I normally write my review around food, service and ambiance. However, this is a quick update and I want to rave about one thing. This restaurant is doing something extraordinary. If you ever eat here you'll realize they don't have a tip option on their payment device. Yep, you read that right - no tipping necessary. I want to say that the tipping culture in the USA and some 3rd world countries are getting out of hand. This establishment must be paying their employees a fair wage. I think we need to support these types of establishments. As a matter of fact, I want to bring cash now just so I can thank the hard working folks that service us here. I also want to add that the food here is good. It's consistent. It's spicy when you ask for Indian spicy. It's very kid friendly and every entree comes with rice or naan. I was quoted 20-30 minutes when ordering online, but I arrived early and my food was actually ready in less than 15 minutes. The first staff member I encountered spoke no english, so I had to wait for another worker to eventually come out. He handed me my order which was just sitting there near the host stand. Got the classic butter chicken with basmati rice, and butter naan. The curry dish was made up of large chunks of chicken and was more sweet than spicy. Actually, there was almost zero spice. I love this place. It's my go to spot for Indian food near where I live. I usually go for their lunch buffet. I get to have foods I would normally order and try foods I often would overlook if I wasn't at this place. I do appreciate that they take the time to put the vegetarian options in one area. I definitely appreciate a staff member coming to give me a fresh naan. They also tell me what the food is if I'm unfamiliar with it which helps me educate myself on Indian cuisine. read more

Found this place looking for food in this plaza. Spacious area and look like they have a lunch Buffett. Came for dinner and wasn't busy m. Quick service. Started off with Pani puri, the sauce and inside was good but the shell was on the thicker side. The garlic naan was fluffy but didn't really taste the garlic flavor. The butter chicken and masala was tasty but flavors can be stronger. Chicken was tough and dry. Lychee was an interesting taste in the masala. The dosa was the best part. The restaurant is very clean and there are many vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. The meats were cooked to a tender point and most of the dishes have a mild heat level. They also have lots of different desserts. There is a mango one that was pretty good. I also enjoyed the unsweetened tea. The goat curry was pretty good. Parking was simple and service was decent. We had them catered to my company and man their jeera pulao and tandoori chicken hit next level. Extremely tender chicken with so much flavor to it. The rice was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Good food, but bad service! this has been my experience for last couple of times now that customer's time is not valued. Usually we order from phone and pick up at the restaurant. They just give you a standard time that your order will be ready in 15 minutes but the last two consecutive times it has taken them 35 to 45 minutes, so the food would not be ready for pick up although we reach there at the given time. We still have to end up waiting for 20-30 mins. The last time was the order was already at counter yet i was told order is not ready. Moreover, the staff or the girl at the reception isn't very professional to even give appropriate reason or apology for the delayed order or their carelessness. I've always seen 8Elements passing this plaza and now I finally got to try it! My boyfriend and I came on a Friday night. It was packed so I already could tell this was going to be good. We ordered the masala dosa, lamb kebob and classic butter chicken with basmati rice. The masala dosa was BOMB and it was so BIG! This was my first time trying it so I'm not sure if this is the usual size but it was big for us! We enjoyed the 4 different sauces. My boyfriend favorite was the coconut (white one, second to the left) and mine was the last one on the far right. The lamb kebob was also delicious! It was cooked well and I always love it with the mint chutney. Of course, the classic butter chicken was classic! This place is definitely my go-to Indian spot. My family has been going to this restaurant for many years. They are our go to catering vendor. Their in restaurant food is amazing. I love their masala dosas and their sambar is very well made as are their chutneys. This is the place that I like to take friends to eat when in the South Bay. I have not tried their buffet, but if it is anything like their catering food then it must be amazing. We always get both vegetarian and non vegetarian dishes when we have hired them for catering. They always give us good quantities of food and everyone loves the food. I would strongly recommend both their restaurant and their catering services. read more

