Accountability starts at the top. What was once an nice place to eat while enjoying beautiful surroundings now I'd say save your trip. Sad to see, I'm not sure outside of the obvious recession if that is playing a part but the customers were there, however the complete lack of service was not. We got water 30 minutes after I complained, tables full of people or full of trash. Food came at the 2 hour mark and we watched group after group leave. Only sandwiches on menu now and fries well they took order for it but served fried tomatoes which we also had as an appetizer, said they didn't have any fries. No one paid attention to anyone unless you were sitting at the bar for drinks. Unfortunately once a place we enjoyed will not go back to. Everything Changed and the Resturaunt seems it's sadly on its way out. Just my opinion. read more

You can NOT go wrong with a visit here! Outstanding atmosphere, excellent food, supreme customer service and a scenic drive. Planned visit to celebrate 12th wedding anniversary. Went on a Saturday morning not long after they opened. All staff were wearing masks which eased our concerns about going out to celebrate. Fried Green Tomatoes are the BEST I've had in many, many years. Sliced perfectly with a cornmeal breading that was seasoned to perfection and fried to a wonderful crispness and drizzled with the chipotle crema. I could have eaten 2 plates of them and been thoroughly satisfied. However I also had the Bootlegger Chicken Fried, not hot, minus the lettuce and onion. Also very good no sauce, spreads or dressings needed--seasoned well. Hubby had the Duo Dip and the Stillhouse Farm Burger. I only tested the Duo Dip which was also amazing but his plate was empty from the burger so that tells me it was good. He also had a side of Pimento Mac and cheese bake--YUMMY!! Drinks-- Cos-Moon-Politan was amazing and not lacking in anything. Short Mountain Long Island also quite yummy but I like the cosmo better. Moonshine Brownie Trifle--just don't. My friends and I had a solid experience here. I feel the only thing that could change is if that everyone was wearing masks the way they were supposed to. I didn't shy away from the fact when I addressed it with the server who was wearing her mask correctly. I told her we appreciated it. My friends and I wore masks until it was time to eat and drink plus when we interacted with our server. We are in a pandemic. I am going to mention this. As far as drinks go, they were tasty, but weak and you couldn't taste the booze. That was a bit of a disappointment considering this is a distillery that makes varying spirits that are the base of said drinks. The drinks were tasty, but with the price tag attached to said drinks, I want to taste the spirits that you distill. Food was just plain delicious. No complaints there at all. Very hearty options and sharables that satisfied all palettes. My 2 friends and I split a couple of apps and we had our own entrees separately. Entrees are proportionally large, but you are going to pay a nice sum for that entrée as well. I ordered 2 sides to put together as my entrée since the sharables were pretty filling prior to the actual meals. If you want to do a spirit tasting, the server brings it to your table and it is $5 for the sampling. it is worth doing this if you like distillery tastings to grasp what they have to offer. We did not end up buying any product outside of the tastings, but we enjoyed the chance to see what they had to offer. read more

