Next step is to attempt to recoup the $750, yes only $750 for reimbursement for adding wood to an electronic gate without doing load calculations beforehand; added wood was too heavy for the motor. I Wood removed and I asked for reimbursement the for that portion of the job (wood added to 100 ft of iron fencing. Dan Hill, who misrepresented himself as "owner" refused to reimburse which is when my research uncovered his father, Kenneth Hill, is the legal owner of the corporation. Ken also refused reimbursement. It shouldn't have to be this hard to do business with a fence contractor. Next step: Small Claims court. Unfortunately, the Secretary of State website is out of date, and there is no agent to accept a small claims subpoena. Failing to file statement of information on time seems to be part of their business model and files are not updated until there is a citation. The owner, Kenneth Hill, lives in Texas. Secretary of State agent advises to file in small claims and after I submit proof of attempted service, SOS agents will serve on my behalf. Again, it shouldn't have to be this hard. read more

Wrought Iron Gate installed a Viking I8 gate on our new home about two years ago. The overall installation could have been much cleaner (wiring looks a little ragged), but it did work and we were generally pleased. Most importantly however, they did not install any water drains in the recessed motor box. This means whenever it rains, the "water resistant" motor box sits under water(!) I noticed this after a year, and made repeated calls for them to come out and install a drain, but they never did. I finally drilled drain holes through the concrete myself. However, the damage was done, as this year I had to pull the motor assembly out, and sure enough there was water intrusion into the motor assembly. It is a DC brushed motor, so it doesn't take much to kill it. I am now working with Viking to see if I actually have to replace the entire motor box (a $750 replacement part), or just a new brush assembly. So, if you have a gate installed, CHECK TO MAKE SURE THE MOTOR BOX HAS A DRAIN. If not, since it takes about two years for this to kill the motor, it will be out of warranty then, and you will need a costly repair. read more

They put in 20 year old parts for a keypad, then cover it with a new face plate so you have no idea until the circuit board goes out and you find out how old it is when trying to get a new one under warranty. We had been looking to add gates to our home for awhile and after a close call with our dogs running onto Alameda (busy street), we got serious and started the hunt. To say prices vary with each company is an understatement. A lot of salesmanship and BS to wade through and we leaned heavily towards Ken. He is a no-nonsense proprietor and it was refreshing hearing about our expected challenges with our setup and how he would approach them. Also his pricing was much better so we had cause to worry that the old adage on getting what you pay for would apply. The installation did have it's challenges as we had another contractor working alongside Ken to construct a fence that would complete the entire enclosure. Fortunately Ken was flexible enough to work with our fence guy and the entire project went smoothly. He had never built a steel fence as long as ours (almost 20 feet) so we were very worried that we'd run into logistical or performance issues, but we're 7-8 months in and things have been great so far. There have been a few issues where the motor mechanism needed to be reset but Ken was responsive to our needs and made time for us. We've also recommended him to our neighbor who also had to contain her dog (on a busy street) and we were glad to hear she was well taken care of by Ken. And it sounds like she recommended him to a friend of hers so good news travels very quickly and we're glad he is getting the proper support and recognition. read more

Took them over a year to complete my job, I had to bring in other people to help them fix the shoddy work. If that wasn't enough, 6 months later I get a bill for over $9000 in "extras". Great service by Wrought Iron Gate Service is such a treat when it just seems companies are always looking to take advantage of the customer when they know they have you in a position to make money. There are only 6 wrought iron gate companies in the Bay Area and Wrought Iron Gate Service is the best one of the bunch, I should know as I had bids from all of them before I selected WIGS, Ken was the lowest bid by far and has come through with great customer service for the few issues we had over the years. I called Ken Hill after a truck ripped out and destroyed our wrought iron patio fencing and masonry, and he came out the next day (Friday) and provided a good estimate. We liked so much we agreed on the spot and he said he'd send out his crew to double check his measurements. The crew showed up within 2 hours of Ken's visit, and on Wed and Thurs of the following week they replaced our wrought iron patio fencing with new fencing they fabricated in their shop, which matched the old fencing (which was quite elaborate and ornamental) exactly! They also repaired the Masonry for us - one stop shopping - and even though Ken repeatedly said that they are not masons, they did great work on that also! Highest possible marks available - I've give them a 10 out of 10 if that was an option. read more