The ones I've had in the past are crispy, this was soft and mushy, almost like a doughy burrito. And the chutney selections were just ok. We live in Evergreen and 8 Elements has been our go-to restaurant for 10+ years now. The quality of vegetarian dishes (especially North Indian) is one of the best in bay area! It is always a good dining experience at this restaurant! Recently, for our daughter's Arangetram (Dance Recital), we chose 8 Elements to serve dinner. Review for Takeout only Was craving Indian food while running some errands so I stopped by and ordered a goat pepper fry (~$16 + tax). It was ready within ~15 minutes and the food was well sealed for takeout. The quantity was enough to serve 2-3 people. There was a decent amount of goat despite having a lot of bones. The flavors were good and had some heat without being overly spicy. Overall, I thought it was delicious. My entree came with a choice of rice or plain naan. I opted for the naan this time and it was hot, fluffy, chewy, and delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed that. You can add a few more bucks to get naan in different flavors. It looks like they have Lunch happy hour for ~$18 a person at the time of writing this review. I'd need to revisit sometime for that and try out their other dishes. read more

I went for Lunch Buffet only. Their quality went down quite a bit. So, I stopped going to this restaurant.

I have been coming to this restaurant regularly for almost 10 years. The food is always VERY good! But beware of the chicken corn soup. I door dashed some because my daughter and I are fighting the flu. When it arrived it was breaded chicken (like chicken nuggets) cut up and put into slime (my daughter said toad snot). There were about 6 kernels of corn along with some other veggies. I had high hopes in spite of the looks of it. Sadly, they were dashed. The taste of salt and pepper was so strong, and the breaded chicken was slimy. It was sad. Everything else is amazing, but don't order the chicken corn soup. read more

We hired 8 Elements for catering at a party at our home. We had 45 guests, worked with Ganesh on the menu. The communication was prompt and he quickly shared options to cater to our crowd since we had a lot of kids. We had a live dosa counter. The chef was just amazing! Always smiling and willing to help with dosas. He was quick and offered cone dosa to the kids which was a hit! The rest of the food items were all really good- Chicken and Veg Biryani, Sweet corn, Medu wada, Chicken 65. They arrived promptly on time, set up the dosa tava a day before and everything went very smooth. Overall we are happy with catering services and would work with them again. read more

They were so fast and efficient! They were a good portion size and tasted delicious! The ambiance is casual nice. MOST of the time however, the food here absolutely SHMACKS! (It's very good) -Route 65: the Chennai chicken 65 is one of my favorite appetizers. Scrumdillyumptious seasoning that pairs so well with the green sauce and fresh lemon juice. Cons: -Butter chicken is veryyy tomatoey without much other flavor which can be a bit much for some butter chicken enjoyers. -The online ordering implies that you get a choice of rice, naan, or both, but in reality you definitely only get one. This confused me my first time here (hopefully it's fixed now!) Finally tried this 8Elements. It's been around for decade in my area but just tried it today! It had me at Dosa . Nice cozy place. Decor is nice. When dining at Indian restaurant I prefer buffet as I like variety and I never know what to order. Buffet option here is not massive but has your normal options, tandoori chicken, butter chicken, biryani and few other veggie options. In my case it had most of what I go for. I do like pakoras mix battered fried veggie sorta like tempura but they didn't have it at the buffet. I believe they do a rotation as what is offered during buffet but some dishes are always offered. Heat wise if what I had was perfect for me not overwhelming. I had butter chicken, plain rice and tandoori chicken. What sold it for me was the Dosa and it was part of the buffet. At $16.99 not a bad price. I'd go back. What fell short to me was kheer dessert. I prefer it cold and this was warm and not much rice in it just milk. Other was the naan, it was dense not fluff. I think next time will go in earlier as I did show up at 2pm buffet runs till 3pm, food will be more fresher. Was unsure because of the average yelp rating but I was blown away by the food. Really enjoyed everything we ordered! Start with the vada pav (great dry powder masala on it) and element special chicken. The best appetizer was the crispy baby corn though - would 100% get that again. For the main course we loved the tender goat pepper fry and masala dosa with chutneys on the side (peanut, coconut and tomato). Sambar was delicious and we finished every drop. The chicken kothu paratha was quite good as well while the andhra fish fry was good but overshadowed by everything else. While running errands in the area we saw a sign for the lunch buffet at 8 Elements. Impulsively we decided to try it since my wife and I are always open to exploring the cuisine of India and a buffet gives us a sampling of the restaurant's interpretation of familar dishes. The restaurant had just opened so we were seated promptly. As we expected we saw food common on buffets including tandoori chicken, butter chicken, mixed pakora, chana masala, naan and others. Since we were amongst the first customers of the day the food was hot and at peak freshness. The flavor of each dish we sampled was balanced with mild spice level. I would have preferred a little more heat and would request it if I was ordering off the menu. The food from my first pass was so good I had to make a second visit to the buffet to try a few other dishes. Overall I was very pleased with my first visit. Service was excellent. Our water glasses were refilled and empty plates were promptly removed from the table. The waiters were attentive without being intrusive. I look forward to our next visit. read more

