Called them 3 separate times to purchase an automatic gate handheld remote transmitter and never got a call back. Got a lot of excuses but never an apology or a call back. All they had to do is have their estimator look up the price and availability for a remote that I had the manufacturer's name, model number and frequency for. They could and should have looked up the information while I was on hold but always said "someone will call you back". While I like to support local businesses, A&D Automatic Gate & Access lost my business. It was not hard to find another supplier who appreciates customers big or small. read more

First, it took a while to get ahold of these guys. I tried contacting them a couple of years ago for routine maintenance and they never called back. We ended up with an issue where one of the gates didn't open, so called them again in 2025, and they came out. It cost $500+ to diagnose a broken circuit board. Honestly, given what he showed me, it should probably have been obvious to a seasoned technician, but the guy called the gate manufacturer to get help which took some time. I thought we'd agreed that A&D would provide a quote for replacing the circuit board and the two arms which he couldn't get opened without drilling out a screw and decided were old could probably use replacing, and they never called me back to give me a quote for doing the work, just sent me a bill for the diagnosis. I guess that's fine. I might just try to fix it myself. read more

I've been a long time customer and A&D has come through many times. From small fixes, to a full automatic gate replacement, they have been easy to work with, easy to schedule, and just a nice crew. When I call, the person that answers is always really kind. Every tech sent has been on time, professional, knowledgeable and friendly. Most recently, in an extreme bind, both Dean and Lalo came through for me, and within the hour everything was up and running. They were patient and went over and above to help me and my kids. I don't think any other company would have responded so fast, it just shows the caliber of people you'd be working with at A&D. These days, that's harder to find, so it means a lot. In 2005 we contracted with A and D to install the electronics for our gate. So in 2024 when one side would not operate I called them. A technician came and spent a couple hours, then said I would need to replace the system. I asked if the charge for the diagnosis would be incorporated in the charge for replacement and about how much it would cost. He said the diagnostic charge would have to be taken up with billing, and that replacement parts would cost about $3000.00. I received a quote for $7600. which they asked me to authorize remotely. I did so. Imagine my surprise when my authorization was applied to a bill for the diagnostic visit for $646., for which I had received no bill as yet! It took about a month, but repairs were finally done. I received a bill then for $7665.18. I had to talk to several people to finally have the diagnostic charge subtracted from that total. We have had gates originally installed by A&D for over 20 years. I recently had the pleasure of working with A&D Gate again and I couldn't be happier with the service I received. I needed 1) a general service, 2) a Knox switch installed and 3) a gate raised about .25" off the ground (it had settled and was scraping). They were able to provide a prompt solution to the scraping that exceeded my expectations. I wish I could give 0 stars. Gate installed 36 hours ago. Special-ordered a gate that is supposed to be EXTRA strong and secure. Waited longer for this super re-inforced high-quality system. Product was installed 3 weeks later than they bid. Work took 4 days more than they stated it would and now the gate broke one day in. When I went to see if I could troubleshoot or reset, I realized just how poor a job the workers had done (panels missing screws, some of the safety screws did not actually lock in, scratches on posts where clearly the installers were less than careful with their work). Per their website, called their 24 hour service and got a message that states they only respond between 7 to 4 on weekdays. So let's recap my experience, the product is not what they represented, the quality of labor is not what they represented, and so far there is no service to speak of. So basically, we have a six figure gate that is wide open, that sounds a screeching alarm every time a car exits or enters the garage and no support from A&D to address the issue. If A&D decides to live up to their hype, I will update my review and keep you all posted. read more

Great Job by Jeremy! I had a 5 year old FAAC brand gate control board that was not working when the power went out, even though the system had back up batteries. Another gate company came out and replaced the batteries but did not solve the problem, which only became apparent on the next power outage. Jeremy from A& D came out and was able to properly diagnose that the controller board's battery charging circuit had failed. He then placed an order for a new board and came out today to do the replacement. An extra bonus was he showed me what failed on the old board and described various features on the new one, then he made sure to hand me the new board's manual (I keep all manuals). Jeremy was professional, knowledgeable and detail oriented and you should definitely ask for him the next time you need service for your driveway gate system. read more

Three contractors to give me a bid on adding a privacy screen to my driveway gate. The only one that was a knowledgeable professional was Javier from A&D Automatic Gate. I could tell from the moment we met he knew his business. He knew my gate, my controller, and knew what I wanted to do. He was able to research and find alternatives that would add a privacy screen with out adding a lot of weight. The crew he sent out, Sergio and Remy, were top notch professionals. This business sold the wrong garage door opener for more than double the price it costs to purchase online. The garage door opener is a 10 dip switch device. The garage opener in my complex is a 9 dip switch device. The people working here told me there is no such thing as a 9 dip switch garage door opener. A simple google search revealed there are different garage door openers with variable dip switch numbers. A garage door expert company that doesn't know basic information such as how many dip switch types of garage door remotes are on the market is not one anyone should patronize. Transparency is a great sanitizer of malarkey. Save your money and time. Go elsewhere. read more

