I was greeted by the presumed owner like I was a long lost relative with a hearty "Welcome!" and when I checked out, he cracked a little joke, asked me politely about my day, and said "please" and "thank you" at every possible turn. And then he asked if he could help carry my bag to my car (which held a 6-pack and two big waters, and I had other stuff in hand, so it was a totally appropriate but unexpected offer). That is an extremely sharp contrast to the general disdain and annoyance I've encountered at the gas stations and convenience stores on my long route- about 20 hours at this point. And while I hold no grudges, and would, surely, be super annoyed myself in that job, that only supports my point of exceptionalism in the mundane. And if I someone else stops here, instead of across the street, as a result... then let's score one for kindness and good graces.

I'm talking an abundance of selections. It's as if you've walked into the LQ warehouse. Furthermore, the flow of the store is set up for convenience. You come in one door and go out another. As you walk through the store the aisles are set up to aid you in getting in and out. As I was there for ice, I still had to acknowledge the business as the store was clean, the cashiers were friendly, and for those who drink they have options on top of options. While there to pick up a prescription, the counter clerk, besides being very slow and ponderous, proceeded to dump a large container of syringes into another container right in front of me at the counter. Were they used? Regardless, I found it quite inappropriate. When they could not find my prescription, that same clerk said, "Call the doctor yourself." Rude, rude, rude.
