My friends and I heard a lot of good things about Eos & Nyx so we decided to come here for a girls' dinner. The restaurant itself was beautiful and the ambiance was probably one of my favorite parts of the experience. Of course, we had to start off with some drinks. You can never go wrong with an espresso martini and I really liked mine. For food, we started with the pita dip appetizer ($21), which ended up being the standout dish of the night. The dip was flavorful, and the pita was fresh and perfect for sharing. We also got two orders of scallops ($18/order), rigatoni ($45), and a N.Y. strip ($79). While everything was presented nicely and looked appealing, most of the dishes fell a little flat in terms of flavor. Nothing was bad, but nothing really wowed us either. I think that given the price point, it was fair to expect dishes that felt more memorable or unique. Overall, I can see why people come here - the atmosphere was beautiful, the drinks are solid, and it's a fun place for a night out. That said, I personally felt like we were paying more for the ambiance than the food itself. Oh my fancy. As someone born and raised in San Jose who now lives in Sac and has not visited downtown in a few years, my first thought was, "Where am I? Santana Row?!" I came for group dinner where were treated to the meal by a colleague, so needless to say -- I had the time of my life! When I saw the prices, my expectations were reasonably high (I had to keep asking to see if anyone else would dare to order the most expensive entree -- $79 10 oz NY strip). Everything I ordered (the steak, mussels, tiramisu, beignets) exceeded expectations! I also got to try appetizers that we shared: octopus, pita (with quality fish eggs in the hummus!), a raspberry cream cheese toast -- I know these foods have fancier names, I should have taken a pic of the menu, my bad. But everything was fantastic. Aesthetic, fresh, and a foodie dream experience. They also have palette cleansers!? We had a yummy tea after appetizers and a yuzu mochi bite before dessert. The one entree that did not exceed expectations was the chicken, which was a bit on the dry side. The drinks are also fantastic. The chilaquiles were okay, and the duck leg was probably the strongest cooked dish flavor-wise, but there was only one piece and it wasn't nearly as juicy as I expected. When I saw it was Mediterranean....I was feeling a little biased. I have to say though, I was pleasantly surprised. My friend said it was one of his favorite spots....so went with trusting his judgement. My 2 friends and I came on Sunday around 6:30 pm for dinner and sat in the patio area because my fur babies accompanied us. Would've loved to sit on the inside since it is such a beautiful interior with a chic-low-fi, lounge-y vibe. They brought a cool water bowl out for my pups. Firstly, service was seamless. Our server lady (Ady [sp?]) was amazing. So sweet and checked in with us regularly. She helped set the patio heaters on to our preferred settings any time we needed it adjusted-- so really appreciate that! For wine, I got a great orange-something grenache that had a little citrus zest to make any meal interesting. Secondly, we were so pleasantly surprised when Ady brought out some small dishes/samplers including an Amuse Bouche "Caviar cones". Flavor profile was a creamy rich "sour cream & onions" style with a crunch on initial bite- better to eat it whole, in one bite. She also brought out a "mexican agua fresca"-inspired drink that had mango, pineapple, apple and citrus twist. Was refreshing and not to sweet that it left any syrupy feeling in your throat. Perfect! And the last surprise we got for dessert were cute little round rice crispy treats that wrapped up our meal nicely. From the menu, we ordered the following: 1. crudo daily selection of seafood (tuna)/ curry/ chili/ shallots - we got tuna (very fresh) - a fun play on two contrasting flavors with the sauce. 2. octopus mole negro/ lime/ maiz/ marcona almonds/ coriander - octopus texture was done appropriately (not too chewy or too firm). - The spicy chili adds an exciting kick, but for my spice tolerance level, may have been a bit much - the peanuts add a smoky tinge to the flavor along to the --what I suspect is -- black ink sauce. 