That alone isn't the problem but without clear communication, it makes planning difficult. He did text that he was 18 mins away, 20 mins into the wait. And by that time, he was 20 mins late from that estimate. He came into my apt and QUICKLY fixed the clog with a drain auger (?). It seriously took 1 minute. I asked him if he could then take a look at my toilet as well to see WHY I keep having this problem. He takes one look at it and says you need an ENTIRELY NEW TOILET and quoted me $600. He didn't look at the tank, do any sort of inspection. I said wow that seems extreme to have to replace the whole toilet, you haven't even taken a look. He said he knows these sorts of toilets and that I'd need a new one. I asked him to send me a quote so I could share with my landlord. Never received the quote! He charged me $150! I get that is the service fee but I don't think that's fair for 1 min of work and not even taking the time to inspect the toilet to see what could be wrong with it. Asked another plumber to check out my toilet. They replaced some parts and now it's flushing appropriately. They had much better prices and better professionalism. He said the job would take 5 hours and he would have to break the wall in my dining room to run the line which would cost $1350 plus an initial $175 consultation fee and said 1/2 the funds were due upfront so I paid him $700. Upon consultation, he noted there was an electrical box already sitting 2ft from the outlet and said if I can run a line from this box to the outlet I will only charge $175 consultation fee since there's not much work involved. He returned with a worker and was able to connect to the box next to the outlet, it took him a little over an hour to TRACE the line from the basement to the box, without have to break walls and run a hard line from the basement. He then charged me $905 and ended up requesting an I became upset. This is not what he promise. I asked him for a breakdown of what he's charging for, he said he charges for a minimum of 2.5 hours plus he needed an extra man (which he also charged for) for the job so the work was shared and both of them had to be paid and he's charging for materials?!?? There were no materials involved except that he relaxed the sockets. I did not pay him the extra $205 because to run a simple electrical line from a nearby box to an outlet does not cost $700! DO NOT pay the contractors any monies upfront. If they are legit and have a business, they should have the funds to cover the job and collect after the work is finished.
