It should not be a surprise, but it's rather huge. My sister and I already had tickets, and all we had to do was show our IDs, get our tickets scan, and we were able to go right in. From the entrance, there are no signs that indicate where the stage is, so you have to walk around a bit, but it's not difficult. The bowling lanes are straight ahead and there's a long bar. They have some cool looking cocktails, and the one that really caught my attention was a peanut butter espresso martini. For the longest, because I was afraid of how much it would be (it actually wasn't too bad), I resisted the urge, but after the concert, I got one and it was delicious, even though it was not jazzed up and looking fancy like a typical espresso martini. They put it in a plastic cup and that was pretty much it haha XD. Anyways, the concert was a blast, and it's awesome that we could literally stand right in front of the stage, no barriers or security with a gap. It was an awesome crowd, and even the some of the artists came into the crowd. Even though it's not the smallest space, that made it feel more intimate and it was a fun experience. The sound was amazing all around too. I haven't been to many concert venues in NYC, but I have no complaints about this one really, though the drink's presentation was a bit of a letdown for me. The space is big with a small stage, bar, and outdoor seating. I hosted the party with 36 attendees and had an amazing time. Street parking was available and easy to find. Vanessa and staff did an amazing job. We had catering set up in the back right, live music onstage, and photographer roaming throughout. I would 100% recommend this venue for party or events.

The people working the event were nice. But the staff for Lavan were kind as well. The front area was very roomy. The band that was playing in the lobby were doing a great job. My adventure out to the Purgatory club was to see the performance of an artist from Japan named…read moreIsiliel. This show was the first of two in the USA with the second being on the West Coast. It would start on the very early side (3PM) so I headed out there via the MTA and while the ride was long, it was more straightforward than I would have first thought. There are currently quite a few clubs for shows like this in Bushwick and Williamsburg but today's adventure was going to be my very first time at Purgatory. Once onsite, I went in to meet with the artists manager since I was going to do some PiercingMetal stuff at the show. The bar part was not yet open but its a nice sized bar with plenty of chairs around it and a couple of smaller lounge areas that I really liked the vibe of. Outside in the front there were a number of small tables and chairs forming a sort of patio space. Their rather remote location probably let's them do this with relative ease and the train is right near them so if you're out there you can watch them go back to the city or deeper into Brooklyn. There was also a photo booth area downstairs if you like that kind of stuff. Upstairs is a small but rather awesome concert/event space. The stage is a tight one and I felt that the room itself would fit about 75 people. Spatially speaking, if you've a three piece of guitars, singer and drums you'd be okay but the kit needs to be small or digital and you need to be mindful of the space you have to share. This might be great for an intimate acoustic event or even a live podcast of some kind. I felt that the lighting was good for the artist I got to see and the sound was solid and a nice surprise. There is an upstairs area reachable by a gated stairwell but I think this is for tech and artists waiting to go on stage. There is also a small bar upstairs and an alcove for artists to sell merchandise. I was there to see an artist from Japan named Isiliel, and this was one of her two US shows. I didn't see any notion of food being served at this place so I apologize if they do and I didn't make note of that. There was an open Wi-Fi signal which let me do some social media between groups. Depending on who the performance is from I'd definitely come here again. I don't know the general area so cannot even determine what other options might be around here but the folks behind Purgatory have really set up a cool spot.

We read some reviews and were happy to know there's a dance floor in the back that's separate from the bar area - gives some variety. They were playing house music in the back with a fog machine. The dance floor would sometimes fill up and then empty out. Overall the vibes were just not it for me. After we entered and walked to the back, a friend said, "It feels like we just walked into a frat party, right?" It was just not the crowd I would expect for Bushwick. But I'm usually in queer spaces so maybe this is normal and I didn't realize. People weren't unkind or anything but it wasn't a space I'd wanna go back to.