3. brussels chili honey/ bacon jam/ tomato/ pickled onion/ house spice - -crisp flakes of brussel sprouds wrapped in a warm flavor of onion and cherry tomatoes 4. n.y. strip 12 oz taro espuma/ black garlic/ bone marrow reduction - this was my fav in terms of taste and visual appeal. I have been here twice already and it's one of my favorite date night restaurants. We went here once for our anniversary and they gave us a cute card that was hand signed by all the workers which I thought was very thoughtful! Delicious start! Octopus was 10/10! The sauce was incredible and flavorful! The rigatoni was yummy. I really enjoyed the texture and flavor of the pasta. Had Keep Calm and Crab On, Stuffed French Toast, Chicken & Waffles, Pipikaula Ribs and Flatbread for appetizer. This is more than just eating; it's a dining experience. Keep Calm and Crab On is their version of Crab Benedict. Everything about this Benedict is special and unique. Instead of the traditional lemony hollandaise sauce, it had a brown butter hollandaise. The brown butter's nutty and slight sweetness complemented the crab flavor that you can still taste the crab instead of getting overpowered by the sauce. They use loose real crab meat; not the crab patty type so no fillers. Really good amount of minced crab meat that it's nicely proportioned with the biscuit. Instead of English muffin, they use a big scallion biscuit. The biscuit was toasty on the bottom and the rest was moist with little pockets of honey. The poached egg's yolk was a bit more cooked than the traditional jelly or runny yolk but it did not make this dish any less yummy. Crispy hashbrown on disk shaped. Every part was great. 5/5 stars. The best Crab Benedict I've had and I've had quite a few. The waffle in the Chicken and Waffle was very crispy but at the same time almost flaky. It was not the dense fluffy type but it was easy to eat. It's like a cross between a croissant and waffle. The syrup was lighter than the thick pancake syrup. The waffle is 5/5 stars. The Chicken part of this dish is basically like a Taiwanese popcorn chicken that you can get from a boba place. Bite sized dark meat chicken battered and fried. Served with Sriracha mayo type sauce and syrup. 3/4 stars. The Stuffed French Toast tasted like lemon meringue pie. Sweet lemony filling. The French Toast itself was fluffy but at the same time nicely soaked in custard. Slight cinnamon flavor. It came with a thick slice of bacon which is more like a slice of grilled pork belly that was buttery and umami. 4/5 stars. The Pipikaula Ribs plate had 3 slices of bone in short ribs, kimchee fried rice and two over medium eggs. The short ribs were grilled and looked like the sweet Korean BBQ short ribs but it's more savory with peppery flavor rather than sweet. Tender meat. The genorously portioned Kimchee rice was mostly spicy. 3.5/5 stars because the Kimchee was too spicy to fully enjoy the dish. The Flatbread appetizer had a good amount of mozzarella cheese melted on top soft fluffy flatbread with salty prosciutto slice in between. Topped with perfectly poached egg. Wish they offer fountain soda vs bottled ones. Each dish was eye so pleasing that couldn't wait to dig into it as soon as they landed on the table. Server told us the chef recommends ordering an item from each block section so generally, you have a protein aside and appetizer to share with everyone and a pasta/carbs dish. The octopus is LIFE CHANGING, literally the best thing ever. Came here on Friday for dinner. It was easy to make a reservation and we were seated quickly. The interior is gorgeous and there is also seating upstairs. The staff are super friendly and attentive as well. This restaurant is very generous, in the sense that throughout your meal, you get lots of free food. For example, we each received a caviar cone, palette cleansing juices, and a dessert jelly cube. The first 2 freebies were very delicious, but the jelly cube wasn't my personal favorite. In terms of food, we got the octopus (MUST TRY), the Brussels sprouts, the ribeye, and the lemon pie for dessert. The octopus had great flavor, was super tender, and was the highlight of the meal. The Brussels Sprouts were good, but very sweet. I was pretty disappointed by the ribeye. Our server hyped it up, but I found it to be very chewy. The flavor also did not come through much. The lemon pie was okay, but I wouldn't get it again. In addition, we also got drinks. They were pretty small, especially relative to the price. Don't remember the name, but the one with dill and yogurt was very good! I'm definitely coming back because the octopus was SO GOOD! read more

I've been here a handful of times now (for brunch), and I'm impressed by the consistency in food, service, and overall hospitality (both times we've called ahead to reserve a large group 8+ and the manager was fantastic). SJSU alum may recognize that the space was repurposed from the old theater. They've done a great job making into a beautiful dining space, and I can see myself coming back in a few months to enjoy the summer sun on their second floor seating overlooking DTSJ. My friends ordered shareables and larger dishes to share family style to try a variety of dishes. Cocktails (and zero-proof!) are also very well made. Super cute interior and a great spot to brunch with friends or a date night. Be prepare to street park or pay to park at one of their walkable lots! read more