We were hoping to get our 'shine on at the Short Mountain Distillery but alas due to a couple of wrong turns up the mountain (who is stealing all the street signs?) we were too late. Luckily, the Stillhouse was open for drinks/food (the final distillery tour of the day is at 3 pm and the Stillhouse stays open until 6 pm) so we decided to get our food on instead. The Stillhouse Venue is situated on the same scenic property as the Short Mountain Distillery, and the view does not disappoint. Their menu is small with several starters and burgers. They do have a few entrees and sides and even a couple of desserts. My boyfriend and I both ordered burgers, which come with fries. I got the Blacken & Blue Cheese Burger ($12) and he got the Spicy Jalapeno Jack Cheese Burger ($12). The burgers are pretty large so I cut mine in half and had to get a box for the other half. We both enjoyed what we ordered and I would easily order the same thing again. Their drink menu has a list of signature cocktails which feature the moonshine and bourbon from the distillery (we got our 'shine fix after all!) I got the Palmer ($7) which is their Prohibition Tea mixed with lemonade over ice. Although simple, it was delicious. The boyfriend got the Apple Ginger ($7) which is the Apple Pie Shine mixed with ginger ale and vanilla. I had a sip of his which tasted a bit stronger than mine but still good. After a bit of a buzz from the aforementioned shine cocktails we went outside and played a round of cornhole outside. There are picnic tables and the property is quite large so I would absolutely come back on a nice day just to enjoy the landscape of the beautiful green hills and clear sky. Although the food/cocktails are good the scenery is the best thing about this place. We enjoyed our afternoon here and are hoping to catch a distillery tour at some point! Note: The management treats the Stillhouse Venue distinct from the Distillery. I had an expired Groupon which states that the $25 paid is good towards the business so I was hoping I could just use this towards our dinner bill, but they wouldn't accept it. In town celebrating a few birthdays and taking the tour at the distillery so we booked reservations for dinner. Have to email for reservations but they replied quickly and we were set. Cute small restaurant and hostess greeted us warmly and got seated. Drinks - nice selection including some of their own bourbon and shine. Everything tasted fresh and delicious. Food - had fun trying a variety. We had appetizers (fried green tomatoes and spinach dip), broccoli cheddar soup, burgers and chicken cordon blue. Only minor complaint was the soup wasn't quite hot enough but everything tasted so great we were pleased. Service- our waitress hustled and the staff all worked together to keep things moving. Nothing like description and pictures, including menu shown on website. Called ahead to make a reservation for Sunday dinner. Person who answer said great & would be open till 3:30. Upon arrival noticed only 3 cars in parking lot. We we the only customers in the entire place. The fellow who waited on us explained the menu had changed and they only served sandwiches. That would explain why on a Sunday afternoon the entire place was empty. We are here a year ago there was a full menu with excellent food. We traveled 60 miles to this off the beaten path destination expecting to have a wonderful dinner. Instead we had a very poor dining experience, so disappointed. This is the only place in 60 mile radius to get really high quality food. The atmosphere is sophisticated but the setting is peaceful and quiet. It takes FOREVER to get food, but it is more than worth the wait. You also get to spend the time waiting for food enjoying an amazing cocktail on the deck and looking out over the beautiful rolling hills of the large farm the restaurant sits on. About two weeks ago, I had dinner with my boyfriend and a friend at the scenic Stillhouse Restaurant. It's located in the heart of Short Mountain, with breathtaking views of the landscape and sunsets. It's also adjacent to the distillery so you can pop in for some moonshine or tasty whiskey pre or post-meal! The waitstaff here was very attentive and personable, and although the dining room was rather empty besides another party or two (it was a dreary Thursday evening), I can imagine the same amount of attention would be received even during a peak time. The exterior of the restaurant is stunning, with its lush goldfish pond, the flower beds, and a small patio. The interior was equally impressive, with intimate lighting, several rooms of seating, clean bathrooms, and lots of nifty pieces of hart adorning the walls. I would definitely recommend ordering an APPETIZER, as the wait is typically between 30-45 minutes. With good company and a tasty appetizer (try the Fried Green Tomatoes--they're the best I've ever tasted!), the wait shouldn't be an issue. It's also worth it because once you get your meal, it's obvious everything is locally-sourced and made fresh just for you. The restaurant is new, but I told the owner it was some of the best food I had ever tasted. And I wasn't lying! This place is ideal for business lunches, dates, or catching up with old friends. NOTE: Apparently they don't yet have a liquor license, but you can always bring your own bottle or hit up Short Mountain Distillery conveniently located right next door! read more

Mixed feelings about the experience. One member of my party was not happy at all. The main problem is the time it takes to receive food. When we did finally get our food mine was delicious. I had a veggie pita and Mac and cheese. 2 others had burgers and 1 had a BLT. They were all pleased also. The lady that waited on us didn't check on us too much. I had a couple of heavy tea drinkers with me that complained. They were pretty busy it was a Saturday afternoon but no way it should have taken over a hour to get our food. A hidden gem, Stillhouse is a locally-owned restaurant and wedding venue, located in rolling fields near Short Mountain, next door to the historic Short Mountain liquor distillery, where you can take a tour. The food is casual sophisticated Southern with an artisanal, locally sourced style and a surprisingly flexible menu. I attended a great wedding here. The main ballroom is large but intimate and well-lit with great views. There are large bathrooms for a big party and even changing rooms for a bridal party. The professional kitchen is enormous. The staff is sweet, efficient, eccentric and alternative, like this area of outer Nashville. Love it! read more

