When our 8-year-old 65" plasma finally gave out, my kid was thrilled. He spent a few hours researching replacements and landed on the LG C Series. It had great reviews, an amazing picture, and was "only" $1900 for a 65". Tempting. Before dropping that kind of cash, I figured it wouldn't hurt to see if the old plasma could be salvaged. That's when I found this place. A few hundred dollars later, and the TV is working like new. I have used A1 TV and electronics Inc twice and I have met the owner Dan on both occasions. I do not recommend A1 TV and electronics Inc because of the owner Dan. Dan fixed a preamp which lost one channel which is a very simple issues but charged me $325.00. $200.00 of that was just to look at it. That was more than the preamp was worth. I wasn't really happy with what he had done but I didn't know of anyone else to take my high end Parasound amplifier to which had an intermittent problem. Admittedly diagnosis of an intermittent issue can be difficult. Dan charged me $289 to Dx it. He sat it in his back room and listened to it click on and off for hours while working on other stuff then called me to tell me he couldn't Dx it but kept all my money. I took the same unit to another place down in Portland that repair shop I would recommend. That guy looked at it for 2 to 3 hours and then because he couldn't fix it he didn't charge me. I call that Integrity. Dan possesses no Integrity in fact Dan seems to hate what he does for a living and seems to hate his customers. Dan is extremely condescending, you feel it the second he opens his mouth and talks down to you. Example: I asked him a question while I was there one day about what his hours were on a certain day and he actually came behind his desk walked me outside and then pointed at the hours on the door. Wow! Dan did that instead of just telling me. That's Dan in a nutshell - a condescending prick who hates what he does and hates his customers and will charge you when he has no ability or intention of fixing your electronics. I am rating this review based on 2 experiences here I have had. First off I am giving A-1 Tech Repair 5 stars for the 1st visit which I had back in October 2023, 2 years ago that went well. I was so glad to have finally gotten answers for the Sony CD player I have not been able to play for 5 years. And other CD players going all the way back 12 years before. It didn't the 1st time cost any more than $55 or $60 to get the player checked out of why the electronic scan was not reading any tracks every time I put a disc in there and put the power on. All I got was this squeeky, slippery noise. I clearly did not ever get any help in that time from these unhelpful manufacturer's customer service over the phone. Yet the A-1 repairman looked below the surface of the inside of the CD player and found that the lens was all covered up with dust that had all piled up. And did a terrific job cleaning it all up getting the player to once more play my CD's. The 2nd review I am giving is 1 star for the last time I came to A-! Repair regarding this Victrola Eastwood Signiture turntable. I had dropped it off on May 19th early afternoon. Just to do a diagnostic on it I was charged far more than for the CD player. A full $80. I was really lucky that the repairman this time waved the ever obnoxious and unfair sales tax which would have added $6 for limited income customers as myself to pay. The concern this time was of why the 33rd RPM speed was playing the albums way too slow and wobbly. I'd thought things would work out as good as the CD player. Instead I was called up on Tuesday morning, May 27 and told that it came down to the player having a bad motor caused by 3 1/2 years of wear and tear. And that also the belt drive on the inside was too far down which needed too much time to adjust. I was awfully frustrated at why I had to pick the turntable up the next day before 1 pm just for their 'pick up time'. That was not the case 2 years earlier when I was able to take the CD player home late on a Thursday afternoon. I was counting on at least being able to play some of my 45's on that record player the following Friday. Since the 45 RPM was still playing perfectly. Instead when I turned the turntable on, the spinner was not even spinning anymore. It was not in worse condition than it was before I took it in and spent $80 just to have it looked over. This was $80 I could have used to buy a brand new Ion phonograph at Retails Thrift Store I had seen the day before for $49.95. And a small stereo receiver for 39.95. I have not nothing to play my vinyl on the last 3 weeks. All I have is this Victrola cassette player. If I had only known ahead of time not to come here for turntables. I am sure this repair shop most of the time does good work, and will continue doing good work. This is just my one personal experience that didn't go well. SCAMMERS AND THIEVES! I took my pioneer receiver in for diagnosis and repair. Paid $80 to drop off (required) and have it looked at. They called back a couple days later and said they couldn't figure out what was wrong even though when I dropped it off I told them that the front had been smacked. I could hear a broken piece rattling around inside when it was tipped. They wanted an additional $3-400 more to really "spend some time" to find the problem. I said no. Picked it up, took it apart at home. Found the broken part in 30minutes. I could tell as I disassembled it that it had NEVER BEEN taken apart and looked at. These guys are scammers. Don't waste your money or time with these fake repairmen. I would give them -5 stars if I could. read more

