They were extremely kind! They stopped and offered to help us in the middle of the night to help me and my mother change our tire. So many people drove past us and a & m service center didnt know us from a can of paint but helped us and only charged 20 dollars. i do not recommend A&m auto in Mechanicsburg. I was going there for my interlock ignition. if you need somewhere for interlock ripp'n rides in new Cumberland is cheaper and has a way nicer waiting room. i went to a&m for an oil change and asked Chris If he could have them reset my maintenance light . He said you also have a rear lightbulb out . I said I know about that and the light still lights up so I'm not worried about that . He mumbled under his breath I'll have them look at it anyways . He ended up charging me for it even though I said i don't want that service done . read more

NEVER EVER take your car to A & M full auto care center. My husband and I have been taking our cars here for a few years now and never had any issues when it was ran by a previous owner. Who seems to no longer be there. I took my car here in May for inspection and was told I needed new tires to pass- I paid for 4 brand new tires. Yesterday when I was leaving work I realized I had a flat tire. I called the shop and asked to drop the tire off to have it looked at since I just purchased it a MONTH ago. I dropped it off last night and didn't get any call back.. I called on my lunch at work today (after waiting all morning/afternoon for a phone call) and was told the tire was not able to be repaired. I asked the guy what was going to be done - since I just bought this tire. He said he'd talk to the "manager" and give me a call back, asking for my contact information again, even though I gave it to them when I dropped the tire off? ... He called back and told me there was no warranty and nothing they could do.. and quoted me for a new tire ($110) .. when I asked what was wrong with the tire, he told me there was a slice deep in the thread and that they tried to repair it but couldn't. When I dropped off this tire there was no slice, no rip, no nail, NOTHING. 3 people looked at this tire before I dropped it off and could find nothing wrong with it. I am LIVID and I've reported them to the better business bureau. Please don't EVER go there and save your money. The pictures attached are the poor attempt that was made to fix the "slice"... Not to mention, on a separate occasion when my husband was waiting for his car to be inspected back on May 24th- he witnessed a "mechanic" drive over a stack of tires that were in the parking lot - with HIS car. It seems now that this "auto center" has been taken over by somebody else, it has gone DOWN HILL. Again, don't waste your money. read more

Took a car here for inspection. Was quoted $400. By the time I picked the car up, work was done that was neither needed nor authorized by myself and the bill was now $900! The window had an inspection sticker placed on it, however this was not legitimate as 2 brake lights were not fixed and I was still charged for their repair! I would have gotten a more fair shake at a Midas or a dealership. Never again. Avoid this place at all costs. Expensive, inconvenient, shady and not done correctly are all bad things. read more

This shop was good when it was run by Al. He was honest and fair. In two consecutive months I've had two different vehicles inspected there (this place and the place next door on the corner are one in the same). Both times I was given info (scare tactics?) about things leaking, "but not on the exhaust yet", but would likely (need?) to be fixed before next year in order to pass inspection. In the first occasion it was axle seals, the second, valve cover gaskets. It was remembering the first one that caused me to question BS on the second. Background - I've worked on my own cars for the last 25 years...mostly because I'm pretty good at it, it saves $$$, and I don't trust garages. I know how to maintain my vehicles, and it's why I can drive 20 year old cars that work fine. I'm not ASE certified, but I've turned plenty of wrenches in my time. The only work I don't do on my own are tire changes and alignments because I don't have the equipment to do so. Moving along, a weep, or even a gusher, from an axle seal has virtually no chance of ever getting on the exhaust in a front wheel drive GM 3800 with a 4t65e transmission. If you have one, open the hood and look, the crossover pipe goes OVER the top of the bell housing, and the downpipe goes straight down the center. The axles are on the sides. Yes, a leaking valve cover gasket could spew oil on the exhaust very easily. HOWEVER, there is NOTHING in the inspection regulations (available on the PennDot website) for passenger vehicles that makes any reference whatsoever about engine oil or transmission leaks, or ANY kind of leak and the chances of it getting on the exhaust/potentially starting a fire. The only specific mentions of leaks are fuel lines, brake lines, exhaust, and, tangentially, the steering system (via power steering hoses). I mentioned the regulations (valve cover issue) to the person that completed the checkout, and after a back and forth and his spiel about "oil getting on the exhaust" I got an eventual reply of, "I don't have an inspection license, I'll have to talk to my tech about that." Immediately after I got home from the shop I checked around both the front and rear valve covers. The rear was a bit of a pain in the azz to check because I had to remove the coil pack. No liquid oil was felt/seen around the entire edge of either cover (the car uses virtually no oil), and 7 of 8 of the valve cover bolts (4 on each bank) were tight. I didn't want to pull the alternator to access one bolt on the lower back side, but running my finger along that corner, it was dry in that area. Was it grimy...sure. Was there a noticeable leak...no. This was on a GM 3100 engine. Of important note - the valve cover gaskets on this car were replaced when the intake gaskets were replaced only about 25k miles ago. They aren't leaking. Also on the "sheet" I was provided at checkout was a recommendation for intake gaskets...to which I responded they were already changed, which garnered a response of, "We recommend that to everyone." Yeah... They don't know the inspection regulations (it's a safety inspection, not a verification that the engine and transmission are in showroom condition), and/or they are trying to drum-up business by claiming inconsequential or non-existent gasket/seal leaks either "at the moment", or by planting the seed for next year's inspection...when you get screwed because they mentioned it last year. Had they tried to fail my inspection for the non-existent valve cover leak I'd have referred them to the quality assurance officer for the county. Indicating a false repair to pass an inspection is punishable by a 4 month license suspension (also in the regulations). I'll be taking my vehicles somewhere else next year. Wherever I go next year I'll have a paper copy of the regs handy just in case I get any crap. This is the first time I've ever been ticked off enough to write a yelp review of anything, but people trying to take advantage of other people is something that irritates me very much. read more
