Review is for the bakery and cooked items. We want roast pork buns and staff pointed to the wrong item. So, we went over to the cooked items where they had dim sum and noodles. Prices were reasonable. Asked staff if they had roast pork bun which they did not. They did have steamed roast pork bun and we got some as well as shu mai and noodles. They will give you containers so you can select what you want. There is also a kiosk stacked with cooked items. Customer checked and wanted heated up ones and went to the counter. Food was okay. It's like Costco but for Asian food. And don't play just because you're vegetarian or vegan there is still SO much you can buy and eat!!!! This review pertains specifically to the bakery. Our plan was to purchase a mango mousse cake from this bakery. Upon arrival, the bakery was unattended, resulting in customer confusion regarding purchases for over twenty minutes. Eventually, a staff member appeared. I requested a mango mousse cake, and was presented with a cake from the display case featuring fruit that look very pathetic and old. The worker did end up replacing all the fruit pieces. The cake's decoration was subpar, and the price had been increased to $43! This is definitely not a cake worth $43. We had previously purchased the same cake years ago, with an unsatisfactory experience. This recent purchase confirmed our prior assessment. This review serves as a reminder to avoid future cake purchases from this bakery. The mango cake was poorly decorated and lacked the expected mango flavor. This was one of the most deceptive meat purchases I've ever made. I bought a package at 99 Ranch Market clearly labeled "Duck Wings." From the outside, it looked like I was getting duck wings for a good price. Once I opened it, I realized the actual wings were only placed on top, while underneath were duck feet, a beak/head portion, and other non-wing parts that were not clearly disclosed. That is not a simple mistake. That is misleading packaging. If you are selling mixed duck parts, label it as mixed duck parts. Do not label the package "Duck Wings" and hide feet and beak pieces underneath where customers cannot reasonably see them before buying. I have no issue with selling duck feet, heads, beaks, or any other parts. The issue is honesty. Customers deserve accurate labels and transparent packaging, not surprise animal parts buried under the product they thought they were buying. This feels like bait-and-switch merchandising, and it seriously damages my trust in this store's meat department. I would strongly caution other customers to inspect every package carefully before buying meat here. What the label says may not be what you actually get. read more

If you want asian food supplies, it seems they have everything you could ever want... even live seafood. So that's cool! Veggies always seem pretty fresh. Tons of Sake. It would be super cool if they would include a few more non-asian basics and snacks, but I get it. Like maybe Toby's? I mean.... it's tofu, sooooo :) I like the housewares section. Haven't tried the prepared food yet, but it all looks amazing. I've only ever found one English speaking employee and they were working the register, so can't really help shop. For Groceries: We shop at this 99 ranch all the time and really enjoy it. We often get sushi ingredients and I love trying various rice seasonings, random ramens, various noodle types, and all the sauces in my cooking. They have an excellent selection of mushrooms. They also have a ton of mochi and fun baked goods. Generally the lines aren't too long, its a good place to shop. For Lunch: We got the self serve hot lunch this weekend finally and it was SO good. It's like $13 or $14 I think and you basically self serve from the hot deli and we got noodles, orange chicken, fish, bbq pork, and the crunchiest most delicious fried chicken. Seriously recommend for a fun off the beaten path lunch date. I came to the store tonight trying to do an Instacart for somebody and I'm telling you what it was like pulling teeth trying to get somebody to show me where things were. I went to customer service to ask him or something was they sent me back to the cashiers in the cashier sent me back to customer service. Nobody wanted to help me then they would tell me where things were, but they wouldn't show me and it was the wrong aisle. It was a fucking absolute nightmare in this store. Reminds me of a Winco but with Asian food. It's large and items are stocked everywhere but so random. At the end of every aisle, both sides, are boxes of products, often that have nothing to do with the aisle they are near. Shopping carts filled with different weekly specials are lined up in front of the store. For me, the randomness made it challenging to find items and enjoy the experience. Plus, the smell of fish hit me when I walked in even though I was wearing a mask. Because it was my first time here and I cook a variety of Korean, Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese and Philippine dishes, I wandered up and down every aisle to get a feel for what they carry and their prices. Some prices are good; some competitive; and others higher than my two favorite Asian Markets, Hong Phat in SE and Uwajimaya in Beaverton. My visit was at 3:30 so unfortunately there was hardly any dim sum available in the serve yourself section. I'll definitely come back during lunchtime to give it a try. The Food Court had whole roasted duck, lots of noodle and rice dishes along with typical Chinese takeout Items. Even mid day, there was a line of people waiting for hot food. Bakery section had lots of soft breads and buns plus some pastries, cookies and cakes. I tried a scallion bun; it was soft and had decent flavor. But no where near as good as spthe