I cannot walk by without following my nose into Pure Decadence. Heidi makes everything the best. I made Wedding Cakes for years and have been known to be a good cook. I rarely bake anymore but hubby was begging me to make his favorite Oatmeal cookies. I stopped in at Pure Decadence and bought him one. He said it was the best cookie he ever ate. First, we love this bakery and it is definitely our go to. We tried a different bakery (highly rated) since we were desperate for some sweets on a Sunday. We spent a fortune there and ended up trashing most of what we purchased. Pure decadence is the best bakery in this town, hands down. It is reasonably priced, well flavored, and full of delicious pastries and deserts. While we knew this, our stint at the other bakery really reinforced our thoughts. Chocolate. Marshmallow. Cookie. Really I should need to say no more. It is heaven in cookie form. I walked by regularly when going to get my mail and nerry a crumb crossed my lips. That was until I learned that Heidi makes an awesome chocolate marshmallow cookie. It totally takes me back to going to Cookies with Love with my mom when I was a kid. It has been fun getting to know Heidi and popping in to say hi or talk about different restaurants and such when I run in to get my mail at the Mail Depot. She has also been helpful when I have been faced with a recipe challenge involving a gluten free member of my family. Oh, that's another thing, she always has a selection of things that are gluten free, lactose free and vegan. Counter intuitive to my way of thinking, but I know these things are of concern to people and can it can be challenging to find desserts that meet these requirements. I have tried other things and had Heidi put together boxes of goodies for various parties and such, and everything has received rave reviews, but I will always come back to the chocolate marshmallow cookie. read more

We moved to South Salem over the summer. This bakery is one of the first places we visited and we've been going back each week. I anxiously await for Thursday morning for her to open. They have the best scones I have ever eaten. My favorite is cranberry orange but yesterday we had pumpkin scones that were delicious! We shared a cheese danish. I found out that at the end of the day (4-5) they sell the pastries and other goodies for $1 each! This little bakery is located inside the Mail Depot on Liberty St. They offer fine pastries such as eclairs, tarts and cakes; plus the usual danishes, scones, coffee cakes, cookies, cupcakes, etc. They also have a small offering of ice creams and beverages. There is enough room to eat your treats in-store if you wish to, but the atmosphere isn't that of a coffee shop... it's more of a grab and go place. The owners are friendly and cheerful. I've had their raspberry coffee cake, marionberry empanadas, and a variety of scones; all delicious. My husband found their scones a little dry for his taste; to each his own. By the way, their scones (and maybe danishes and cookies too, I forget) are only $1 during the last hour they're open, 5-6. I ordered a vegan grad cake 9" to feed 25 people. The cake was beautifully decorated, way better than I expected. Very pleased. But the cake when cut, fell apart, the frosting slid off, it was embarrassing to cut in front of people. It took 3 people to keep it from falling, while being cut. The cake was so heavy, I know it was vegan/gf, but it was the consistency of dry banana bread. The flavor of the frosting and filling were good. But more went in the garbage then into my guests.
