Where does one begin? When Jack fm first went in the air, they were sort of ground breaking and fun to listen to. They didn't have very many commercials. Now it's 10 minutes minimum of commercials every half hour, unless it's the weekend, and you get maybe 50 minutes of what they claim is an hour of ad free radio listening. Additionally, now there's people talking crap about nothing on the weekends early in the morning for hours - again really, it's a lot of garbage they talk about. They also play football games during that season, and for what I don't know. I'd rather watch the game on tv. What really chaps my hyde is the stupid Kars for Kids commercials that pop up on the L.A. station. They're a business that serves only kids in New Jersey. They're self serving, and don't really care about any children except the already rich Jewish families in the New York and New Jersey area. What the hell do I want to donate my house, car, truck or boat to them for? There's millions of other kids that deserve more, especially the poor, the disabled and of color, and those that aren't back East. But I digress. My complaint lies with Jack FM management and the owner. They've succumbed to being greedy and as such, have ruined the listening experience by jacking it up with talk radio, commercials that don't relate to the listeners in the greater Los Angeles area, and stupid public relations/interest spots. I wind up spending more time turning the volume to zero than actually listening to music. Thank god for cd's and satellite radio. So, sadly to say, I no longer listen to Jack FM on the radio, or on iHeart Radio. Both have way too many commercials and talking which ruins the listening experience. And since they're greedy, I see no change to the format with the exception of having more commercials and more talk. This seems to be the norm today - most radio stations are playing more commercials. I'm not stupid like most people, and say I won't change the station or put on a cd when they start yapping. I'm not a sheep, nor am i gullible. And I won't take it anymore. It seems, that I'm not alone either. More people need to pass along to radio stations, that their primary reason to exist is to play music, not commercials and especially not opinionated morons on talk shows. And Jack, if you ever read this, if this keeps up, you need to brand yourself as a commercial and talk show station. There's not enough music played on your station to call yourself a music station. read more

So I called in for their radio contest, I got thru to a guy named Robert, he said he was English. Robert stated that I was the winner of the contest and proceeded to take my information. I supposedly won a weekend at Fantasy Springs Casino with a round of golf. This happened back in September 26th. I have not heard back from them since. I called the radio station and left a voice mail along with an email. No response. I know this is something for nothing, or is it? I will no longer be listening to Jack FM on principle. read more

From Zeppelin to Van Halen to Deep Purple to Pink Floyd to Pearl Jam to STP.....I could go on and on!! I grew up listening to these classics! Yes, the play list can get repetitive at times but......I can't complain! These are my jams! Whenever "Running with the Devil" starts playing, I crank it up all the way, pretending I'm Eddie Van Halen rocking out that guitar solo or David Lee Roth singing my brains out!!! So I went to the Jack FM event at Yankee Doodles in Simi Valley last night. It was to party hardy, while cheering the Lakers on, as they battled the Orlando Magic. Basically it was an excuse for Jack FM to hand out stickers, to help promote their radio station, but I was one of the people to get the trick 'F--K Orlando' Shirt. Since the radio station and representatives were only playing outside, I don't really think it can be called an event. Anyway on to the station itself. I started listening a couple of years ago, forced actually to endure it in my new boyfriends car. But eventually I grew to like it. I think mostly because there aren't real DJs...no dumb butts talking for 5 minutes. I think also another reason it grew on me, is at the same time I was getting into Rock Band and Guitar Hero, and a lot of the music is played on Jack FM. They do play some of the same songs over and over, but they are the songs you actually want to hear over and over, because they are so classic. So when my ipod starts to get boring, I usually end up radio station surfing, and more then 90% of the time I stay on Jack FM! read more

I have an auxiliary audio input for my iPhone so I usually just listen to my personal music collection while driving. I also listen to TV shows on my iPhone. Seinfeld makes for perfect in-vehicle entertainment while driving because (1) the show is mostly dialogue and (2) I've seen most of the episodes many times, which makes it easy to visualize the shows (kind of like a good audiobook). But if I am listening to the radio, 93.1 Jack FM is the best radio station I've experienced in Los Angeles. Their music collection is pretty good, and more often than not, it is the one station that keeps me from channel hopping. Also, and this could just be luck, but they seem to play less commercials than other FM radio stations in the Los Angeles area. read more