buns from the Chinese bakeries on SE 82nd. There were entire aisles dedicated to frozen fish balls of every type, soy and chili sauces, frozen dumplings and dim sum, dried and fresh noodles (egg, rice, mung bean, sweet potato, etc) and snacks. Love walking down the snack aisle and checking out the salty and fishy items. Randomly amongst the shrimp chips are Ferraro Rocher chocolates! Made me chuckle. Of course there is plenty of seafood, all types, including live lobster and prawns. Tons of pork in all forms (pork belly and short ribs my fave), chicken feet (paws), hot dogs and sausage. The produce section was large and prices here are really good. An entire back of bok choy for $1.29 and cabbage for 99 cents. Dragon fruit, frozen Durian, Japanese eggplant, lots of fresh herbs, daikon, radish, leeks - they have it all. My intent was to pick up roasted pork to make pork fried rice, but I couldn't get assistance and lost my patience. Left with some produce and two bakery items and will come back another day, during lunch, so I can try the dim sum. 99 Ranch will never become my regular Asian Market because it doesn't come close to my two faves, but when in the area, I will stop in. read more

My wife and I decided to check this Asian market out based on a friend's recommendation. We were looking forward to the food court. That turned out to be an enormous disappointment. The menu is not user friendly. It isn't clear what you are paying for or what you are getting. I asked the counter help to explain it to me and it turns out that speaking English only is a setback. Only one employee knew some English vocabulary but definitely wasn't conversational in English. So I just grabbed a clamshell container and started putting food on it , figuring I'd just pay whatever they asked. I show my container to the cashier and she told me to grab 3 more small items. Then charged me $16 for it . I was okay with that. Then my wife and I sat down at a dirty table to sample. All the dim som items were barely above room temperature. Definitely far away from a safe and legal holding temperature. My wife tried 2 sma bites of different items and spit them both out . I was hungry and I'm not a picky eater but I couldn't finish any of the 6 different things I had put in my container. The store itself was nice enough. But the food court was terrible. Bad enough that I won't rv consider giving it another try . This place was very unhealthy. A woman getting f in front of me dropped her tray on the floor. The food sat on the floor and everyone had to step over it or walk through it . The food was on the floor when we left about 15 minutes later. Dirty and unsafe . This place is huge! It's a stand-alone store and very easy to find. Their selection is extensive so I'm sure if you're looking for something, you'll definitely find it here. They also have a bakery inside as well as a cafeteria that is self serve. They had your fresh veggies, fruits, drinks, and basically anything you can think up. We already ate so we didn't grab too much here but you could literally get lost here, it's a big place. I would recommend coming here if you want to get your oriental items. Wow so much variety ! This was my first time here and boy was I smitten . So many options and aisles and aisles full of items to explore. I love cooking Asian dishes and this store has ingredients from most of the Asian subcontinent . I got a lot of sauces and condiments and snacks as well as few different variety of noodles/Ramen . The bakery section was so well stocked and had so much variety and same goes for the hot deli. They also have a large and varied selection of fish ranging from live to fresh or frozen and have a frying counter that you can make good use of .Produce was fresh but expensive however I was able to find some things that I can`t find any where else in town easily . The store is not very well organized and if this is your first time it might be a lot of back and forth to locate some ingredients . Also ,language can be a barrier as quite a lot of things don't have English instructions on how to use /cook on the packet I found it a little challenging . Unless you know how you are going to use it , I would suggest first be sure before you buy . I got a pack of peach cakes and when I opened them to eat , found out it was raw dough and had to be baked. 99 Ranch is somewhat far from where I live but worth the trek. The variety in the store is awesome. They are compliant with social distancing and face masks which is nice. The store seems to have a better than average variety than your normal Asian market. On top of that, it has a hot food bar, roasted duck, a dim sum bar, a bakery which has lots of different breads and cakes, live seafood (lobster, dungeons crab, blue crab, oysters, clams, shrimps, and more). The crab there isn't the biggest but it's definitely meaty and something we get often. One other thing is they have an amazing assorted of different ice creams. I'm always walking away with a boba bar box. The other nice thing is the more you spend, the more 99 ranch dollars you get; these dollars are a ticket worth a certain value at the bakery or hot food. Tip: At the time I'm writing this (May 3, 2020), they are not letting you bring in your own grocery bag. They also require you to wear a mask too. I went to 99 Ranch Market yesterday with my family and I was truly amazed at how well organized they were with this pandemic. As we arrived (on a Saturday), they had a line out the door with about 15 people. Sadly, they did not enforce social distancing as I could easily extend my arm and touch the person behind me. However, the line moved fairly quickly. There weren't many individuals inside but you could tell that nobody was there to just browse or kill