Grab some specialty coffee from Storm coffee in town got in our car and headed down the road for a long road trip. Popped open the goods and immediately was met with disappointment . The raspberry tart was ice cold and hard maybe partially frozen? Likewise, the sausage turnover was very cold inside. Not sure if that's how they sell them. In my opinion they should offer to at least heat them up or warn the customer that they're not ready to eat. On the good side, the chocolate chip cookies were delicious. Unfortunately, we were too far down the road and did not have time to return. This is not a condemnation on Turner bakery because I've heard nothing but fabulous things but this was just our first experience unfortunately but we will be back but we will ask more questions obviously . Not sure if these are refrigerated from the previous day or night or they got that cold from opening till 11 AM when we picked them up? Service was quick and friendly. I went with a cinnamon roll, two plain bagels, and two cookies: one ultimate chocolate chip and one peanut butter. I also got cream cheese for the bagel. The cinnamon roll was huge, pillowy, and very delicious. It was a little light on the cinnamon for my tastes, but I would definitely get it again. The bagels were pretty good. Nothing amazing, but a solid bagel chewy texture with good flavor. The cream cheese seemed to be whipped, which was a thoughtful touch. The cookies were huge, and both had a nice soft texture and rich flavor. The ultimate chocolate chip seemed to have maybe a caramel swirl along with chocolate chips. Very decadent! And the peanut butter was rich and chewy, with good peanut butter flavor. This place is a bit of a drive from me, but I will definitely be back some Sunday in the future to try some more of their extensive and tasty offerings.

And today (January 5th, 2021) was their grand opening at their new location, which is in the parking lot of an Office Depot. I ordered a Melon bread, Anpan (a sweet roll with sweet red bean paste inside), a Bacon cheese bread, and a Curry bread. The service was very friendly! The treats were all delicious, but I think my favorites were the Anpan and the Curry bread. The Anpan was soft and the red bean paste tasty with a complex sweetness. The Curry bread was filled with delicious Japanese curry and had a crunchy crust. I am so happy something like this is available in Salem and will be back to try their other offerings soon!

Regular grocery stores can't hold a candle to the bread they offer. It doesn't need butter or anything on it, although sometimes I add honey. No weird ingredients. Very satisfying and filling when served with a cup tea and slice of cheese and a hardboiled egg for breakfast.

We also recalled that there was some connection to Gerry Frank's Konditorei in Salem, which immediately caught our interest. After doing a little research, we discovered there's a deep and fascinating history linking the two businesses. The Lovin Oven began in 1983, when founder Doreen Helmemn operated the bakery out of her home. In 1993, the business expanded into a small storefront in downtown Stayton after being purchased by Mike and Valerie Schultz. Mike, who was formerly a logger, was personally taught cake decorating by the original founder, an origin story that adds to the bakery's charm and authenticity. One of the most interesting details we learned is that The Lovin Oven is the primary baker for Gerry Frank's Konditorei in Salem, a partnership that dates back to the 1980s. That relationship grew even stronger in 2017, when the Schultzes became co-owners of the Konditorei. Many people enjoying desserts at high-end restaurants throughout the region may not realize that their cakes were baked in Stayton. The Lovin Oven is especially well known for its Champagne Raspberry cake, Marionberry cheesecake, and an impressive variety of gourmet bars and cookies. Their menu also includes cakes, cheesecakes, cinnamon rolls, brownies, cupcakes, and more, something for just about every dessert preference.
