I was going to my son-in-law and daughter's house to celebrate my youngest grandson's birthday so I ordered one and a half chickens along with the family size order of fries and coleslaw along with a five piece order of chicken tenders and it was all quite tasty as always. Upon finishing our meal I noticed that there were three backs in the pieces that were left over. How do you get three backs out of 1.5 chickens? They obviously don't check for the right number of parts. It's seems a small thing to complain about but at $50 for the meal the backs have nearly no meat on them and so it actually raises the cost of the meal. I called ahead and they were very prompt in bringing the food out and the young lady was very courteous who delivered the food and took the payment. Americana at its best! Pulling up to the actual carhop A&W was like stepping back in time, puddle skirts, Wolfman Jack DJ'ing the pirate radio spinning 45s, and making out in the back seat! Ok, maybe not all that but it did give my wife and me a rush of nostalgia from simpler days gone by when service was fast, friendly, polite, and hung on a tray from your driver's side window. Not all A&Ws are the same or have the same menu. Some I've gone in are very modern and have the typical surly fast food help, sticky chairs, and so-so food with good rootbeer. Pulling into this A&W seems like little has changed in all the right ways. Pickup trucks lined up on our side with farmers, construction workers, and other blue-collar folks to have lunch. Friendly staff come out to the car and take your order, only now they have remote card readers. But the menu board painted on plywood in front of the cars is still there. The waitresses still wear those chrome change devices on their hips and they still know how to count back change correctly (few people do anymore). Our food came out fast, it was good and fairly priced. We listened to the farm report and investment news for agriculture on the radio while we enjoyed a meal from the tray mounted on the window. Even simple things like bringing out a cold bottle of catchup for the fries instead of those little wasteful foil packets that create a lot of trash matter. When you're done, you turn on your headlights and someone comes out and collects the tray. As we drove away I put on a 50s rock and roll playlist on my iPhone and we both said if we lived here we would be in every week. Im not one to make a review, cause ive never experienced a TRUE bad experience anywhere, but tonight was definitely my first bad experience. If I could give 0 stars, I would. This was mine & my bf's first time here & we were hoping this place would be a new "go too" date night spot for us. Sadly it will not be. When we got there service was quick. They got our order taken rather quickly. Starting off so good but then it took a massive turn downhill. We waited well over an hr for our food. (1hr 15mins) It would of been meh okay if we didnt have a 10mo old with us. (no worries. we came prepared). I had noticed most of the employees were inside chitchatting it up & giggling over their phones. Time was not managed properly by staff. We were thinking since it was taking so long, it was going to come out fresh & hot. I was very wrong. My food was cold and had the taste that it had been sitting out for a while. Gross. We were also missing items from our order, which we then received after asking 10 mins later for. All in all, if youre looking to go out for dinner, I wouldnt recommend this spot. Maybe if you have an extreme amount of patience. But then again, youre looking at getting cold food in the end. Very bad experience. Hate to say it, but we wont be back. They should go into the funeral home business because you will spend eternity waiting on your food. Used to be awesome, but now it is absolutely ridiculous. 3 times in a row wait for food was over an hour. Culver's needs to develop a coney cheese dog and no one would have any reason to go to this stand. The ambiance is wait a long time for cold food while developing back pain and cramps from sitting in the car. If that's what you're into, then this place is for you. They will be eternally grateful while you spend the rest of your days hoping your food is next. Sadly, this place has went the way of The Bears Den in Shelbyville. I drive 30 minutes to the restaurant. Maybe if I ever am dumb enough to come back, I'll call as I'm leaving the house so the wait will only be an hour. My biggest regret is I've sent a lot of customers to them and will have to apologize to all the people I've sent there for the disgrace the restaurant has became. I heard on several occasions that they had great chicken but didn't believe an A&W would have good chicken. I was wrong. My wife and I tried it today and it was excellent. You get real chicken pieces, not planks or patties. I had a thigh, a wing, and a leg along with fries and cole slaw. It was hot, tender and tasty. The breading was somewhere in the center of KFC original and crispy with a little more pepper. The cole slaw was also excellent. Sort of a cream style. Fries were Krinkle fries and also very good. I would prefer mashed potatoes and gravy rather than fries but still give them 5 stars for quality of food and service. A bonus was they take your order in person at your car so you don't have to punch the red button and talk to Charlie Brown's teacher!! Located over by the Ford dealership a block or so off Route 3. Exactly what you want from a burger stand. Or more importantly, a root beer stand! We stopped by here for a quick lunch while we were out shopping for garden needs. We arrived right at noon, the joint is on a busy intersection, so be careful pulling in and out into your spots. The car hops pop out and take orders, they like many others are a bit short staffed, but doing their best!! We each ordered a bacon cheeseburger, his was a double and we shared a fry. Of course we got some root beer! A/W is a great vanilla taste. In the end, glad we stopped in. I'm a sucker for a diner style burger, thaws guys left a bit to be desired. Definitely a step above a common fast food burger, but