Door failed after two years of use. Originally I gave a stellar review but after my door jumped the track and got racked by the door opener, I remind my original review. The installer that replaced my door said that the side jambs should have been extended out to keep the door from "floating". Instead the door should have been gliding on the side door jambs. I posted on Home Advisor a rather vague description of my garage door issue. Within 2 hours, I received a request from Luis to bid on my project. I provided my phone number and received a prompt call. Luis asked several spot-on questions that helped me explain the problem. He offered to stop by and look at it at around 10:30 am, and he was right on schedule. I thought I had a broken pulley, but he showed me clearly that both springs were broken. Had a door installed last month by a A&L employee. Installation went fine but was disappointed that only one controller was included. The guy wanted 40 bucks for another but said he would take $30 cash. I passed. The receipt had no business header. I phoned Luis the owner about the situation. Apparently its normal practice to offer a cash low-ball deal. Luis said he would mail me a proper receipt and another controller. Weeks later and nothing. I'm going elsewhere next time. read more

I called A&L this morning and Luis said they would by around noon. They were here about 11:30 and determined that my issue was the sensors were out of alignment making it necessary to override the remote closers to open/close the door. He showed me how to check and realign the sensors in the future and serviced the entire door and verified that the opener motor was in good shape. In the process of verifying the opening/closing of the door, he discovered that where the mechanism attaches to the door was broken and about to fail completely which would have resulted in major repair. Luis is amazing. We are a new construction and had a custom door built and was shipped with no springs or other equipment.....We had 3 garage door companies that all claimed they could do the work. None did. It was clear in working with these companies that they didn't understand the basics of how garage door springs work nor were they interested in thinking outside the box a little -- especially with a heavy door like ours. My husband is an engineer and did the calculations, called the spring company and had them made. Luis came in and worked for an hour and had the door running! Needless to say I'm very very pleased. I bought a house with an ANCIENT garage door. Couldn't even lift the thing. To save some money, I ordered a new garage door from the Home Depot website, and my boyfriend was going to install it. When it finally arrived (months later), it was the wrong model (no windows). Home Depot said they would have to schedule a pickup, issue a refund, then I would have to re-order the same door that I had already bought. Insane! Instead, I decided to find a local company that could both provide a door and install it. I couldn't be happier with A&L Garage Doors! I emailed 6-8 companies and Luis was the first to respond (within the hour). We had a chat and he said he had a door that could be installed within a couple of days, all for a great price!! One company took 3 hours to let me know (when I called them back 2 times) they could do it in 3 days time! I have to say that I was THRILLED with the work. Carlos (I think?) had all the right tools for the job, worked fast, fixed the door that was broken with a new spring AND serviced the second door (which had begun to stick, half way down!) He explained about what was wrong, how to take care, greased, tightened many bolts etc. We knew they were old doors, and he said 20 to 25 years old. I learned that we do NOT have to buy new doors! Yeah! and that one motor is nearing the end, and would need replacing when it breaks down again. I will definitely go to A & L for that. The only small problem was that he was late. I was thrilled when I called A & L on Saturday morning (after getting a referral from a friend) and Luis was at my house giving me an estimate just 25 minutes later. He gave me a quote that I felt was a good one- and said he could come on Monday. I explained that I work in Healdsburg- but could come home to Santa Rosa on my lunch hour if the repair was going to be quick- as he said it would be. We scheduled an appointment for Monday at noon. I came home from work a little before noon. I waited... and waited... and waited... A couple of hours later I called him (and was very nice!)- and he explained he had gotten called to an emergency job and was in Petaluma- but would be heading over in 15 minutes. I told him it wasn't a problem- and that I'd look forward to seeing him soon. Then I waited... and waited... and waited... I called again at 5- and he didn't answer. He hasn't returned my message. I'm a very understanding person- and all it would have taken was a follow up call- but I didn't get that- I heard nothing from him. I am not one to write a nasty review- but the lack of customer service or appreciation for someone else's time- is completely rude and unacceptable. Nothing is more frustrating than having someone waste a half of your day- when you are taking time off work and are expecting to get something taken care of. My garage door is still broken- and now I have to take time off tomorrow to meet with another company. Very annoying. read more
