The security was decent, there was plenty of space, and the temperature was controlled to a comfortable level. It was worth the slight premium. It was a bit annoying that access wasn't 24/7 considering how much we paid, but I could overlook that. Then, prices started increasing every few months. I understand that the entire industry does this, but it seemed excessive. Then, they began construction on the second floor. The noise, dust, and inconvenience were bothersome, and there was no compensation. Thankfully, I wasn't forced to move on my own dime like others. One day, I came to start unpacking and noticed a section of our belongings that had water damage. Initially, I thought it was caused by a leaking pipe, but upon closer inspection, water was flowing down from the second floor, rolling along the I beams and dripping onto our stuff for who knows how long and how much. All attempts to resolve the issue ended with the company stating that since I didn't use their insurance, they couldn't offer any compensation, replacement, or rental refund. This seems unreasonable and goes beyond the terms of the contract that absolves them from liability. Either the roof, second floor, or both were not properly constructed, allowing water to flow along the I beams. You can see rusted water drop marks on multiple I beams. These beams are completely exposed and there's nothing installed to protect the storage units from water or debris from the second floor. Since they were aware of the issue from the review I mentioned earlier and didn't take any action, it appears to be gross negligence. I also highly doubt that they would even consider addressing the real issue and refunding partial rent if we had their insurance. Regardless of whether we have insurance or not, the website guaranteed dryness and a storage satisfaction guarantee. If you decide to stay here, make it a short stay, cover your belongings completely, and request a different unit if you have any beams or pipes above your unit. And pray that nothing else goes wrong.

I always paid on time and sometimes even paid a month in advance. This month I encountered some financial hardship and I was a week late on my payment. The lady "Diane" who took my payment over the phone said she could not waive the first and only late fee of $30. I've spent maybe a little over a couple thousand dollars in their facility and again, never had I been late on my monthly payment. I was happy there, but for the sole reason of the unwillingness and lack of sympathy to waive the outrageous $30 fee to a loyal patron I put a cancel on my future business with golden state storage and will take my business elsewhere.

Wanna bring your dog in, fine. Don't interrupt a customer. - claimed she didn't know how to use the software to return a local rental (the unused mileage refund). - called two different people for 'help'. - could not pin down the difference in what I was charged versus what I should have been charged. - couldn't explain how I was going to get the deposit back. - produced another receipt showing a charge for the correct mileage, without the deposit. - when I showed her the two receipts for the original charge w/deposit and the new charge w/o deposit, she said I'd get it back... "I swear to God". I asked for some paper showing that and "it's like magic" came rolling out of her facehole, with a corresponding fluttering hand wave in the air. - after I called the LA district manager, on speaker, I was frequently interrupted by Sue Latta, making the phone call very difficult. - the district manager finally explained that the first charge was actually a hold. With two receipts for the two charges in hand, I had to explain that if I was overcharged, I would get my money back legally. - on my way out, I told Sue Latta "Learn your job." When she claimed she knew it, I reminded her that she told me she didn't know what she was doing. Sue Latta then told me I wasn't welcome back there, and thank God, I have no plans on doing so. However, Ty (Melton?) is great. Professional, polite, doesn't interrupt, and handled my previous Penske rental in a manner that should be the example for all Penske employees, especially Sue Latta. If you go to Channel Islands Self Storage, please do yourself a favor and don't deal with Sue Latta. Go straight to Ty.

My husband and I got help from family six loaders in total, that traveled 2 and 5 hours Friday (8/30/19) to help us load it up early morning. When my husband shows up to pick it up, they told him that "sorry they didn't receive the truck for us from LA" that they tried calling us to let us know they were not going to have a truck available for us but we didn't answer our phones???? Nobody from here left a message sent a text or an email to let us know??? I feel that was pretty messed up and unprofessional! So we had to call Uhual and other companies that same Saturday morning and of course cause it was last minute and Labor Day weekend and most people moving to new places for the first of the month. Nobody had a truck available. So now we're stuck with a handful of helpers and absolutely no truck. Have to pay for extra days to live in our current unit as well. Then tried to reschedule a new reservation and the price has went up from $539.10 to over $900.00.
