One of the biggest things that stood out to me was the 12-month rate guarantee, which gave me a lot more peace of mind. We just moved out of our unit at Extra Space Storage, and I'm appalled by how we were treated…read more Shortly after leaving, the manager called to accuse our movers of stealing a dolly. We were shocked -- our movers are professionals we've worked with before and trust. We immediately checked their truck, spoke with each mover individually, and confirmed that they did not have the dolly. We told the manager this, but instead of listening, he threatened to charge us $1,000 to replace it. Wanting to resolve the issue and see the proof he claimed to have, we drove all the way back to the facility. Once there, he told us he had "tape" showing the movers taking the dolly but that it had already been returned after speaking with the movers. Oh and he wasn't "allowed" to show it to us. Except -- that was a lie. We called the moving company as soon as we left, and they told us no one from Extra Space had contacted them at all. They had no idea what we were talking about. So not only were we falsely accused and threatened, but we were actively lied to. This was an incredibly unprofessional, stressful, and disappointing experience. We upheld our end of the agreement, kept the unit clean, and returned everything that belonged to the facility. In return, we were treated with suspicion, dishonesty, and threats. Do better, Extra Space.

There are concerning discrepancies between the advertisements and the actual facility. It is not…read moreclimate controlled. There are no locks on the doors to the buildings. You don't get a refund on the lock and they won't tell you which lock you need if you sign up online. But there's a lock drop box so why did they put that there? There's been break ins there, easy to see how... the fence is not very tall, and it's on a hill so it would be really easy for someone to just hop the fence from above. Worst of all, I came to get some stuff out and there were rat droppings in the hallway and the whole place smelled like rat urine. That can literally kill someone. Add that to the stale, hot air in the summer and it's a recipe for disaster. They send harassing texts and emails if you're on the property for literally a minute past 9pm but then they don't respond to concerns about rodent feces, no empathy for people who are sickened by their willful neglect. Did I mention the floors in the upstairs feel like there going to fall through. Oh and there's no elevator but the website also said that there is. They raise the rent after 3 months.... By a lot. It's not good, it's bad. All around bad. Rat piss and heatstroke are a bad combo.

The rental managers have consistently demonstrated exceptional politeness, helpfulness, and a welcoming attitude. The newer facility ensures a clean and well-maintained environment. Additionally, the indoor setting is nice if it happens to be raining. Parking has always been hassle-free, and carts are readily available for transporting our items into the unit. The convenient operating hours (6:00 AM to 10:00 PM) allow ample time for after work visits As an individual with mobility challenges, the elevators have proven to be a valuable feature. We have found that SecureSpace Storage has been transparent and fair in its pricing practices for the most part. Initially, we rented a 10x10 unit in December 2024, but our son moved home and a larger 10x20 unit was needed. The rental team promptly transferred our initial discount to the new unit, and our half-off offer remained in effect for the first two months as agreed upon. In the third month, the regular rate became applicable, but this was consistent with our prior understanding, eliminating any surprises. After four months, SecureSpace Storage informed us of a $150 increase in our rate. This unexpected change surprised us, as our experience in the Bay Area suggests that rate hikes are common after a year and typically ranged from 25% to 30%. At the time, our monthly rate was $253, making the $150 increase approximately 60%, which was a bit steep. Despite this, we decided to go ahead and pay it due to our positive experience and satisfaction with the unit. We also didn't want to take the time and effort in searching for an alternative storage facility, relocating our belongings, etc. In November, we received an email informing us that our rental rate would be increasing by 25%, resulting in a monthly increase from $403 to $503. I have started comparing our pricing to other units in the vicinity. I have identified some units where the non-discounted rents range from the high $200s to the mid $300s, and these units are comparable to ours (indoor units, elevators, roll-up doors, etc.). Interestingly, the most expensive non-discounted rate for a 10x20 unit is $351 on the SecureSpace website, $150 less than our rate increase price. At this juncture, I believe the most prudent course of action for my family is to hire someone to help us in clearing out our garage and attic, so we can store our belongings ourselves and thereby save money in the long term. Yes, I could talk to one of the managers about pricing options, but I'm not sure they'd be willing to drop us down to $351, which is what we'd ask for. I'm also concerned they'd raise the price up again after 2+ months, but I'd need to review my contract with them to make sure what their policies are. So to sum it up: For the good customer service, facility cleanliness, and convenience + 5 Stars. For the pricing/rate increases: - 2 Stars Total Review: 3 stars. If you're looking for a good facility to rent from, I would recommend Secure Space. Just be certain to ask about their rate increase policy, including frequency and percentages so you go in as an informed consumer. Very clean, well lit, easily accessible, and huge bays for loading/unloading. Once I told the manager, Kevin, what I was looking for in a space, he took me right to one that was perfect! The only thing I was nervous about, were the electronic lock systems on the units. Turns out, that's one of my favorite things now! Makes life SO much easier! The fact that the facility is climate controlled is a huge plus for me as well. The process of signing up was easy, the price was indeed better than local competitors, the app is great, and access is a piece of cake. Our belongings were deliver on MLK day. Even on a holiday, we could talk with a lovely representative at customer service who assured us there would be no issues. There weren't!! The app works wonderfully. Plenty of room for the moving van. Roomy parking spaces so you can get things in and out of personal vehicles without challenges. Rates are great! We even have the option to downgrade our unit as we empty more of the contents. Highly recommend Trojan Storage!!
