An old building, a little history, straightforward Southern food and people who seem considerably more concerned with whether you ate enough than whether their plates are Instagram-ready. And then there are the fried taters. Crispy, salty, unapologetically fried potatoes--the sort of food that reminds you mankind occasionally gets things exactly right. Nobody needed to deconstruct them. Nobody needed to drizzle truffle oil over them. They needed hot grease, seasoning and somebody in the kitchen who knows when to pull them out. The rest of the food follows the same philosophy: familiar, filling and comforting. This isn't a place trying to reinvent Southern cooking. Thank God. It's trying to feed you. These had the crispy outside that you can bite into without crushing and fluffy innerds mmmmm. But getting back to my patty melt. The menu said it came with thousand island dressing. I would usually hold the TI, but now I'm in a phase where I order with no substitutions. So I took it with the Thousand island. And so glad I did, it did something to it.