Avoid avoid avoid!! I called them out to replace dead battery in our gate and lubricate the parts. While working on the gate, they broke something causing all of our remotes to stop working. We asked them to come back and fix the problem. They returned & were able to restore the gate to its original condition, but charged us $270 for a service call and the installation of a new antenna. I have called to complain at least five times and they have refused to cancel the invoice. They finally turned this over to a collection agency and are burying their head in the sand. I wasn't going to bother to review these guys, but it's only fair to the Yelp community that they get an honest review from a real customer that used their services. You can skip to down to the bottom line if you aren't a detail person. Here is my tale of woe: I had an electric driveway gate with a liftmaster unit. It stopped working so I gave them a call. They sent out a very capable technician who was able to diagnose the problem and order a new actuator arm. The company told me that the price of the diagnosis would be credited towards the install and part. No problem. I waited about 2 weeks with no communication, so I sent them an email asking for a status update. The very next morning - first thing - I get a call from them saying the part "just" came in (sure it did) and they scheduled a time to get it installed. They gave me a 5-hour​ window (10 - 3) for an install so I stayed home and waited. At about 2:45 no one showed up, so I called them and got a real peach of a guy on the phone who tells me "It's between 10 and 3 so he'll be there in 15 minutes" and hangs up. 45 minutes later, no one shows up so I call again. The service manager gets on the phone and apologizes​ by throwing the install tech under the bus and telling me that he must have gotten tied up at another job and never called - that's so unlike him! Can we reschedule for tomorrow morning? Ok, you just completely blew my day but I'm in a generous mood. Let's​ try again. Tech shows up bright and early (half​ an hour before the window) and starts work. Again, the tech is capable and super qualified. Great guy. I ask him about the tough job he had that caused him to miss his appointment with me the day prior. He looks at me with a deer in the headlights look​ and says "That job was easy. I wasn't scheduled to come here, they sent me to Moss Beach yesterday." Now,​ these guys are expensive and I don't mind paying extra for top-shelf​ service, but this is far from that. I HATE being lied to. When they sent the invoice it was for the full amount and they neglected to credit me the initial call so I had to call again. They ended up fixing their little "mistake" but I have my own thoughts about whether that was a mistake. Bottom line: -Great, knowledgeable​ technician (who should quit immediately) -Very expensive -Absolutely HORRIBLE customer service. I honestly don't think that they care. In fact,​ I would fire the lot of them and rebuild that department. read more

1. Made appointment for the following Tuesday between 8:00 AM and 12:00 PM. 2. Mentioned to the dispatcher that the broken part was the Charger and they assured me that they would bring one over. 3. Took day off on Tuesday to greet the technician. Here is what happened. 1. Tuesday after lunch I call to ask where the technician was and was told they didn't actually pencil me in for that day. 2. The next closest availability was a week out. 3. Assured me again that the charger part I needed would be coming with technician. Here is what happened next. 1. Guy shows up without the charger part. 2. Tells me it is the charger part that needs replacing. 3. The part will be a "special order". 4. 15 minutes of time elapsed before I thanked the guy for his time. 5. Ordered my own part and installed it myself. If you are interested in working with these guys, you would need to be ready to shell out lots of $$ for no services. I have been a customer for past 7 years and spent over $1,500 last year for maintenance works. Finally, my gate is dead and I have asked multiple vendors to come out (1) see if they can fix (2) or put out a replacement quote if the fix is not possible. This company quoted me 3x higher than other vendors. Naturally, I picked other respectable company. A minute after I picked other company, these guys charged me close to $200 (initially $300 but I negotiated down) for coming out to the location - they did not do anything other than checking it out. Funny thing is no other companies charged me for their diagnosis and quote. You would need to know this because they did not disclose they will charge for the estimate activity. This is a tough review to write. They are highly skilled and honest, but expensive and busy. Their service people are great. Their office people are nice (except one, who is a bit grumpy) but not super efficient. Do I wish I could get a free estimate..yup. Do I wish they didn't mark up parts 100% over what I could get them for...yup. Do I wish they weren't so busy, and could run over as soon as I call...yup. Would I use them again or recommend them to others? Yes, but largely because they know their stuff, they are nice in person and the other companies don't know the trade nearly as well in my experience. I have used them three times. The most recent time they couldn't come very quickly so I got different company out the same day. GREAT! except the repair man said the control board was likely fried, and given the age of the system (8 yrs) it would be better to replace everything. That didn't sit right with me, so I called to discuss with a service manager. He agreed it would make sense to come out. No follow up, no estimate on a new control board, no estimate on replacement. In the mean time I got an appointment with A&D. It took them 2 hrs to get the wiring back in place, change out the hydraulic fluid and get it back working. A week later it started having issues again...it turned out a sensor was starting to fail and had issues periodically. They sent someone else out, who diagnosed the issue but did not have a sensor in stock. It would have been great if they jumped on ordering the part and scheduled a repair time, but they didn't. When I followed up they hadn't done anything and wanted to mark up parts 2x. I ended up just replacing that part myself. So...try not to get upset they aren't going to give you a free estimate and that they are expensive. They are up front and honest about it. Use them, and follow up with them rather than assuming they are ordering the parts, or have the right appointment time. You will get quality work, that they stand behind. Not perfect, but the best you can probably do in the bay area. read more

