This place is so much fun. Lot of good things here. I would say about half the workers are helpful and the others seem clueless. My biggest gripe is they are very knowledgeable in gaming but do not know comics to well. I have asked about something that is going on and they will have no clue. I have been in line and over heard a customer ask about a comic that was out and the worker had no clue what he was talking about , I had to chime in and give the customer the info he needed. I love the place but that is what bugs me, it is a comic shop after all. I also don't like how certain Variants that are not made to be 1:10 1:20 etc ratio but more like 1:1 get jacked up in price just because it says variant on the cover. The store's merchandising standard needs help as you can easily get lost looking for what you want but that's beside the point. I went in to the store to purchase a box of magic cards, which ya I could have got cheaper online but I wanted it now. I am sure you know that feeling! After waiting forever, because they were busy, I finally got my box and stood in line. My biggest issue was this. Two parents were in line behind me with their little girl. Both parents were gamers. The mom was fighting with the little girl because she was hungry... apparently she didn't want to eat her tuna sandwhich. Honestly let's be better parents and get your kid something they would eat. Hell I almost wanted to offer to buy her a happy meal. The store manager walks up with some candy. It would have been really cool if he was like here, she can have this on the house. Instead he said your little girl broke this and now you need to pay for it. I can't sell a broken candy stick. It was some japanese solid candy stick in a wrapper. Honestly I know retail enough to say that it gets broken in shipping all the time. Anyways the Mom get's pissed that she has to buy it and told her daughter who really wanted it that I'm buying it and I am going to eat it. You broke it so you can't have any. Seriously bad parenting skills but it wasn't my place to say anything. The parents who horrible and should learn to raise their kids better. The store manager was a jerk and shouldn't have made them buy the candy. I mean he went out of his way to come over and make them buy it. How about you man the 2nd register and help the line move faster. read more

A-1 Comics in Sacramento is my favorite comicbook store in California. This is their other location in Roseville. It's not quite as large as the one in Sacramento, and seemed more focused on cards then comicbooks but it still has a wider selection of comics and graphic novels then most stores. I think they have more card tournaments at this location, they have card tables set up in a large portion of the store. You can check out their website for more detials. They have a large selection of comics, figurines and collectiables although the layout is a little more cramped and this store is smaller then one the one in Sacramento. I also liked the Japanese candy and anime. And this shop did have a take home and create and paint comicbook related art kits too. There were items at this location they didn't have at the other store. Another great thing about A-1 is that they list what new comics they got in every week on their website. Don't forget to sign up for their mailer too, which will let you know about future sales and events. They also have a spiderman lifesize statue at this location. So if you're in the area this is a great place to get comic fix. read more

it's been quite some time since i've been to this location. back in the day, friendly staff, etc. i liked it. yesterday, cruised in there around noon. i was (no exaggeration) the only customer in the whole place. three guys behind the counter ... not one of them even said hello to me. they were far more interested in the anime that was on the tv. i even walked right by the counter to see what they would do. didn't even look up. i get they're just young kids, etc ... but customer service should be customer service. i might go back ... i might go elsewhere .... read more

I have shopped at this A-1 Comics location many times over the past 3 years, and now will not return. The employees are extremely rude and elitist. It is nearly impossible to get assistance in this store, and if you do happen to get one of the employees to look up at you, they will huff under their breath because they now actually have to do "work." Forget about asking a general question about a product they are carrying, you will be treated like you are stupid. I am done being treated like I'm a burden. I do plan to still shop at the Sacramento location because they are actually nice. read more

Huge selection, knowledgeable staff, very friendly and also received military discount. I visited both locations today November 2017, and I was able to find a Bowen statue at the second location that I been wanting for a while. Very happy with A-1. I'm new to Sacramento and I'm glad I found them. read more

I walked in at like 9:15 walk straight to the new releases and there it is, also I'm a few issues behind and the recent ones are all there too! OMG organization! Beautiful. So there was like this card tournament going on when I was there and there were these guys trying to sell their cards to the cashier, so I'm waiting in line patiently and the guy goes "can I finish with you guys in a min, so I can help her? I know she's waiting in line." Perfect. How on top of things are you? Also how cute are you?? They hired you to get more girls in there didn't they? This is for the A1 Comics in Roseville: Plus: Large store and inventory with good lighting. Minuses: HORRIBLE customer service. The employees are very young adults who spend their time talking to friends. My first trip there went like this: there were numerous employees unengaged from anything and no one could find the time to greet us. The worst was when I went up to the counter, one person was fiddling with the register while another employee was chatting with him. They intentionally didn't look up, recognize me, or say anything. I stood there for literally 3 minutes in silence. A third employee came over and didn't say anything and I just handed her my card. When it was done she asked if we would like a bag and just handed us the bag rather than putting the comic in the bag. The receipt also took a long time printing which was fine but we had NO idea why it was taking so long, she didn't say "it will be one moment for the receipt." or anything like that. Honestly they need to hire people who treat it like a place of business rather than like a fun place to chat with friends. Needs more professionalism and respect. read more

