The highlight of my week was meeting Jeffrey and getting my laptop repaired. He did such a fantastic job and quickly, at an incredibly fair price. I have read the one star reviews (which are very few compared to his glowing reviews, btw) and I think some people just have a sense of entitlement to how they think customer service or presentation should be in places where they don't set the rules. They are probably written by the same people that question seating policies in restaurants that have been in business since before they were born. Bottom line is, Jeffrey knows his stuff and he is a character. When you are an expert in something, why waste time explaining your decades of knowledge to someone when you can just cut the fat? (He does explain, btw, but I think most people can't keep up with his knowledge) He asks direct questions because he is trying to quickly and concisely determine what is NOT the issue so he can better diagnose the solution. I wish more people talked like he does. And to anyone that criticized his office, you have probably never been in a workshop before. No frills, no BS, no reason to fluff it up just to make you feel something. It's engineering. I looked at other places nearby with flashy photographs of celebrities next to them and awards on the walls and the prices they charged... Most likely you would be charged like a celebrity and put on a wait list and asked to return later in the week, if at all. I'd much rather go to the genius in his workshop who isn't concerned with such meaningless aesthetics any day. Jeff at A-1 Computer is an upstanding and truly generous gentleman. I left a voicemail in regards to copying a folder onto a flash drive. Other businesses on Yelp requested $125 to $185 per hour to help me out. Jeff not only didn't request a fee, he just told me how to easily place the folder on the thumb drive while replying via phone to my voicemail. It was totally unexpected and unbelievably thoughtful on his part. Not one other computer business owner offered that the task was undeniably simple. If they didn't provide the service, they mentioned a fee that was almost extortion. I am so glad that Jeff responded to my call for help. Came in today asking for a printer repair. Not only was the owner super rude, he was incredibly condescending. He had told me that the printer was dead either because of an electrical shock, or that the cartridge was blocked because the printer was idle. I knew for sure the cartridges were not blocked because the printer stopped working PRIOR to sitting idle and I even replaced them right then and there. When I told him that, he literally asked me "Why is it such that when I ask you how long you left it idle you can't give me a straight answer?" Word for word. Seriously, who talks to their customers like that? I get annoyed and I leave, and he goes, "what you don't believe me?" and proceeds to go on a condescending rant about how I'm better off buying a new printer than repairing this one in front of another customer. Look, I'm not saying his advice is wrong. Yes, I'm going to buy a new printer, but his delivery is so downright unprofessional and rude. Just don't bother with this place. read more

I should've written this review many months ago because that's when we used A-1. Jefferey had come out to do a service call for our business computer. It turned out to be such a simple thing, yet he took the time to go through the process with us. He never made us feel inadequate in our lack of computer literacy. Because of this first experience we called him again months later when one of our laptops quit working. Since this second time was less urgent & more complex, we left the laptop with him. He got it up & running, finishing it in the time he had said he needed & charging exactly what he had quoted. He has saved our business day & revived our laptop. Plus, his prices are fair. This guy. The only reason I put one star instead of none is because 1. I can't put 0 stars. 2. he had a little bit of humor. He was so rude though as many other people have said. Unprofessional and doesn't know a single thing about new gaming PCs. The office Is just a small room and it looks like it hasn't changed since the 90s. Hasn't been cleaned since then either. Came to this guy with a damaged laptop key. He almost instantly decided I needed to have the entire keyboard ripped out and started trying to order parts off the Internet all while cursing and grumbling to himself. Extremely rude and giving off a slightly "Doc Brown but with a fraction of the knowledge" vibe, he was also a full on jerk during a follow up call. Surprise, when I took the computer for a second opinion to another shop, they were able to fix it for a fraction of the amount this guy was going to charge me ($25 vs. $200) and with no long wait or intensive labor. Not sure if he was trying to upsell me or he's just an idiot, but run, do not walk, somewhere else if you need repairs done in NoHo. read more

I have only the highest praise, for this establishment. I was looking for my first computer and Jeff the owner,went outta his way and looked online for the best bargin. He gave me his recommendation, and I bought a new laptop and printer. I had him load all the necessary programs into my computer.It has worked flawlessly for over 1 year. I found A-1 through a yelp search. I had a problem with an old desktop. It kept randomly turning on and off, often just a few minutes after being on. I needed to upgrade to a new desktop (the old was is an HP Pavilion a810n from 2004), and did buy a new desktop, but was having trouble having the old one stay on long enough to transfer my files to the new computer. I spoke with Jeff over the phone. Based on the symptoms I described to him, he gave me his opinion as to what the causes might be. I took the unit in. After chatting a little bit and giving him more information about what was going on, he clearly laid out the cost based on the severity of the problems he may encounter. He advised me to leave the unit, so he could do diagnostics on it and come back in 40 mins. I grabbed some lunch and came back. He told me the issue was a failing power supply. He put in a reconditioned power supply. The total cost for labor, the part, and his time was only $45! He also spent a lot of time answering my questions about data transfer and other questions I had. Jeff was very patient in listening to my questions and problems, and providing no-nonsense answers. He's gets right to the point and will pepper you with questions to determine exactly what is the problem you're experiencing. He's a straight shooter and a mensch. God, I wish there were more professionals like him in the world! Also, don't be put-off or mislead by his office -- it's small, but his service is impeccable! I'm giving him 5 stars -- he hit a home run on all levels of customer service. I don't know if he works on MACs or not, you can call and ask. For PC owners, I heartily recommend him! read more

5 stars for Jeff. This is the guy you want digging through your hardware. No pun intended. Truthfully he should get 6 out of 5 stars because this guy is pretty damn special. He will easily fix your computer at a fair and honest rate, which as a repair guy is the gold standard of work ethic in my book. He fixed my laptop that had a failed HD, gave me an operating system upgrade and took the necessary time to do it right. He guarantee's his work. He will also regal you, if you want, with stories of LA back in the 1980's from the celebrities whom he waited on to his brief time as a chippendale, to his multiple brushes with death doing recon in SE Asia and his experience surviving cancer. My laptop keyboard went on the fritz, making typing impossible. Best Buy wanted to charge me $300 bucks just to DIAGNOSE the problem. And it would take 10 days. I called Jeffrey based on his Yelp reviews. He diagnosed the problem, offered to order me a new keyboard and install it into my laptop (which on my Asus is no small task) all for $150. When the part arrived he made all the repairs in less than a day. The following week, when I noticed my new space bar key was sticking, I brought it back to Jeffrey and he fixed the key for no additional charge. Now my laptop is back to working good as new. This is the absolute best place to take your computer. The owner is so knowledgeable, down to earth, and friendly. He really hooked me up with the best deal I could find on a DC jack repair. I've been the user of excellent technology staff support while with top tier IT consulting firms. Being so spoiled, I was nervous about going to a public support shop for my personal needs. Well, not only was A-1 just as good, A-1 was better. I tried to diagnose issues via the Microsoft and Toshiba support forums and there were no answers.