That said, Jack is still my favorite radio station because no other SoCal station (correct me if I'm wrong) plays Tears For Fears: Head Over Heels WITH the segue to Broken. I can appreciate the fact that this radio station plays a variety. And by variety, I mean a VARIETY! They'll go back and forth on the playlist (one minute you'll be listening to Pink Floyd's "Money" and then the next minute you'll be listening to Muse's "Madness"). The reason why I can't fully say that I love this station is because the music that they play are the same recycled songs that you can find on other stations. If they also added not so popular hits that were considered HUGE hits back in their days, then this station would be the perfect station I have ever heard. Are you sick of hearing Lil Wayne's newest single on both POWER and KIIS simultaneously? Did you finally catch on that STAR 98.7 wishes they were KROQ and plays the same stuff within minutes of its airing on 106.7? If you answered yes to any of the above question, then do yourself a favor and change your dial to 93.1 JACK FM. This has by far become my favorite radio station. They play a fairly wide variety of music from a wide variety of eras. You'll recognize and enjoy almost everything they play, and the same thing is seldom played multiple times. It doesn't sound like there is any discernible Top 40-esque repetitive playlist. The no-DJ no-nonsense approach works well and you just get the maximum amount of music possible. this is the first station i've been able to listen to for more than one song.. before changing channels to look for another good song on a different station. i can actually listen to three or four songs in a row. wow. finally. they play a mix of different types of music. after all, their slogan is "playing what we want" they're kind of like an indie station, but they play 80s hits and modern stuff at the same time. they also have funny contests like best mustache / beard and the ordinary listener of the day. plus, which other radio station has sticker pimps? jackfm is pretty cool. read more

JackFM is a good thing for radio. They may not play every genre or much pre-80s, but they're still the most varied of all the stations. I've discovered several semi-obscure bands and songs through this station over the years. Most of their snarky bumpers are lame but I'll take that over a long-winded DJ. read more

The radio songs are great but the street team sucks. They don't like to see you to get prizes from them if you have won from them before (which is like 3-6 months ago). The current street team is mean and unfriendly and unfair to loyal listeners/goers. My favorite radio station. Good music, no annoying DJs, and it has a great, self-deprecating sense of humor. I want to know who writes those station identification announcements, because they're almost always hilarious and witty. I think Jack is actually my biggest source of good comedy nowadays, strange as that may sound. That said, I wish their play list were bigger. The similar but now-defunct Playlist had more variety (but with that station, you had to endure their obnoxious female version of "Jack," who was the antithesis of funny). I love most of the music I hear on 93.1 JACK FM and Jacks station promos are priceless, but lately Jack's been playing alot of the trash I can hear on 102.7 KISS FM or 104.3 MY FM. Now if I wanted to hear pompeii by bastille, blurred lines by robin thicke or little talks by of monsters and men and run around spitting out teeny bopper catchphrases, like YOLO or #IThinkImTrendyBecauseEverythingIsACatchPhrase I would probably listen to one of these other stations, but NO! I'm just looking for some good music that isn't being played to death by most other radio stations. If it wasn't for these trendy contaminates I would give 93.1 JACK FM five stars but sorry Jack, you get only two stars from me because JACK FM gave me hope, Jack gave me hope that I had finally found something worthy of breaking off the TUNE knob on my car stereo, so that the radio station would never be changed again (I was ready to commit and ask JACK FM to marry me). And then Jack let me down by playing the absolute worst type of music ever (short of country), that makes my ears want to bleed. Now by all this I'm not saying that Jack should replace the previously mentioned trash with something worse like music by Lil Wayne or Kanye West... ...but seriously I have free music streaming on my data plan and buying a 3 dollar auxiliary cable will save me all kinds of grief. I am here at the Jack 7th show and wanted to express how bad the sound was tonight for TOTO! Mc Hammer was on before them and all you heard for an hour was The low ends and barely his vocals. Then TOTO went on and it sounded like a transistor radio. Pat Benatar is on now and the very first song was a perfect sound. I think they screwed the acts previously and I think thats terrible! Great station simply because it carries New Order, Joy Division ( it only plays Love will tear us apart ), The Smiths (only how soon is now and bigmouth strikes again rarely), The Cure, A Flock Of Seagulls,The Cars, Depeche Mode and all the other 80's one hit wonders.