Great ambiance, decor, service and food. They start you off with these complimentary mini (very mini) cones with caviar atop some type of mouse or cream. They were good! Their crafted cocktails were pretty good, but kinda high in sugar ratio. We ordered the Branzino and the Rib Eye and asked them to slice it up for us, with their Brussels and scalloped potatoes to be shared amongst the 4 of us. Also ordered the flatbread -- this was my favorite! Dessert: we ordered the Tiramisu (it was a creative construct ....but I didn't like it and prob wouldn't order this again). Before we get into the food, let's talk outstanding service! From the minute we sat down I was impressed with the level of attention to service detail. This was a birthday dinner, and on table was a birthday card signed by the entire restaurant staff. Very nice touch. Our waitress approached promptly and introduced herself, pointed out the card and said we all signed it for you and if you want to take a photo with us later we can arrange that. That's a first! The whole staff was very friendly and great about being attentive and accommodating without being intrusive. Plates came at a good pace and were removed when appropriate. Even the runners and bus staff were exceptionally nice and engaging. Our busser made a point to come over and wish our guest a happy birthday. When we asked our waitress if she thought one aspect of a dish was prepared with yogurt, she went back and got detailed information from the chef. Every moment of interaction with the staff was enjoyable. Now to the culinary experience (and it is just that)...it does not disappoint. From start to finish Eos and Nyx provides a full dining experience that you might expect from the highest end Michelin starred restaurants in New York or Paris. It begins with a delicious and fun amuse bouche of a tartare of tuna in a tiny waffle cone topped with caviar. It's as tasty as it is adorable! We then ordered the beets multiple ways. This is definitely the most delicious and creative beet dish I have ever had, not to mention beautifully presented. It combines flavors, textures and spices in a way that delights the palette. We also tried the flatbread and I can again say it was one of the tastiest flat breads I have ever had. After our appetizers we were treated to an intermezzo of a combination of fruit juices (a departure from the usual icy intermezzo). At first I thought it was quite sweet, however the sweetness dissipated immediately and left the palette cleansed. My husband had the lobster tagliatelle which was perfectly seasoned and cooked. My burger - enhanced by the smoked mushroom and kasseri cheese - was cooked to perfection. While our guest enjoyed the flavor and presentation of the New York strip, we did note that it and the taro espuma could have been served a bit hotter. Even the side of Brussels sprouts was wonderful. The only slight disappointment was the dessert course. While we appreciated the creative presentation of the tiramisu, it lacked the traditional coffee and Marsala flavors, tasting more like a standard chocolate cake. Additionally, while the custard and bananas served with the Loukoumades were excellent, the beignets themselves were quite dense. That said, the birthday presentation of the tiramisu was a wonderful touch. The evening finished off with a creatively presented bill and a mignardise of an apricot jelly and final birthday wishes from many of the staff. It was a wonderful experience in every way. read more

Came here for a birthday celebration, we were excited when we first found out about this place. Since it's owned by the same owner of Paper Plane, cocktails were amazing. Ordered the "Licensed to Dill", very fresh and fragrant. Food was okay though. Crudo and octopus were better than the mains, but we expected more for a restaurant of this price. The mains were terribly salty, the fish might be a better choice, pasta was a no. Yet very nice interiors and vibes, perfect for date nights. Staff were also nice, they signed a cute little birthday card. But probably would not go back for the food. read more

OBSESSED. I literally love this place! lol. First time checking this spot out and I am SO IMPRESSED. From the outside this restaurant looks pretty mundane/normal, however when you step inside you are welcomed into a romantic + classy winter wonderland. We were lucky enough to be accepted as a walk on for the bar area and wow! This bar area has a super chic, stylish, and cute design. Major style point on this one lol. We were helped by our awesome server Aaron who explained the menu options for us and made key recommendations. Since we weren't super hungry we decided to share the Rigatoni and the Half Chicken. WOW I was so impressed with how delicious and flavorful everything was. A++++++++++++ Additionally we were greeted and introduced to the meal details as they were brought to us, it was so lovely. To start they brought us the Amuse-Bouche aka Caviar Cones (which looked like tiny ice creams but were actually a type of cream cheese + cavior + something like a waffle.) It was very interesting and different. I don't think we ordered this but it was nice