The host walks up and doesn't greet us or anything but does lead us to an empty table. We got the Chaat Samosa which was delicious. The contrast between the cold yogurt and chickpeas with the warm samosa was really addicting. A little heavy on the red onions though. The Aloo Gobi Sabji was really tasty as well. Not too salty but it was a bit oily. I ate it with the Naan bread which in my opinion could have used a little bit more cooking time for a nice char but it was still good. The Tandoori Prawns were pretty good. The shrimp had a nice char but it was a bit salty. All that being said, the service was super disappointing. Asked if we wanted anything else after we had just gotten our appetizers and one of the entres. When we told them we were waiting for our other food, he went to the kitchen, came back, and verified our order with us on his little notebook. We confirmed our entire order and he went to the back to see where our food was until he told us that "it was brought to the wrong table". LOL. Complete lie because no other table in the restaurant seemed to have our entrees that both come in a clay pot. Anyways, we eventually got our food but the servers here definitely lack diligence here. We recently had an Indian party with a Mexican theme. We were thinking of getting Indian catering done by 8 elements and Mexican catering done by a Mexican service. When we talked to Ganesh, the catering manager, he told us that he can do both. He said he would also prepare dessert cups with Tres leches and mousse. He sent pictures of what he could prepare. The options were awesome. In the end, he made paneer quesadillas and chicken quesadilla on site as appetizer. He had Mexican condiments as well. People went for seconds and were surprised by the uniqueness and the quality. The main course had a great variety and everything was top quality. The service was top notch. The guests were treated very well. The food was awesome and the dessert was over the top - truly delicious with a lot of flavors for the palate. I cannot say one bad thing about the attitude, professionalism, quality and care for the guests. Everyone was pleasantly surprised by the unique but delicious mix of items. I heard praises from each and every guest and we had over a 100 guests. Ganesh served some complimentary items because he truly treats a party as his own party and he comes to it with his dedication, love, soul, and spirit. A nice authentic place to try Indian food for the first time with flavors that aren't overpowering but also delicious! I've always wanted to try this type of cuisine but haven't found the chance nor "right" place to start with... I'm glad this one was it. We ordered the tikka masala, buttered chicken, goat curry and lamb fried rice and cauliflower appetizer. I was a fan of all of them and felt that the sauce wasn't too runny that it was able to be held well with both the naan and basmati rice. Even my little toddler enjoyed it! On a weeknight, the ambiance was calm and mellow as there weren't too many people (there were mostly just families of 3-4), but the take out orders were on fire. That's how you know the food is good! The only thing that really bugged me was the lack of care in the service provided. The rotating servers spilled our chai as they brought it out and didn't give us any additional napkins to clean it or offer to top off/get us a new one; they took away 1 water rather than giving us an additional one because we had a little one with us, and didn't refill our waters until the very end when we were done with everything even after asking for a few times. read more
