Big Mike is a character, and also a very good locksmith! My 16 year old attempted to fix lock on back door. Destroyed lock and door. I Called Mike on the phone, after reading all the positive reviews on Yelp. Mike said he was nearby Getting some supplies, and told me he would swing by to check out my broken lock in a few minutes. Waited a few minutes and sure enough, he arrived. He said he could fix it and if I waited a short while. He had to go to his shop to pick up what he needed and come back and install it at approximately 6 PM. He said if I didn't care what color of the door knob was he could save me some money, so I went with a stainless steel look for the lock and door knob which was fine. The wood core on my steel door has been turned to powder near the lock, yet Mike was able to install the deadbolt anyway, along with a new door knob set, and he re-cut the striker plate, to make a more solid seal. Very happy and I feel fortunate that I found him. I like him and trust him. read more

He saved us on Sunday evening. See, we just moved into a house and didn't have a key to one of the locks that happened to inadvertantly autolock after the door slammed. We were locked out of our house with nothing to do. Yelp & Mike to the rescue! I found him via Yelp and called him and lucky he picked up and was out to our house within 20 minutes. He went above and beyond and helped us get into our lock as well as help us replace the locks so this sort of problem didn't happen again. He was also very reasonable and didn't try to rake us over the coals with it being Sunday Superbowl week. We were grateful that he didn't try to take advantage of us and was helpful. Mike, who runs the company was an eccentric and hilarious guy and we were grateful to get to know him. I called A & A Action Locksmith today to get the locks changed on my house on the West Side, which has three apartments in it. The owner, Mike, was really great. He took the time to talk through what I needed and then took all the locks back to his truck and came up with a new master system for the keys, which reduced my keyring from 9 keys down to 4 while still allowing me keys to give to my tenants. He spent more than 2 hours at my house, so I thought his price was quite reasonable. Aside from being really helpful and taking the time to do things right, Mike is just a really cool and interesting guy. He's fun to talk to and just a nice person. He's maybe a little eccentric, but also clearly a mechanical savant. He's clearly great at modern locks, but one of my favorite things is that he also restores old locks...when he told me that, I asked if he knew how to fix an old latch cartridge in one of the 100+ year old doors on my second floor that didn't work right and he diagnosed it and replaced the spring inside of it in about 5 minutes. I needed some keys made today but the place I usually go to is closed on weekends. A & A Locksmith was open (& way closer to me) so I decided to try it out. This location is within the Big Orbits gallery space so if you follow directions & end up there, don't think you've made a wrong turn. I called the business number & the proprietor popped right out to greet me, took my keys, & made me 2 copies of each in the time it took me to read two Buzzfeed list-icles. Very quick, friendly, and inexpensive. He asked how I heard about him & I told him that when I found my usual place was closed, I yelp-searched & found him. My fiancé was on his way out the door to his bachelor party and I had to finish up some work from home, but he accidentally locked us out of the apartment.
