We purchased several natural stones for our bathroom renovation, and Carlos installed them with great care. He took the time to hand select individual pieces of stone from the 1' x 1' mesh to finish the edges of our walk-in shower. And Fred, Dave's plumber, is a gem. It's obvious he takes great pride in his work, and it really came through in the installation of the new heat and hot water systems in the basement. He even took the time to point out and explain some of the home's plumbing history (e.g. down spout for the old ice box!) We really enjoyed working with Dave. We gave him a high level vision of what we wanted, and he knew how to execute. This is our first home--first purchase and first renovation--and there were numerous times I thought to myself, "I'm not sure if we could've made it without Dave". He is an experienced electrician and performed expert work, including suggesting additional personalized touches, e.g. under-counter lighting options, USB outlets, etc ... the little extras that we utilize and appreciate on a daily basis. He explained all the steps along the way, repeatedly providing us a with a couple of days notice when we needed to make a decision, such as our preference for laying tile, or where we wanted lighting fixtures located, and all the other necessary decisions. Tony inspected all the new cabinets, tiling, appliances and lighting fixtures as they arrived and dealt with our suppliers if something needed attention. Jobs were fairly priced, not on the high or low end. He was nice and seemed knowledgeable. Unfortunately, the above was the extent of my good experience with this company. We wanted to initially move forward with 2 jobs at our place, totaling about $9,000. Upon completion of these 2 jobs, we had another 2 bigger jobs coming in which, based on previous quotes, would have been about around $100K total. If our experience would have been good, we would have chosen them for these other 2 jobs. Unfortunately, this was our experience that made me waste 2 weeks of my time that I could have used to perform the work already: 1. When we told Tony we were ready to move forward and asked for a contract, he didn't have any templates to provide so I asked if he was OK with me drafting one. He agreed to it. 2. After spending time drafting a standard contract for both of our protection, indicating payment timelines, guarantees, proof of insurance, and work to be performed, we received a text saying he doesn't want to go through all this trouble. OK... I wouldn't do any job without licensed and fully insured contractors so, if they can't prove that, I don't move forward. Better safe than sorry! 3. Then I got another text apologizing and saying that they can take the job and just asked for a minor change in the contract before signing it, which was related to the payment. I made the change and I also offered him to provide any template he feels more comfortable with if there was any concern. He confirmed there were no other concerns or changes he wanted to make. 4. I sent him the updated draft to be signed, then he came back saying that the warranty request was "silly". I initially suggested 20 years because that's what other contractors offered. In order to make it work, I asked him what he feels is fair and feels comfortable with. At this point, his answer was that he doesn't want to go through all of this for a job. To date, I am still trying to figure out what was exactly the issue: do they have insurance? are they fully licensed? do they know how to perform the job I was asking for and feel confident with their workmanship? If the answer to all these questions is 'yes', then I do not understand the reason why they wouldn't want a contract for both, my and their protection. The only thing that comes to mind is that either of the questions above comes with 'no' for an answer, and/or they are choosing the jobs where they will make more profit. They made me waste 2 weeks of time and I now have to start over looking for a contractor, or just take a couple of days of and do it myself. With respect to the other $100K projects, I will look for a company where that provides a signed contract like any serious business.

DO NOT hire this company. Our condo association hired them to rebuild a 3 story porch and replace…read morethe walkway beside the building. When the workers arrived, they did not have the materials to redo the walkway and asked the residents of the building if tools were available. They poured thin concrete over the cracks. The contract specified that they would remove and replace the walkway. They jacked up the side of the house after removing the support beam and left it that way for weeks. The third floor porch was jacked up so high it's at a visible slant and is unusable. The contract specified they would replace all the railings, but reused the old ones. The railings on the first floor are rotting. The steps on the first floor are not finished and are not to code as indicated by the City of Cambridge building inspector. The beams are pulling away on the roof of the first floor. The contract stated they would remove and clean up all debris. They left a mess. They did not pull permits, but given the kind of work they contracted to do, should have done so. The condo association has had to hire a second contractor and spend additional money to have the entire structure removed and rebuilt. BRC and its owner refuse to take any responsibility for this terrible work.