to try. :) I believe they're complimentary with the dining experience (pretty sure lol.) but they were super interesting and nice surprise for sure. :) Both of our dishes the Rigatoni and Half Chicken were absolutely AMAZING. Superb and literal perfection. The portion is also great and super filling. We were both super IMPRESSED with how delicious everything was. Also please check out the photos these dishes are plated beautifully! The swirl of flavors and the beautiful plating combo was perfection. I also really like how the bar area is so vibey with all the super cute Christmas decorations. Our meal was served quickly and our server Aaron was charming and very helpful. I got a peak at the main dining room and WOW so beautiful. I would definitely recommend you snag a reservation for the main dining room in the restaurant if you want the full "romantic and classy dining experience". I was also impressed because when I asked for the last parts of our meal to be boxed up they brought a table holder for the to go bag. Super efficient and what a great + small attention to detail. Also I thought it was super cute how they bring the check with an interesting dish that holds a plant and some light sugar coated dessert dough. You can really tell that they put so much effort into the dining experience here which I definitely love. Our dining experience here was soooo LOVELY. Highly recommend! Pro tip: Book a reservation online for a table in the dining room. Also there's an outdoor parking lot right across the street on the left hand side which seems to be the most convenient option. Also come here hungry! The like to course out the meal with several dishes as opposed to one of two select choices. - Good to know stuff. read more

Eos & Nyx absolutely nails it when it comes to ambiance, presentation, and execution. I'm a total sucker for interior design, beautiful plating, and thoughtful details--and this place really delivers. Everything just felt so well done. We came here to celebrate a couple of friends' birthdays, and while it's definitely on the pricier side, it truly felt like a you-get-what-you-pay-for experience. The ingredients tasted incredibly fresh and high quality, and you can tell a lot of thought and intention went into every dish. They also have a full bar, and from what I understand, the team behind Paper Crane helped with the bar program--which makes total sense because the cocktails were excellent. We ordered a wide variety of dishes across the menu, and honestly, everything was good. A few standouts for me were the octopus (with mole) and the pork shoulder with potatoes, both of which were especially memorable. They also surprised us with a complimentary mini appetizer before the first course, which was a really nice touch and made the experience feel extra special. Overall, this is very much a splurge spot--but one that's absolutely worth it for a special occasion. Beautiful space, thoughtful food, great drinks, and solid service. Very cool Greek restaurant in downtown San Jose. Love the aesthetic of this place with a nice outdoor patio plus interesting architecture utilizing the central stairwell. Lighting, plants, furniture, everything gave such a cool vibe. Food is definitely Greek with some general Mediterranean inspiration. Starting off, cocktails. Lots of interesting things to choose from, but the one that really grabbed my attention was tree of life. Definitely kind of like a spicy mojito, but with mastiha. I first had that in Greece and fell in love with it, hard to describe but kind of minty and eucalyptus like but its own herbal kinda thing. Never really have seen it anywhere so I was stoked to get to have something with it. Started off with a little amuse boushe, honestly missed what exactly it was, but free bite can't complain. With caviar too, very nice touch. I ordered the scallops on the appetizer and the duck for entree. The scallops are definitely a little pricy for 2, as scallops go I guess. They were cooked perfectly but nothing to write home about here. Can't go wrong but I'm sure there's better stuff here to go for. The duck was also cooked beautifully and quite a nice portion. The waiter actually told me there wasn't much couscous to go with it, but this was definitely a full meal in my opinion. Kinda wish he hadn't steered me wrong here, probably wouldn't have gotten the scallops. The duck had a great texture and flavor, something fun you don't often see on the menu. Additionally they had a jus poured table side to go with it which added a special touch. The couscous absorbed up all that sauce and made for a great accompaniment. Would recommend getting some veg or something to go alongside this rich fatty dish though. Finally got a fun presentation with the check plus a free little tropical gummy final bite. All the plating was top notch. Overall love everything about this place and definitely would like to try more on the menu in the future! read more