time. The "Asian Kitchen" area (hot food area) had markers on the ground that told you where to stand. They had their version of Pixelglass in front of the cashier/employees. As you check out, they had every other cash register open and a system in place similar to Fry's Electronics where you wait in line and they'll call you up with a walkie talkie that was taped to a stand. They have a pretty good selection of Asian groceries there. Price is slightly higher than those in SE Portland. It's convenient for those who live in the west side though. They also have a deli and bakery sections. Dim sum were so so but sometimes they're generous on the shrimp paste on top of the tofu. BBQ pork is quite terrible. It's tough and not tasty. Roast duck is quite good though. Very flavorful. Hot food selections are great but you need to be there early to get the good stuff. Here is the reason why I rated it low: You need to check your receipt or watch them scan the items. I want to say 50% of the time the on sale items don't always come up as the sale price. If you are buying things that are on sale, take a picture of the item and the sale price . It'll save you time at the cashier. Coz they have to run back to look for the sale tag. read more

It's as good as it gets here in (greater) Portland. See, I'm originally from NYC but spent 13 years of my life in San Diego, 3 years in Los Angeles, so I'm kinda spoiled by the amount of 99 Ranch Markets down there. After moving to (greater) Portland in early 2019, I had a friend down in Los Angeles run some price comparisons for me across a sample of items that I used to get at 99 Ranch Market locations out there. My friend confirmed that prices down there were indeed cheaper than they were here. In fact, we did the math together and it was discovered that her buying a particular product at her local 99 Ranch, and mailing said product to me in Oregon using USPS, would actually be cheaper than me driving to the 99 Ranch Market here in Beaverton OR let alone buying said product (which was several dollars higher per item than it was at my friend's local 99 Ranch Market in Los Angeles). It wasn't just that item. I wasn't satisfied with just that test data (OR compared to CA's 99 Ranch Markets) so I personally took a trip up to Edmonds WA to check out a 99 Ranch Market over there. Checked the price of butane gas up there at 99 Ranch Market Edmonds WA, $4.99 for 4. Meanwhile in Beaverton OR 99 Ranch Market, price is $5.50 for 4. "But Russ, that's not a fair comparison," you might say. "Washington has a state sales tax on non-grocery items, but in Oregon they don't have sales tax on those kind of things." Sure. But I bring this up because the *core cost of goods to consumers* is just fundamentally higher at the 99 Ranch Market in Beaverton OR than it is up north in Washington or compared to Oregon's southern neighbor, California. This leads me to a personal point of conflict when writing this review. If you asked me to write a review on 99 Ranch Market and this was the ONLY 99 Ranch Market I had ever been to, I would probably have told you this was a 5-star establishment. But compared to the plethora of 99 Ranch Market locations in Southern California and really just California as a whole, this 99 Ranch Market is way way way not the same. So, is 99 Ranch Market Beaverton OR still worth going to? Well, yeah, it's literally the ONLY 99 Ranch Market available in the entire state of Oregon. WA state has 2, California has like 40+ I think. Hell, even Nevada has more 99 Ranch Market locations than Oregon does. But just keep that in mind that when you go to 99 Ranch Market in Beaverton OR, you are probably paying more than you would in other states. ... This is my go to seafood counter for fish. They have a large and varied selection of fish ranging from live Tilapia to fresh/not frozen whole squid. The frozen seafood selection is also larger then most places; I've found baby octopus and alligator meat here. The meat selection is amazing too! Most of it is thinner sliced but they offer beef, lamb, pork, goat, and a variety of fowl. The produce selection is isn't half bad and the pricing is hard to beat. The special feature here is the wide range of hot foods: Dim sum: They have self-serve dim sum. The steamed Shanghai-style jong ($2.50) is good with peanuts, mushrooms, and fatty pork. I recommend taking it home to steam because the rice is not always fully cooked in the center. They also have bags of jong in the refrigerator to the left of the hot foods section, but they are strangely priced a little more (2 for $5 something). This is an exotic grocery store. The grocery store caters to people of Asian decent. You will find all types of items here that are common in Asia but not in a traditional grocery store. The parking lot here is small but there always tend to be an open spot somewhere. They have a bakery with a good selection of pastries. The also have a hot deli with a to go buffet line, dim sum selection, etc. There is a butcher shop and live seafood section. This store definitely has a good alcohol section. Yes! Westside was lacking a Chinese-centric market for awhile. Then Asian Food Center came along, and now 99 Ranch! So excited! Since it is fancy and new, everything is clean and buzzing with employees and shoppers. It's on the smaller side compared with other 99 Ranches I've been to, but for this location I think it fits the bill as a neighborhood market than destination grocery store. Parking is a zoo, I wonder where all the Arby's patrons will park. The deli section is a surprise, so nice to see congee and wonton offered. Dim sum are big and plump. Not sure if made on site though. A little dismayed at the housewares section though, go to HMart or Uwaji for that stuff. read more