I didn't even know if there were still tv repair stores out there! Recently after a move my flatscreen tv wouldn't turn on. I looked on Yelp for tv repair stores and found A-1. I left a voice message, they called me back in a timely manner. I dropped my set off and two days later they called me that it was ready. They re-programmed the remote, put in new batteries and checked out the electrical panel. All for less than $65. Got it back in time to watch Thanksgiving weekend programs. read more

Our 6 year old 70" Sharp Aquios suffered from a power surge after a power outage. We called Best Buy Geek Squad and they refused to help as the TV was out of warranty. Told us to just buy a new TV. It's a great TV and doesn't deserve the landfill, so we found A-1 on Yelp. Dan asked a lot of questions and gave me his thoughts over the phone, and with full disclosure, mentioned pitfalls that may occur. We decided to go for it! The repair cost was below (but near) the cost of some of these newer TVs, but we feel good keeping ours out of the landfill. Besides, the newer TVs are actually MADE TO FAIL IN 2-3 YEARS. I happened to choose this repair store off of the Internet and gave them a try. I am so glad I did. Dan was awesome. He was very honest with me upfront with pricing. It didn't cost me one penny more than what he said it would and he didn't even know what was wrong with it when he began working on it. The job was completed in a timely manner and in fact, he finished sooner than anticipated. I was also intrigued with the store itself. Two years after purchasing our television, it stopped producing a picture. We contacted A-1 TV Repair late on a Friday night and someone answered the phone right away. They said to bring it in Saturday and they will check it out. It took a long time to diagnose the problem but they were able to order the part and fix our television. The cost was reasonable and we were given a loaner TV (not sure if that's normal but it took close to 2 weeks for diagnosis and repair so I think they felt sorry for us). 5 stars because they are open on Saturdays, your deposit goes toward your end total, reasonable price, easy to contact via phone anytime day or night and ALWAYS courteous and helpful. The sound went out in one of the channels of my Technics 1200 turntable. I was looking for an electronics repair shop in town so I didn't have to take it across the bridge to Portland. I found A-1 through a Google search and called them up. I talked to Dan. Had a really good experience. The fix took about a week. Dan called me multiple times to let me know the status of things. The issue ended up being a quirky one and he told me that if the sound went out again that he would credit some of what I spent for the repair towards additional work, if needed. I thought that was pretty cool. Saw him in the store a couple times on the phone and talking to customers. Seems to have a good rapport with his customers and genuinely cares about fixing things. read more

I would not recommend this business to anybody, please shop around do not settle here. I took a turn table in to have it fixed. $55 just for them to look at it. I was on the fence about doing it and Dave kept saying what if what if it's an easy fix what if what if. And of course it was an easy fix it needed a belt but he charged me another $103. Then told me I would need an additional 25 to tune it up. At first I refused and he proceeded to say what it's not worth it to have it working right? So then I called him back and told him to go ahead and tune it up that it would be roughly 25 and he processed to tell me that he did not say that but he said he would have to have a technician look at it first. Well I have the voice mail that he left on my phone saying it would be 25$ so I told him to just forget it! All I'm saying is just shop around there's got to be a better shop out there. I brought in two vintage audio receivers to A1 for service. Its was $55 for ea. to have them look at them and give me a quote for the repairs. At first one of the quotes was reasonable, so I gave the ok to proceed with service. Later they called back saying it was going to be much more. So I declined. Then on the second receiver, after a month, the same thing. They called back to say service was much more then first quoted. The service tech also sounded less than enthusiastic about doing any repairs. After I declined service, he was pushy about me picking it up. He said it took up valuable self space. This thing is shoe box size, yet it needed to be out of his shop asap. So...after spending $110, nothing was fixed. Easy money for them. read more

I thought my one year old Sony 55" tv was a goner. The warranty expired after 14 months of ownership and I purchased the TV brand new from RC Wiley. I didn't purchase the extra warranty:( and High Sierra who was recommended by RC Wiley NEVER returned my call after spending $75 for a tech to come out and do the exact same thing we already did. Dan was able to find a re-built main electronic board replacement part for my Sony Bravia TV. I found his service to be very good. The $$ service costs were significant for time involved, and that is why I gave 4 stars instead of 5. I have waited to write this review until I have had time to evaluate the final repairs.
