the government is keeping otherwise. They failed to file my tax return from a couple of years ago, making up excuses such as "the computer crashed" and "the hard drive failed". Additionally, even though I had looming penalties and deadlines, Jimmy Huie ignored my pleas for assistance, instead inquiring about payment. Further, he LOST some $20,000 worth of receipts to be used as write-offs, incorrectly filled out a new tax return with wrong information, and then insulted me on top of it. I did not ONCE get an apology from him. Mr. Huie and http://808tax.com shall soon visit the karmic penalty for this abuse, as we shall be contacting the Better Business Bureau, Hawaii State Tax Franchise Board and other relevant consumer protection agencies. If I could give negative stars for this business, I would. They are THE WORST. Bernice was supposedly working on the taxes for our mother's estate. I spoke with her once and she was very rude and condescending-- telling me she over 2,000 clients during tax season, implying that I really wasn't that important. That's great customer service for you! I had further questions and either called, texted or emailed EVERY DAY for two weeks with NO response. When I called the office, she was always "with a client" and each person who answered the phone (always someone different) could barely be bothered to take message. I felt like I was dialing into a Rap Replinger comedy sketch, it was that bad. When she finally finished the task, there was no dollar amounts entered in the forms, and it took her over a month for this result. In essence, we paid $500 for nothing. A total mess. Definitely no Aloha Spirit. Go elsewhere for your tax needs. read more

Was refered by a friend and scheduled an appointment for today at 330. I got there, employees were friendly so far it's good. Looking through yelp reviews was pretty good so I was pretty excited to finally find a good tax place . I expected at a 15 minutes maximum wait, since I know I have an appointment I'll be seen soon. I wasn't seen until 1.5 hours later!!! It beats the whole purpose of having an appointment!!!!! as I sat at Jimmy's desk, his last clients name and address was visible for me to see since there is a separate computer facing you so you can see what is being typed in. So I told Jimmy that his customers information was visible for me to see and he wasn't even conncern or showed any concern about exposing his clients private information. I didn't end up filing my tax and I chose to request an extension to file late. So we completed most paper work and as I got up and about to leave, I had to tell Jimmy to please close out the screen that had all my personal information, this time it had my SSN, address and full name for his next client to see. Then he had the nerve to mock me because I scolded him about protecting my information since he knew I was a paralegal as he laughed saying "oh OK paralegal " and i also reminded him that my husband is an attorney. I was very disappointed and definitely will not be filing my tax here. Identity theft is a serious matter and tax officers should make It their priority to protect their clients identity and private information and it's their responsibility. Awful experience. Been coming here for a few year's now. First year had an appointment Jimmy took a long lunch and we had to wait over an hour and a half. The next couple years it's been pretty much the same waiting at least an hour and a half even with an appointment. This year I filed my taxes 3 months ago. Received my federal refund and not state, I figured ok maybe state is behind. Called State today and they said they never got it. Called 808 tax office and they said "oh it says you were supposed to mail it in" I was never told I needed to mail anything in. Why do I pay over two hundred dollars to have my taxes prepared if they can't mail it for me?!? I'm pissed. Called over 5 hours ago to find out how they're going to rectify and Bernice has not called me back. Called again and the girl says "oh you were the one who didn't mail in your tax forms" seriously?! Dept of Tax says at this rate I won't get my refund until August if it's sent in now. I had my tax appt on a February 16. The most incompetent company I have ever dealt with. read more

This place should not even get 1 star. They messed up my taxes pretty bad. I called to get it fix and the person who prepare my tax said that they would be there until 4. I left work early to get my taxes fix and the preparer was gone leaving me with the receptionist who did not know anything and tried to give me the same information. After going over my taxes with a receptionist and explaining the situation I was beyond frustrated. Why is a receptionist looking over my taxes when the preparer said that she would be there until 4pm. Why the heck did I leave work early to turn around and have a receptionist go through my taxes. Needless, to say I do not recommend this place. We paid $200 to have a professional file our taxes and there were so many mistakes. This is not the place to go.
