So far so good. We'll see as time goes by. We rented a 10x10 and if the rent goes up to quickly, we'll be moving out. We hope not.

Beware of deceptive pricing and unprofessional customer service! I moved to San Jose in February 2025 and chose A-1 Storage based on what appeared to be a fair $75/month rate after providing proof of insurance. I was told I'd receive a $14 credit on my next bill. Instead, in March, I was charged a $14 "Customer Protection Plan" fee. When I flagged it, the manager (Luis) falsely claimed I hadn't submitted insurance--even though I had. On move-in day, the front desk had already called me in twice to fix paperwork they had initially overlooked. I stayed patient, but this level of disorganization around contracts and billing is unacceptable and clearly reflects poor employee training and internal processes. I only received my $28 refund after escalating the issue in April. Then in June - just four months later - I was notified that my rent would jump to $90/month. When I called for clarification, Luis was rude, interrupted me repeatedly, and claimed rate hikes happen 2-3 times a year. He even had the nerve to say he "did me a favor" by refunding money that was never theirs to keep. He kept brushing off my concerns, saying "it's only $15" - completely missing the real issue: deceptive pricing, poor communication, and a complete lack of accountability. To make matters worse, their own Yelp FAQ says rate increases "may/may not" occur every 6 months - but mine came after just four. Luis then told me I was "getting a deal" because the same unit now goes for $138/month. That's not my problem - I signed up during a non-peak period under completely different terms. This is textbook bait-and-switch: attract customers with a low rate, then spike prices once they're locked in. Bottom line: A-1 Storage operates with hidden fees, misleading policies, and dismissive management. Save yourself the hassle - take your business elsewhere. read more

horribly unprofessional, and in my experience, their insurance is a scam. highly recommend getting your own insurance, or, better yet, using a different facility. my unit was on the second floor. when i moved in, the lift was broken. when i moved out, the lift was broken and i had to pay movers extra for having to use the stairs. any time i needed access help or had a question, the manager luis was "out of town" and all of the representatives were out of office on their 2+ hour lunch. there was damage to brand new outdoor furniture in my unit. a visible hole was in the ceiling where antifreeze or some other chemical came through the ceiling and into my unit. i let them know right away, and filed a claim. they concluded they were not responsible for the damage to my property, despite the immediate report and photo evidence of the hole in the ceiling and the damage to my brand new furniture. i provided receipts for the furniture. however, A1 refused to take responsibility. when i asked to have the case reviewed, all of my emails were completely ignored. i never heard back from them again. i found the conduct of the staff to be super rude and super unprofessional, and i don't recommend this place to anyone. read more

We have rented here for last 6+ years. Always been happy with clean facilities and good customer service. Lately, there have been no trolleys. I have gone up and down on every floor with no success. One time, I found one on the other end of building. Next time, I walked to office and someone got 2 trolleys from other side. Today same thing. When I called office, I was told he was busy with another customer and they have 20 trolleys, and I can walk around in wind and rain and find my own. Really? Should it be the responsibility of management to make sure there are trolleys available at each of the 3 or 4 elevators? I would really appreciate if each of the renters is requested / warned in writing that they have to bring trolleys down. And also for management to walk around few times a day and ensure that each building is well equipped. Kindly pay attention. read more

The staff was very helpful, and patient, when I called looking for a storage unit. I didn't know anything about renting a unit, like what size, costs, accessibility, etc.. My brother rented a space here a year ago. They have clean hallways and it was easy to find carts for loading stuff up. Elevators were large and moved at an average pace. You need to remember to code in before you go in even if the gate is open. Otherwise you can't get out. read more

The staff kindly explained that I needed a special round key and showed me what it looked like. They also gave the card of a less expensive locksmith. When we arrived, we were greeted by Louis and he already had our paperwork ready to go. He explained everything to us and walked us through the facility to our unit and showed us how to use everything. After moving in most of my items the following day, we realized that we needed more room. We walked into the office and Louis remembered us right away and said there was no problem of being able to upgrade to a larger unit. The entire process went very smooth and very personal. Recently I moved from Public Storage to A-1 Self Storage. I am astounded at the differences and am kicking myself for not moving here months ago. I am paying less than I did at Public Storage and I have a larger unit. Instead of plywood walls that stop 2-3 feet before the ceiling I am in a unit with cinder block walls that reach all the way to the ceiling. Instead of a small door at one end of a long unit, I have a nice sized roll up door that access the unit from the middle of one of the long sides. This makes accessing my property much easier. To top it off the staff is kind and very helpful. If you are in the market for self storage your search is over. You won't regret choosing A-1 Self Storage. read more

I like most clients used they're wonderful facility temporarily. Just last week I was in a major bind and needed a fax machine since I don't have one. Living in the Bay Area with family means storing away my currently unused belongings into store. The staff here was very nice when I arrived and extremely prompt with responses when I made the reservation. They immediately gave me a small tour to the unit and gave me details about how the security works for the property. Conveniently located nearby my primary residence and street parking is easy to find since they only have about 5 off-street parking spots (but I doubt they'll all be full at the same time).