The guys running this joke of a store are terrible. On multiple occasions they've opened late and closed early to the point that I either sat in my car until they realized on their own that they were open or I knocked until they realized that the guy knocking on the door wasn't their imagination; or--in the case of an early closing--their actual closing time rolls around and they shrug their shoulders like they just couldn't help themselves. Once you get inside, they're incredible at not offering any assistance whatsoever. You could be the only customer wandering around--I usually am when I'm there--in search of something specific and they will never offer to help. Ever. Not once. You could go up an ask them if they carry something specific and that guy will ask another guy and then another guy and not one of them will make a move to personally help you out because they believe moving an inch to find something would be a sign of weakness. I guess they don't get paid any differently if they help vs not help. Maybe there's some wisdom there. Pathetic inventory awareness and a dense sense of customer service make this my least favorite comic/game shop. read more

I'm glad they're in Roseville. They have a pretty decent selection of graphic novels and manga. Of course, not always new releases you'd probably have to go to SF and Kinokuniya for newest releases of mange. Still, it's a cool place to talk and meet fellow geeks or gamers, which I'm considered both btw. read more

Large selection, lots of games, decent size gaming area and some cool random nerd trinkets. This is a great place if u want to browse and be left alone. I haven't had many interactions with the staff besides them asking if I need any help but as of yet I have not. No major complaints besides them not having a ton of older indie trades but that's no biggie. read more

This comic shop is my go to for buying comics. Love the atmosphere and the location. Most of the employees are very nice there. As with any establishment there are a few bad eggs . But, other than that I love coming here and giving them my business. I highly recommend this location of a1 comics. The other location is in a seedy area but the owners are alright there. A-1 is without a doubt my preferred comic shop in the area. Clean, well organized, and generally not as haphazard as many comic shops seem to be. Along the single issue wall, the newest titles are usually marked for easy identification, but even better is the excellently run saver system, which ensures all of your titles are set aside for you. The selection of graphic novels and trade paperbacks is impressive, especially those from outside the Big Two, and there is something to cater to almost any subset of nerdom. There are sizable subsections devoted to card gamers, RPG players, and anime enthusiasts, as well as an assortment of collectibles ranging from your standard action figures to the newest high-end statues from Sideshow or Bowen. The staff is very likable and personable, easy to talk to whether you're looking for an out of print trade paperback or discussing which Black Lantern you'd rather have your brains eaten by (Zombie Superman or Zombie Martian Manhunter? Oh the indecision!) Novice and hardcore geek are both treated with equal respect. As with my beloved Chipotle, the only real issue is the relatively small parking lot, though this only tends to be a problem in the evening when groups of gamers arrive to make use of the store's large gaming area. Overall, a great place to pick up your comic fix of choice, geek out for a bit, or drag your wife just for kicks. read more

They used to be chill but got corporate AF. After coming in for their sale today and amassing a very large pile. I was told only certain comics applied for the 50% off sale. I asked why it doesn't state that on the text and email you guys send out. They said it does, and after showing them (I will be happy to send a screen shot to anyone who asks) the text message from them(A-1) that very clearly states ALL bin comics are 50% off, they gave me a very half assed corporate excuse as to why they couldn't honor their posted deal. "Well those comics don't count because there not supposed to be there normally" then why the fuck would you put them in a bin along with the rest on a sale day? No extra signage informed me of the rule you guys just decided to make up on the spot. Drove all the way up from the bay cause y'all used to be the comic shop I would tell my homies about. You used to be down to earth and for the nerd but y'all sold out. Won't be back. read more

I go to the store fairly often with my 8-year old to play cards or miniatures. I enjoy the staff and most are friendly and helpful. What I would like to see is some healthy choices for snacks to somewhat promote a healthier lifestyle as most gamers seem to be wanting to go the diabetes route. read more

I've been to a lot of comic book stores that look mostly empty most of the time and have a pretty small selection. They're depressing to walk into and often don't have what you're looking for. A-1 is nothing like that. It's my favorite comic book store without a doubt. It has a huge selection of all the nerdy stuff I like and it always has other people there as well. It's got a very nice selection of German board games and a lot of manga as well. Their wall of new comics is huge and their paperback selection is also impressive. They also have boxes and boxes of older comics, all alphabetized and well organized. It's also fun just to wander around the store and check out the models, figurines, and toys. I go just about every time I visit my parents and usually walk away with something fun. read more

The only show in town. Mostly, anyway. I've been going to A1 for over 20 years now. They have the largest inventory in the area, and prices are...fair. The current location has the worst parking lot in the western hemisphere, and the current staff is hit or miss as far as customer service goes.
