CAUTION: RP Tax Service - Cannot Recommend. I am not a current client of RP Tax Service but I requested help from them with tax preparation and a more urgent tax planning project. A number of reviews on Yelp and Google are similar to my experience. These reviews and mine convey a consistent, ongoing severe problem with incompetence and/or a "who cares" attitude from RP Tax Service. This should be disturbing and alarming to all those currently involved with them and for those wondering if they should get involved with RP Tax Service. I called numerous times before leaving voicemails or sending messages and NOT ONCE did anyone pick up the phone when I called at different times on different days. I left a voicemail and/or sent a message on August 4, 2026, August 5, 2026 and August 20, 2026: 1.) My phone number and email address was provided with each and every voicemail and message. RP Tax Service NEVER responded. 2.) I even requested a courtesy response from RP Tax Service even if they were not accepting new clients so I would know asap to begin looking elsewhere for help. RP Tax Service IGNORED. I check my email spam folder 2-3 times per day and the spam setting is set up to ONLY delete messages that are 30 days old. My voicemail setting is set up to show all calls AND attempted calls even if no voicemail is left. Today's advanced technology exists that can place visible pop-up messages on websites; and/or send automated responses to inform people of companies' intentions or abiliity to respond, if they are accepting new clients or not; and if delayed responses should be expected, etc.. NONE of this on the RP Tax Service website. No helpful automated responses received by me either. Disturbing and puzzling. Is RP Tax Service tax programs and guidance also behind the times as well? . Of course, the RP Tax Service website includes all the usual boastful, sentimental and pretty language stating how great they are and how devoted they are to customer oriented service. Big talk. Actions are what matters. So what do we have here? What should we make of my experience and others' similar experiences? What impressions and conclusions should be drawn? RP Tax Service: Lack of professionalism Lack of basic, common reasonable courtesy Lack of a conscientiousness, caring & concerned attitude Lack of organizational skills & management Lack of time management skills Lack of adequate staff Lack of cutting edge technology Are these fair and reasonable impressions and conclusions? Tax preparation, tax concerns, IRS problems and issues, and accounting all require tax firms to possess timeliness, effective technology, proper communication and responsiveness AND NOT LACKING in any of the skills and qualities that I mentioned directly above. Am I right? RP Tax Service can just as easily fail you as they failed me and others, client or not. Given my uacceptable experience and those of others, what do you think the odds are that RP Tax Service will also fail you? Is the gamble worth your hard earned money and potential IRS problems and fines? If and when RP Tax Service responds to this review: Please ask yourself if the RP Tax Service response adequately justifies their failure to respond to me and others. Does their response give you confidence that you won't also suffer the same experience as me and those of others. What deficiences in competence and attitude have been corrected so that their monumental failure with me and others will not happen to you after you fork over hundreds of dollars to RP Tax Service? So if you are convinced that RP Tax Service may be lacking in professionalism, basic, reasonable courtesy, a conscientiousness, caring & concerned attitude, organizational skills & management, time management skills, adequate staff, and current cutting edge technology, why not seek out any of the other numerous competent and caring tax professionals out there? This is Jacob Siaosi, the professional accountant who had nearly completed my taxes by the time I arrived at his office. As I sat at his desk I was able to look at the digital photos of his lovely family. Very creative way to entertain customers while they wait. When Jacob was finished, he printed off my return for my records and informed me he would send in my return electronically and inform me. The only downside was that I didn't ask in advance what they charge because it was way more than I anticipated. Wish I could give a zero. They prepared my 2024 taxes last year and made a huge mistake on the allowable mortgage deduction. They said I could deduct all interest paid on my mortgage. I told them no that's not true, but they insisted their software was correct. So I get a huge refund. Then in December I get a letter from the IRS telling me that the mortgage interest deduction was wrong and to file an amended return. I call them and get a message that they are gone for weeks but will be working remotely. I also texted them and filled out the form on their website. Still have not heard back from them. I called RP on Monday, March 23, 2026 to ask for them to do my taxes this year. I was told by a woman who answered the phone that someone would call me back the next day. Well, Tuesday came and went, and Wednesday, too. On Thursday, I called RP back and was told by the same woman (she at least owned up to the delay, saying that she notified someone to get back to me, but was sorry that there was no follow-up) that she would make sure that someone WOULD return my call this time. But to this day (April 14, 2026) no one from RP has got back to me. Now, if this company were swamped with tax prep business, don't you think they would at least have the courtesy to tell me, straight up, that they were overbooked and couldn't prepare my taxes for me, instead of leaving me hanging? I got the hint after a few more days that they weren't interested in doing business with me, but I was curious: Was RP Tax Services ever going to get back to me? Nope. Anyway, I paid someone else $445 to do my return--and it was done in two days! read more

