Date of Visit: July 2, 2026 On this afternoon my wife wanted to take me on a country drive after an overwhelming day in Murfreesboro the day before. Murfreesboro used be an easy navigable town, not no more, so many people. So off we went. Heading out towards Chapel Hill we came up the Fried Tater Cafe. After yesterday (if your following) I needed something authentic to the area and this looked the part. We both agreed to stop. Walked inside and I knew right away this going to be great. We were greeted and told to sit anywhere. Nice. Found a booth against the wall and were given menus and drink orders taken. Drinks came while still viewing the menu. I almost wanted a burger but chose the patty melt with coleslaw. I was going to have fries but they have those Checkers type fries. My wife had the BLT with Tots and after having a couple of her tots I should of had the tots. My wife even agrees, these are the best tots she has ever had and she has tots when ever offered. These had the crispy outside that you can bite into without crushing and fluffy innerds mmmmm. But getting back to my patty melt. The menu said it came with thousand island dressing. I would usually hold the TI, but now I'm in a phase where I order with no substitutions. So I took it with the Thousand island. And so glad I did, it did something to it. Don't know if everyone does this but wow. And the slaw was good too, though I wish I had gotten the tots, next time tots. The wife and I will be back here next time in town for sure, if just for the drive. Peace. read more

A beautiful day for a drive so I picked The Fried Tater Café for a visit. Housed in the old Versailles/Rockvale Store (built in 1884) and had been empty for the past 40 years, they did a great job renovating. Sat down and Megan brought me a menu while sharing some of the "must haves" here. I ordered the Philly Sirloin steak sandwich (this is not a Philly cheesesteak for all you purists out there) and the Tater Tornado as an appetizer. The Tater Tornado gives you the best of both worlds...potato chips and french fries and they are really good. I sprinkled a little salt on em, dipped in ranch dressing, they are addicting!!! This steak sandwich is solid! The steak had some nice grill char, great flavor, and is very tender. The veggies caramelized while the smoked gouda cheese is a really nice touch. Even the "side" of cole slaw was very good, fresh, and crunchy. While I was eating Megan brought some fried pies to a table and they smelled incredible. So I ordered a blueberry one to go and suffered in my SUV the whole way home smelling it. These pies alone are worth the drive out here...absolutely delicious! Without a doubt the best homemade blueberry fried pie I've ever enjoyed. Really great food, nice serene country setting, and friendly service. Well worth the drive out to Rockvale!!! read more

I have been here twice now -- I had to try both their breakfast and lunch/dinner menu to weigh in properly . They are truly a cozy hole-in-the-wall that serves up tasty country cooking! Their fries (big surprise) and fried chicken are probably my favorite bites that I've tried so far, and portion sizes were generous! For a little place, they've got a menu with a good range of options, and their staff have been very warm, friendly and helpful! If you're in the area and have a hankering for some country cooking or a juicy burger, head on down! read more

This is a little gem in the middle of no where, and packed on the day I visited. Great wings and the spiral tater was very tasty too. Pretty fast service with a country ambiance. No seating inside, fear not, there are picnic tables outside. Give them a try if you are in Rockvale. read more

Historic building that I originally found on Yelp. Home cooked selections for lunch and dinner and breakfast on the weekend. They keep their Facebook updated so you know what the daily specials are before coming. Pretty much everything I have tried was good. Did breakfast for the first time today and sausage gravy was excellent and I am a gravy snob it passes the test. Usually not too busy and can walk in and get a table. I live in Franklin and met a group of 15 friends here for a birthday celebration. It was an adventure just finding this place! As soon as I pulled up, I knew it would be an experience! The chicken tenders were the best I've ever had! And I couldn't resist the sweet potato fries. Everyone enjoyed their food. We met the owner who was so friendly. My wife and I went for lunch on a Saturday morning. There was about a 20 minute wait, but it was totally worth it! I had a hamburger and fries. The patty was huge (actually hung over the bun) and was perfectly cooked. My wife had the Philly cheese steak sandwich (the best she has eaten) and fried okra. We both enjoyed the meal and will definitely make the drive (1 hr. and 25 min.) again. Be prepared to wait if you go on a Saturday morning (old store building), but I don't think you will regret it. Don't run here, SPRINT! A true gem tucked away. If you see this and you think ahh this place is too far, shut up and go. The food is delicious and is truly a place you'd find on Diners, Drive Ins and Dives. The Fired Okra is easily the best I've ever had, don't tell my mother-in-law. Patty Melt is out of this world flavorful and the Philly might be my new go to. Service.. it's the bomb. Everyone is friendly and goes the extra mile. Ok, so this place is located in a small country store. It is the proverbial hole in the wall. The atmosphere is quaint and fun. The service was great and the food was very good. I had the special which was the smoked bologna burger. My wife had a hamburger. The burgers were smash burgers and had crispy edges. Delicious! The fries were crunch and delicious. We must have visited on an off night. There are only 6-7 tables in this place and it was not full. However, it took an hour and a half for us to get our food from the hot bar! My heart is officially touched. Walking in this gem is like walking back in time. Read the back of the menu to understand deeper what I mean folks. Just go n get you some grub. I had the chicken sandwich (fried and open faced-- I just took the top of the bread off and went to town with my fork). When I went to the bathroom I read a sign telling how it's hard to get people who wanna work and they're most likely short staffed so be sure to be patient and kind to the people who decided to show up and serve you. Very cool place that sits in the middle of nowhere but not far from Murfreesboro. It's an old grocery store and you feel transported back in time. Staff were friendly and food came quick. We both had burgers that had the perfect char on the outside and juicy inside. Fries were also crispy outside and soft inside. Tea was fresh and we will definitely come back and try more. Might get busy on weekends and it's not a big place so I imagine you should plan on waiting. read more

Came here for the first time this past weekend. It was kind of slow because we got there about an hour before close. I can't for the life of me remember my server's name, but he had brown hair, young kid. Super sweet and helpful. There was another person there too, don't remember names too well, but short hair, wearing an apron, so most likely a cook. Also very nice, sat and talked to me a little while we were finishing up. Fried bologna was good. My bf's philly was delicious and tender. And they have corn nuggets. One of my faves! Star of the show: Tater sauce. I'm gonna make it at home now and put it on everything! Love this little place. The people are always so nice who work there and try their best to make your experience a good one. Sometimes the food can be slow, even when there is not a pot of people, but I have never had a bad meal. Great burgers and their fried chicken is well, awesome! Please note the meat & 3 veggies are not served until after 4pm. The original owners sold last year. We did like the hamburgers but would only stop if in the area. Very quaint spot. Young serving lady was very nice and helpful. read more