If you travel a lot like I do to places where a good meal is hard to find, then you'll understand my glee at discovering this rare gem tucked away in Cannon County. The Stillhouse Restaurant located next door to The Short Mountain Distillery near Woodbury really gave me quite a treat recently! A friend in the area told me they were reopening with new chefs from San Francisco and New York! I love eating in both of those places! I had plans to be in Nashville and had to travel near the Short Mountain area to get there, so I figured I'd check it out for brunch. I had some extra time and always wanted to do a Distillery tour, so why not? The signs to the Distillery were everywhere so it was easy to find. What a delightful and engaging surprise to find off the beaten path! As soon as you drive through the gate you are welcomed with a sense of special. I can't really explain it, but you just know that something magical is happening here. I recommend getting an outdoor table if you can because the view is about as pastoral as you can get! I can barely imagine a more quaint setting than this. It's just so lovely there. As soon as I saw that Chicken and Waffles was on the menu I knew where I was heading. Being a Southerner at heart, anyone who can make a good chicken and waffles wins in my book. Hello yes, win they did! It was as good (maybe better;)) as any I ever made. I followed it up with the Moonshine Brownie with Ice Cream and was not disappointed. I love their clever uses of their products available at the Distillery. Kudos to the new team of chefs! I overheard a conversation between someone who works there and a woman. They were discussing an upcoming wedding there and making plans. I thought what a beautiful rural setting to get married. If I ever decided to get married again, i imagine it would be in a lovely setting like this. After a short hike to Twin Falls at Rock Island State Park we meandered along the country roads to Short Mountain. I had heard about Stillhouse Restaurant but had no idea what to expect. We drove past the Short Mountain Distillery to the Stillhouse restaurant at about 2 pm on a Friday afternoon. Not knowing if they were even serving at that time we apprehensively walked in to be greeted by the owner with a warm welcome. He seated us outside at a lovely table with a view of the rolling hills, cows and donkeys grazing and bright yellow butterflies slowly fluttering by in their late August, end of summer dance. We had the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer and cocktails. As our lunch entrée we had the chicken salad plate and the cobb salad. All the prepared items were fresh, light and delicious. Simply done but artfully presented and not overly salted or seasoned. This was the perfect place to come during our day trip from the Nashville area. A peaceful setting and yet an elegant escape from the daily grind of the work week. read more

Stillhouse is by far one of the BEST places to eat in Woodbury TN and the surrounding Murfreesboro area! The owner, Todd, and his staff make you feel right at home. They check on you throughout your visit, making sure you are satisfied with everything!! I had the Blackened Catfish Fish dinner. I set out on a personal adventure to visit the Short Mountain Distillery and Stillhouse Restaurant. It was an incredible surprise, such a jewel in the rough. My lunch of Cauliflower Bisque and Bacon Reuben were exquisite. From the warm personal greeting at the front door by the hostess through the accomodating tour of the restaurant by Gary, the Assistant Manager, to the last crumb of a delicious luncheon met all my desires for a special day. Arriving on a day during the Halloween Haunted Trail program, I was delighted to be entertained by Bluegrass music and mountain tales of moonshining and living on the land. Thanks to Ben, Ricky, Gary, and all unnamed staff and family who made me feel welcome. Everything was well planned, prepared, and conducted. A lovely day. I had high hopes for this restaurant; it has many things going for it, great setting, nice building and friendly staff, however I was disappointed. There were only a few items on the menu, basically a chicken sandwich, hamburger or salad and french fries. The salad with moonshine vinaigrette, chicken sandwich and fries were okay, but nothing special. The hamburger was terrible. Though friendly and welcoming, the restaurant was understaffed. I would like to see them succeed, so I hope they can correct the issues they have. read more

First time to visit. Went for lunch and can't wait to go back for dinner. We highly recommend the cauliflower bisque. We shared a bowl, won't make that mistake again. Matthew, our waiter, said you can bring your own wine or buy a small bottle from the neighboring distillery and there is no corkage fee. The owner came by to check on our meal and explained that everything comes from within a 250 mile radius. The beef is from the farm itself. Great experience. Will definitely return soon. read more