. My experience with this firm has been disappointing. After six years, I am still resolving errors made by the company. They struggled with complex tax scenarios and did not optimize potential benefits. Also, after being assured that my initial pricing would remain consistent (Robert mentioned I would be grandfathered in), I received a bill in 2018 nearly double the previous year's fee. Robert did not communicate any pricing changes if I added more tax documents, which is common as one progresses in their career and life. Although I was promised consistent pricing if I continued using their services annually, this was not upheld. While the firm may be sufficient for straightforward tax matters, I would not recommend them for more complex situations. My experience involved Robert's failure to notify the state of Hawaii about paying taxes in other states, which should have been documented on an N-15 form. When the state later requested tax payments, Robert attempted to charge me for correcting the forms, even though his oversight caused the issue. So any "late forms" should had been submitted at the tax year deadline by Robert, but this was not handled. This has nothing to do with GE or general excuse taxes which I'm familiar. RP Tax's focus on pricing overshadowed the quality of service, making me feel like just a number. He eventually just started ignoring me altogether. Very frustrating experience. My tax accountant since Robert has been fantastic, but they have had to go back and correct many errors made by RP Tax. read more

I have been wanting to find a new CPA. I read the reviews on Yelp and many Yelpers highly recommend RP Tax Service. So glad we came here! When I called the office, Jennifer explained to me what to bring for our appointment. When I arrived for our appointment Robert welcomed us. He patiently explained the taxes. He showed us in detail the costs on paper. Robert broke down all of the credit lines so we can better understand why. Robert gave us our prepared tax packet. This includes the information on the 2 year comparison data. He gave us the effective tax rate, and the tax rate change. Being fair, Robert does not charge heavily for preparing our taxes. When I called, Janice was so lovely, she explained how she couldn't give me an accurate quote on the phone, and that I could upload my docs to get an accurate quote. It really helped me to look on their website, compiled the docs I needed from their extensive preparation list, scanned it and named properly. Their online website portal to upload docs and their chat system means it's super easy & you never have to walk in, if your taxes aren't complicated! I absolutely loved Jacob, he gave me such great advice! He answered my (rather ignorant) questions with such grace and extra information, it actually helped a lot in other scenarios, so I could advise my friends and coworker to go to them for questions. I absolutely recommend Robert and his services! Watch out for the parking though as McCully Buffet is there now and during lunch time, the parking gets crazy. Other than that, RP Tax Services is the place to go for your taxes. For the past 10 years I've had my taxes done in VA despite being on the island due as I've had an excellent relationship with my former accountant. This year, however, I decided to switch as due to security/identity theft issues, it's getting harder to transact across the internet; and because, for the first time, all my transactions occurred in Hawaii making it easier for filing my taxes. I was a bit concerned that I would not find a professional just as good as my last one. I was thankfully wrong. When you walk up, ring their number into the intercom and you get rang into the building. Take the stairs and follow the signs. You'll be warmly greeted by the nicest and personable person (Mrs. Purcell), and the rest of the experience follows just as smoothly. The rest of the service is quick and the price is reasonable. If you need your taxes done right, see Robert. He is truly as good as it gets. Thank you Yelpers for steering me in the right direction. This was the first year that I wanted to hire someone to prepare my taxes. My husband and I married two years ago, and we decided to file jointly with a couple of changes in retirement plans and employment. It was through the divine grace of Yelp that led me to Robert. I checked out the big names like H&R and Jackson Hewitt, but their reviews were scarily unpredictable. Not something you want associated with taxes. RP Tax had a commanding presence on Yelp with a solid 5-star rating from dozens of yelpers, and that was good enough for me to make an appointment. His office is on McCully right off of King Street. If you've eaten at Cammelia Buffet or sang karaoke at Chiko's Tavern, you'll have no problem finding this building. The office is on the second floor, and you must enter from the secured door on the McCully Street side. Using the down arrows on the intercom, pass a few names through the directory until you see "RP TAX SERVICE", and he'll buzz you in. It's the last door down the