I feel that the quality could go up a bit, maybe in size or ingredients. Couldn't quite put my finger on it. Fun stop while out and about. I grew up in Greensburg, Indiana. This was always a fun place to go - so, I do have some nostalgia about A&W Drive In. But still, it is a flash from the past that keeps on keeping on. A&W Root Beer really is best out of the tap in a frosty mug. Get one here. I personally like the foot long coney dog or the pizza burger and the fries. This is not a foodie place. It is a drive-in with drive-in food. Fun. Instructions: Drive up, turn your car off. Turn your lights off until you are ready to order. The menu is posted outside. When you know what you want, turn your lights on. The waiter/waitress will come to you, take your order. Turn your lights off. Your food will be brought to you when it's ready. This place has been open since I was a kid. They have great food and their fried chicken is excellent. You have to order the chicken a head of time. They make their own root beer and sell it by the mug by the 1/2 gallon as well as by the gallon. Everything on their menu is very good well worth the visit. For me, getting the fried chicken here is one of the best things about being in Greensburg. As sam w. said, this is a pretty unique aspect of this particular drive-in. I think the only fried chicken I've had that is better was at a wedding where it was homemade. The chicken is always moist and flavorful with lots of meat on the bones. The skin is light and crisp. It's not too salty and there is a little kick of pepper that makes my mouth water just thinking about it! I love how it is never too greasy. They make your chicken fresh, so call ahead if you don't want to hang about at the drive-in. It takes about 20 minutes. They also have the regular A&W menu so you can get fried cheese curds or a coney dog or their delicious root beer floats. My one complaint is that their "biscuits" are actually dinner rolls. I love how they don't have little electronic ordering boxes. You just flip on your lights and someone comes out to your car. The service isn't always super fast, but it is such a big place for just a few servers. I always marvel at how strong they are - they have to carry around those jangling change belts along with bags and trays full of drive-in goodness. If you are ever in Greensburg, I highly recommend stopping in here. It is my one, absolutely must-do thing in this town. Best Bone-In Fried Chicken Ever! This is a dish unique to this particular A&W. The chicken is from a local farm, and instead of cutting the breasts in to halves, they serve fronts and backs. They also have the usual A&W fare -- Burgers, Fries and Root Beer Floats in a frosty mug! It's fun to pick up food from here and take it to the park. Of all the Greensburg Trifecta (the three food joints you should always try to eat at when visiting, no matter how short your time -- Pizza King, Stories, A&W and/or sometimes Dairy Point), A&W is probably my favorite. My buddy and I stopped here on our drive to Indy. We had to stop and get has and since restaurant wasn't far away he wanted to check it out. Everyone knows that A&W is known for the root beer float so my buddy ordered that and loved it. We didn't have the time to order fried chicken, but next time driving through will check it out. I give them a "1" because ZERO is not an option. On 3/27/21 around 8:30 PM I repeatedly called to place a carry out order. Finally I decided to drive there and place the order in person. I asked the waitress if the phone was broke she said "it's been ringing off the hook." The place was extremely busy. While setting there I continued to call them with no response. Finally after the 50th try and coincidentally after the place cleared out they answered the phone. Clearly proving the phone was not down. After my carry out was delivered I asked my waitress to summons the manager. BTW the waitress was an innocent person in this no answering scheme so I still gave her a $5 tip on a $25.92 order for a carry out! About 5-10 minutes later the waitress came out and told me the manager who is also the owner would NOT be coming out to address my concerns. She did offer me her name and phone number. I accepted the information and told the waitress I knew exactly what was going on. I told her she could relay to the owner/manager the screen shot of the 51 phone calls to prove the poor business practices. When I did this the waitresses eyes about popped out and her mouth dropped open. This shenanigan of refusing to answer the phone when they're busy is poor business practice, the refusal of the owner/manger to come and address my concern is the epitome of terrible costumer service. I already had paid with CC and gave the waitress a tip so obviously I wasn't after a free meal or discount, all I wanted was to display my displeasure at an establishment I frequently visit. read more

Fast car service during the lunch break brings me in along with Double Bacon Cheese Burger. A real treat for the family is their great fried chicken. My Daddy did an amazing job of getting my brother and I cultured Hoosier. When we were small he'd want to get out of the city and into some local small town. Greensburg was one of those culture stops. He'd drive us out there and let us both order our own delicious floats at the Drive-In. We'd chug the frothy-golden-beers of root and smile all the while watching the girls skate out to the cars. If anything, go for the nostalgia. The waiter did not understand the menu board. We ordered cheeseburgers and she brought 1/4 cheeseburgers. She then replaced them, but told us they were jr. cheeseburgers although the sign didn't call them that. Then we were charged more than the sign said. I called in 2 days later and the lady said oh the sign said jr.. cheeseburger and the correct price. If you are going to charge more than what your signs says then change the sign. Very disappointed. We have had chicken from this place many times and have told many people about this restaurant because we used to think their chicken was the best. What in the world has happened?