Unbelievable how arrogant and rude this company's customer service representatives are. I called on the recommendation of my contractor and was shocked by the man on the phone telling me that they would charge me for an estimate. When I questioned it, he tried to put me in my place by saying they have more experience than anyone and that if I didn't like it, I should call an inexperienced company because they will be cheaper. I just want my freaking gate fixed, dude. Is it not fair to ask your company to tell me how and for what cost you propose the work to be done...without being charged $160+ per hour?? What if it's money than I can't afford to spend right now and I will still have to hand you money to be given a price?? What in the hell?!?? I was so surprised and didn't realize how asinine this was until I hung up..especially after I ended the call with asking for an appointment for Thursday. The man goes, "ok, our tech will be there that day. Bye." I am like, wait! What time??? He replies, "between 10-3pm. The tech will you give you 30 mins notice." Then, the guy hung up. Like I have all day to wait around for your asses. I will be sure to pass this on to my neighborhood, where there are probably 500 homes with automatic gates. You guys need to check your attitude. Robert came out, fixed our 3 issues in record time and explained thoroughly how to open, adjust and manually operate all features! Not only did he fix those items, but noticed some incorrect installations of the arm, gate and sensor. He then corrected them and now it is working perfectly. I have numerous services call with them, and recently their services call fees became outrageous high and they will sneak in extra hours to your services call. They could charge you for driving times and erroneous arrival time , so to bump up their invoices. They have it monopolized, so be aware of it. read more

I arranged for a resource to come look at my gate as the hydraulic arm wasn't working correctly. I had understood that if they performed service they would charge a minimum of $135 and then an hourly rate beyond. When the resource came onsite I advised I wanted to make sure we would fix the gate for the long term so I wouldn't have to fix it again. The resource advised that he could get me a quote for new parts rather than trying to fix the current set up as it wouldn't be cost effective. Guy said he would send me a quote and best not to work on anything at that point; spent 10 minutes at my house. He never advised I would be charged. This company charged me $135 for nothing other than to provide a quote for refurbished and new parts, never touching my gate the whole time they were there When I called to complain about the charge they advised it was my choice not to have him work on the gate so the charge is still due. They called me back and reluctantly credited my account $135, that much I have to give them credit for. I had two other gate companies give me quotes for FREE and spent more time looking at my gate. try Bay Cities they don't charge to qoute. read more

This is a legacy company I inherited and they are terrible. They do not answer calls, emails, smoke signals, nothing. They went silent and we are going to use another company. The owner was CC'd on all emails and no one responded. They were used for a commercial building security system. The access controls were not completed and they used a temp solution. I have had 3 bad experiences with this company this year. Shame on me for not learning sooner. They have been unable to fix my gate; it keeps breaking down every 3 months ... and their service department makes one excuse after another for their inability to repair it. Their solution to everything is to REPLACE the entire unit. I have since had another company come in and fix it. It turns out that it was a small setting on the circuit board that needed adjustment. A&D Automatic Gate simply had the wrong diagnosis. Now for the horrific part. They charge you $135 for a service call. Even if they show up for 5 minutes to take a look, and then tell you that they'll come back with a new part. This is simply outrageous. Most recently, they came out, charged me for 3 hours of "diagnosis" and were unable to fix the gate. Then they proceed to charge my credit card without my permission. AND ALL THIS FOR A GATE THAT WAS NON-FUNCTIONAL, and I had to call in another company that charged me $75 to fix it... and it's working just fine now! Their service manager Beverly simply does care. Calls to their Regional Manager and CEO have gone unanswered. I am so incensed by this, I will be taking it up with the Better Business Bureau, and anyone who cares to listen. Do not deal with them. There are plenty of gate companies with better service technicians, less expensive rates, and better business practices. read more

THE BEST! I had a baffling problem with my gate not connecting to my street side DoorKing. I appeared it was caused by an AT&T landline repair but they came 3 times and could not solve it.