hallway, but is well lit, safe, and air conditioned. The room is tight, with only six seats or so for his loyal patrons. His popularity with military and local families are clear as I stood in the waiting area with my tax papers in hand amongst the crowd. Robert immediately took notice and offered me a seat from his desk. For those like me who get cold easily, bring a jacket. Robert and his associate crank in some crazy hours and took me in later on that evening because his assistant had called in sick doubling his work load. I came back at 9pm and it was like night and day: the room was empty and quiet. Robert had a warm smile but you could tell he had a long day of saving taxpayers, one refund at a time. His credentials are solid. Robert worked in the mainland for years before moving to Hawaii with his wife and kids. It's so rare to find that balance of hospitality and competency. He is extremely easy to talk to, efficient, but most importantly, accurate. We chatted about his daughter graduating in the mainland, his adorable grandchildren that adorn his walls, and his love for cruises. He and his wife have taken many cruises and have experienced some amazing spots on the globe! At the end of the number crunching, he was so thorough in going over everything to me and my husband, that we felt 100% comfortable with our decision. His rates are extremely fair, and his dedication is evident as he mentions he doesn't leave the office until 2 in the morning. Good grief! This man needs a break! I received my federal refund the week after in lightning speed! I will not see anyone else for my taxes but this man. He's got me locked. I went to this office first time and other guy did tax return for me. He made mistake my address and I told him that, he said " This is better?" after corrected my address. I told him that " Not better, that's correct my address " If something come from IRS, if my address is wrong and I can't receive right away. He just input my documents and no questions to me, I thought they helped my tax return more help. If just input my documents to systems, I'll ask to my friend who did turbo tax. My tax refund was big down from 2021. But tax return fee changed me more than H&R Block. I was disappointed and I don't use again. read more

Calling them up to schedule an appointment is easy to do, they were very accommodating when I've had to schedule on the weekend. We go to our scheduled appointment drop off our paperwork ( I have my own business) and in about a week he calls us to schedule an appointment to sign our returns and have them electronically filed. Robert and his wife Jane are the owners and run this business and make it so easy and painless. We are even charged less than we had been paying at our previous tax preparers office. RP Tax Service is run by Robert and his team. They are located along the very busy McCully Street and they share their parking lot with Camellia Buffet, which is now known as McCully Buffet. I've never really had problems with parking, unless maybe you go during lunch rush. Right around the corner there is a call box, just dial them and they'll let you in for your appointment. The building is clean and they are located at the end of the hallway. They have a nice office space and it is very comfortable, which helps for when you're waiting to see if you will get a return or will have to pay this year lol. Robert is professional and knows what he is doing. He really explains the main points of your return, which is especially useful for those who are new to doing taxes. He even provides additional paperwork to show you the differences between the 3 most recent years. It's just a nice piece of information to know, but last year it hurt because it was my first year to owe money due to Covid and unemployment. I didn't request to withhold the federal tax until after half a year of receiving the Unemployment Insurance, which was my fault. I've only had one issue, and it was communication through email. One year, during the off season, I don't quite remember what I needed to inquire about, but I did send an email to their office and didn't get a reply. However, as tax season was approaching, I received a few calls to remind me to schedule my next visit. This year, I needed a copy of my 2020 tax return for a visa, as I misplaced my hard copy, so I sent them an email to see if that was possible. They did in fact initiate the process over the weekend and were able to get me the copy I requested. However, I needed the document asap and because there was no email to let me know that action was taken, I assumed that the request didn't go through. I do appreciate that they were able to send me the document through their website in a very reasonable timeframe, it's just the communication that action was taken would have helped me in the visa process so I could have adjusted accordingly. They do have a website, so you can inquire about setting up your account when you start doing service with them. One of those services includes the ability to open up a chat with their team. I went ahead and sent a chat, asking the same thing in the email just in case the email didn't work. However, no reply from either. One thing I did get though, were a couple voicemails earlier in the month reminding me to schedule my appointment. I was never available to call during their hours to answer their calls, and I didn't call back to schedule because I was still waiting for 2 more documents. So I guess if you need to contact them, it's best to schedule an appointment and see them in person.