WOW! What a difference a week makes.... Ate there on Sunday May 24, 2015 was pretty impressed with only a couple of minor hiccups. So decided to take family to the restaurant tonight May 30, 2015 and what a DISASTER!!!!! 1st off at the prices some type of bread should be served as it a very long wait to get anything to eat. It took 30 minutes to get appetizer's, Stuffed mushrooms was on the verge of being uneatable, fried green tomatoes was good. However, 30 minutes later main course arrived, was wanting the Ribeye but was told they were out, they only have new York strip, no big deal. Two in the party order the New York Strip, I ordered the Pork Medallions. Finally they main course arrived, Steaks were stone cold, Pork Medallions was actually very thin sliced pork... No Medallions about it... The smashed cauliflower had a burnt taste. Time for dessert. according to the waitress they only had 1 chose which was chocolate Cobbler? whatever that is, and the waitress had no clue either. The management and staff seemed VERY UNORGINIZED. Restaurant was "SOLD OUT" well there was only 3 tables of guest at the time we were there. and was in the restaurant for well over an hour... Would love to see a nice restaurant in the area without traveling 40 minutes. But they are going to have to do better. read more

Had a great time at the Stillhouse restaurant. We had dinner reservations and were promptly seated. Found out they will get a liquor license at the end of June so we brought our own bottle of wine which was quickly opened for us. We had gracious staff...Service was slow but we enjoyed the music and atmosphere while waiting. The food was hot and delicious. I got a chicken fettuccine with pan seared veggies. Licked it clean. Would like to sit outside at one of the tables in good weather. Also, I want to get over to try a brunch soon. read more

From the first sip of unsweet ice tea which was excellent to the first taste of the honey bourbon fresh churned butter, I began getting very excited over the next taste adventure. I love to cook and rarely find a restaurant that I would recommend or look forward to dining at for a 2nd time. Stillhouse more than pleased me. My group ordered the burgers, the catfish, the pork tenderloin and the shrimp with grits. Every meal was excellent and plentiful amounts. The prices are very reasonable especially for the quality of the food and the creative preparation. The view is outstanding and being able to stroll around the property after an excellent meal was a real treat. The only negative was the slow service but the owner came to our table and chatted and made sure we were comfortable. Once I tasted the food, the slow service was no longer a negative. Kinks to work out...Stillhouse is a beautiful restaurant in a gorgeous setting. However, we either caught them at a very bad time or this new restaurant has a lot of room for improvement. I was with a party of six, and when we arrived, 1:00 on Sunday, the staff was very friendly and accommodating. Once we were seated, I became a little concerned when I noticed none of the other patrons (five tables) were eating. Once we ordered, it took 43 minutes (I actually set my iPhone stopwatch) for the waitress to bring our order. There were several things wrong....omelet ordered with everything just had cheese; two burgers were ordered and received one and a chicken a waffle, all fries, home fries, and chicken strips from kids menu were cold (not even slightly warm). Since we waited so long for our food, we didn't bring anything to the waitress' attention accept for the chicken and waffle mix up, which was promptly replaced with a burger (the burgers were actually very good) with cold home fries :(. I was prepared to express our disappointing experience but no one to include the waitress, supervisor, or hostess, ever engaged us with the simple courtesy of 'is everything ok' or 'how did you like your food?'. Even though our first outing at the Stillhouse was not a pleasant one, I really hope they can work things out. I am a local and I am really excited about the good things Short Mountain Distillery is doing for our community. Stillhouse has the potential to be the go-to place in middle Tennessee. I'll give it another shot later on. Hopefully, future reviews will persuade me to come back sooner than later. read more

We took guests from North Carolina to dinner 8/27/15 and were VERY disappointed!!!! My husband ordered the rib eye--it may have been 1/4 inch thick, no steak knife. His garlic mashed potatoes were lumpy. I had the chefs salad which was all lettuce, no tomatoes, a few strips of red peppers and red onions; very little chicken, salami, prosciutto. As we received no rolls or bread, I ordered a side of hush puppies. When they finally arrived, they looked like charcoal briquettes! When I stated to the waitress the hush puppies were very brown, she replied "Oh, are they?" I requested another order but when it arrived, it looked like the same order I had sent back. One of our party ordered shrimp and grits--she had 4 shrimp. The only one who was satisfied with their meal was the person who ordered catfish. The kitchen is downstairs from the dining room which resulted in the waitress bringing one order at a time. The setting was very nice but I didn't go for the setting, I went for a good meal.
