I found this con man through Angi's list/HomeAdvisor. I received a call from Joe shortly after I…read morerequested a few quotes through Angi's list for a plumbing job. There's a leak somewhere in my kitchen that caused damage to our hardwood floors. Joe reached out to me and talked me into canceling my booking through Angi's list and doing business with him directly. I should've known right away that he wanted me to do that so he can overcharge me for services that he still has not been able to fix. We hired him in December 2021 and the issue still persists. His solution was basically trial and error. He charged me $500 to replace a pipe under the sink which I could've probably done myself. On top of that he charged me $575 to remove the mold infested dry wall in my basement and paint it with red mat. He offered to do the job of removing and installing my hardwood floors as well. He kept trying to find out how much money I got from my insurance so that he can overcharge me for the job. He gave me a very vague quote and contract that doesn't specify how much he'll charge for labor. I was very naive and trusting because I didn't shop around for quotes from other contractors. Joe took advantage of our kindness and trust especially after we've told him that we've already been taken advantage of by a previous plumber we hired. Anyways, we hired him for the job of ripping up our downstairs hardwood floors and installing the new floors. He quoted me $6,573.50. He charged me $2,586 for hardwood floors from his "distributor" plus $393.86 for "shipping". The materials arrived nearly two months later and it's half the thickness of the original hardwood floors we're replacing. Joe tried to prop it up using a bunch of underlayment which he tried to extort more money from me by charging me $350 when I found the same exact one he's trying to sell me at Home Depot for $15.99 a roll. From there, I started investigating more because something didn't feel right. I called home depot and found out that he originally paid $1,574.69 and no shipping. He picked it up down the street from my house. He overcharged me $1,405.17 for cheap low quality materials. I told him to return the materials, give me my money back so I can order the materials myself from the original place where my builder got it from. After we picked up the materials, he then attempted to extort more money from us and increased his prices yet again. We finally found out how much he's trying to charge us for labor which is $14 sq ft. I started looking around and requested a few bids from other legit flooring companies. I received bids between $3.75 sq ft to $7 sq ft for nail down hardwood. I was told that my contractor was overcharging me which I already knew at this point. He picked up the new hardwood floors I purchased, left it outside in the cold and rain and took off for the day because he didn't bring his tools to the job. What kind of contractor doesn't bring their tools to the job?! Anyways, he emailed us a new contract when he got home. This time he's trying to charge us $11,460 for a 490 sq ft install. The audacity to continue to extort more money from us! Unbeknownst to him, we've already discovered his con. That was the final nail in the coffin. By the way the new floor I purchased cost way less than what he overcharged me for the cheap thinner low quality engineered click lock wood. We were fed up and confronted him and told him everything we know and showed him receipts. He didn't take it well because he resorted to threats and attacks. This man is a liar and a conman. He price gouged and overcharged us for unfinished work and left nails and staples all over the floors which is dangerous. He left all the old hardwood floors outside my house and the new one to get ruined with the cold and the rain. This man doesn't know what he's doing. Hire a legit contractor not a handyman who claims he knows how to do anything. He has not fixed or completed any project we hired him to do. We lost all our money to him. We returned the materials he purchased from home depot for a fraction of the price we paid for and only got a store credit. Please do your research before hiring this conman. I have no recourse to get my money back because he talked me into paying him through Venmo which now I know why. This man has a long history of chargebacks from other victims of his fraud. Also, he was supposed to start his job on a Monday and complete by Wednesday but he arrived late, worked for a couple of hours, took a three hour lunch, came back and called it a day. On Tuesday, he didn't even bother showing up. Wednesday he showed up late, took 3 hour lunch and left early again. Thursday he picked up the new floors I purchased, dropped it off and left for the day because he didn't have his tools with him. This guy shows up whenever he pleases and leaves early. He's got the worst work ethic I've ever seen.

Tao and his crew did an amazing job installing our new engineered hardwood floors…read more We needed to get rid of our carpet and replace it with new hardwood floors. When Tao first came by for a free estimate, he had great suggestions to make the space look larger and more open. We wanted to try to match the existing hardwood floors we already had as much as possible. Tao immediately knew what kind of floors to use and he even had samples on hand so that I could compare them with our current floors. Tao's estimate was very reasonable and comparable to other companies I reached out to. I went with Tao because of his background as a designer and I trusted he would make sure the floors look great! It ended up being a great decision because we are very happy with our new floors! The installation process was very smooth and even finished earlier than expected. The crew was very respectful of our home and did a great job keeping the house clean after their work was done. Any minor issues I found during installation were immediately remedied by the team without any issue. Overall, I would highly recommend reaching out to Tao for your next flooring project!

I highly recommend Tao. I was skeptical about having our floors refinished, but I'm really glad I…read moredid. I shopped around for 10 different quotes from Boston-area companies. Tao stood out for how knowledgeable he was. First, he was clearly knowledgeable. Based on photos alone, he corrected me that the wood was not mahogany (as our home inspector said) but instead Brazilian cherry. I verified that he was correct with the listing agent. No other company did this. Second, he had the lowest quoted price for the job. Third, after I selected him, he was transparent about tradeoffs rather than purely trying to upsell me. For example, he quoted me on installing wood registers everywhere when I asked, but recommended I do so only in the hallways. This advice saved me $1k and delivered a result in very happy with. Finally, Tao was easily the most response person I interacted with. It was a pleasure to work with Tao, and I'm very happy with the outcome.