About five years ago, our small HOA experienced issues with trespassers crossing our common area during all hours of the day. After someone broke a car window in our driveway during the wee hours of the morning, our HOA decided to get some gates. We got three bids and Wrought Iron Gate Services submitted a bid that was about $10K lower than the second lowest bidder. They installed the gates on our property and we couldn't be happier. The best thing about the gates is that no more solicitors knock on our door. The reason I am writing a review now is because I wanted to say that after five years, we still continue to receive great treatment and support from Ken Hill and his company. Yes, we have had a few issues with the gates over the past five years but he still keeps us happy whenever we place calls for service. He really came through for me today so I am writing this yelp review as a sign of my gratitude. Our gate had an issue today and he could have placed an after hours service call and charged us a lot of $$$. However he told us that we could fix it ourselves and he actually walked me through it over the phone for about half an hour. He also told me how I can program more remotes if I need to. Our previous gate company A&D charges 199$ even if you just needed an estimate and they do no work. We will no longer use them. Furthermore they couldn't come out for one week. Another company's representative came by and quoted $1,100 for a fix to the board while suggesting an $8,000 two motor replacement. I won't mention the company's name and will give the tech the benefit of the doubt in that he was young and maybe hadn't seen an old system like ours. I'm very, very glad I called Wrought Iron since Ken offered to come by the next day and even though he surprise showed up the same day I called, he knew enough and managed to fix our gates by pressing the reset button on the motor that was not working. I would've rather he had shown up at the agreed upon time so that I would've been home and could see where that reset button was however that's a fairly minor complaint. I'm sure I can look it up. His service came at a minimum service charge of $125 and he was willing to just take a look and give me an estimate unlike A&D. read more

The automatic iron gate to my property can't open fully because it scrap on ground that was raised by tree root. Ken, I believe is the owner, came within hours after my call. Initial estimate was $800 to cut and raise both gates. The other company proposed the same solution but at $1000. Then one of his crew suggested an alternative to cut the tab at bottom of gate and add a stop at side of gate. The entire work took less than 1 hour and cost $300. I'm happy with their creative thinking and quality of works. Further more, they fixed the noise on one of the automatic operators. Ken came back the next day to check on the communication system to the gate. And then the crew returned the third day to fill the crack on ground that exposed the loop. I did not ask them to do all these and all these extra works are free! Ken and his team are highly skilled and very pleasant to work with. The railing between our neighbor and us along our driveway got bent as a result of someone backing into it. We didn't know when it happened, but the neighbor alerted us. I called Ken to get an estimate. He dropped by couple days later saying that he'd fixed it. He said he just straightened it out and, he didn't charge anything. Wow, not sure what Ken some of these other Yelpers worked with but I've hired Ken four times in the past five years for three different gates and had easy, fast, punctual and successful results each time. He came out within a couple days when my very old gates decided to stop working. he also came out to make adjustments to my rental property gate. And finally, he came out recently to fix a gate that has been faulty since the other gate company put in the gates 10 years ago. It would always push itself over center and get stuck open. It would also swing back into the drive way while you were trying to drive by it. Very dangerous. Ken came out and in a few mins told me what the previous installer had done wrong. He ordered the parts and showed up a week earlier than planned and fixed it. Even spray painted the weld spots to pretty dam close match. Gate works awesome now. Like it was supposed to. Up front, honest estimates. Shows up on time or early. Calls you back when you leave a voicemail. What else could you ask for from a business? Buyer beware! Wrought Iron Gate is cheaper, but you get what you pay for. At this point we have paid thousands of dollars for a gate that does not close. The work was completed mid December 2012 and I have called Ken dozens of times. Once I think that he did come out because the gate was closed when I got home. The next morning it was open and as far as I know has not closed in 10 days. Sometimes I cannot get through because his phone nimbler is disconnected. But I did talk to him three times this week and each time he has promised to come out and he has not. I have paid him in full, so that is not the reason he does not come out to fix this. read more

Awful!! My home automatic gate was not working. Ken (owner) came out and told me I needed a new harness. Didn't fix the problem. Came back and said I needed new batteries. Didn't fix the problem. I finally called R&S Erection of San Mateo and they found that Ken had left wires unconnected and the batteries he sold me were no good. I paid Ken $600.00 and R&S charged me $240.00 and really fixed my gate. Stay away from Ken. read more

He gave us a bid, but then quickly diagnosed the problem with our current motor and changed a part out (that he carried in his truck) and solved our problem for $150. I have used Ken's services for a number of years, including the original installation of a motor on the gate that existed when we bought our house. I have always been satisfied with response times and the work performed. Recently, we had a serious problem with the gate due to the rains. Ken initially came out and got it up and operating quickly, but had a family commitment that prevented him from coming back immediately to correct the phone line problem.
