They used to have a location in downtown / Old Town Ventura near Peirano's Grocery. I believe they had this location at the same time, and now are only in this space. It is much larger than the downtown venue. They do have off-street parking, which is a plus. Dear Hubby and I stopped by as they were transitioning to Christmas from Fall/Thanksgiving/Harvest. I can imagine that it's a large undertaking! Some areas were set up and ready for the season ahead, while others were a work in progress. I didn't mind that, but it did make it more challenging to shop. Also, there was a group of women in the store that were chatting with each other, and would stop in one area that was key to passage to other parts of the store. Thus, I didn't get to see everything that I wanted to, as I didn't want to interrupt their visit. The interior space can be tight in certain areas, but they definitely have a lot of pretty merchandise to show off. They do fresh floral arranging, and a large amount of beautiful giftware. I bought two expensive cotton dish towels, which I turned in to pillow covers. The print featured old fashioned Santas and woodland creatures in a snowy forest. So charming! I believe I'll always remember that they came from this shop. Prices are full retail, though you might occasionally find something that catches your eye and doesn't make your wallet say, "Ouch". read more

You had me at first glance but maybe it should have stayed at a gleaming window wonder.. In visiting a winery around the corner (Cork, you should totally check it out) I parked right in front of this little boutique shop and the beautiful arrangements drew my eyes in like a kid to a candy store. From the succulent arrangements, Mediterranean themed candles, vintage baby blankets and books, and flannel varieties all soft as silk, this shop seemed to have it all. It reminded me of Carpinteria's beachy antique shops, all full of random priceless goods that come from near and far. I bought myself an adorable little hear shaped, metal bent ring for $14.50 as the price seemed marked as $4.50 and that was reasonable ring price for me. However, while scanning my card the gal working repeated the price aloud and did in fact apologize for the label not reading clearly but went on with the process, and the ring was adorable so I went along with it. I would definitely recommend this shop in finding good gifts for your loved ones around birthdays and holidays, but be fair warned the staff are not the most warm and cuddly people and the prices are somewhat above average. May be back but would probably hit my local thrift and antique stores first. read more

Lovely ambience, unusual merchandise, warm staff. This used to be my favorite shop for gifts, linen shifts, and small luxuries. Recently had difficulty being overcharged by 50 dollars, completely innocently. It took time to correct the error but I did not mind. When it showed up as a double charge on my Visa, I went into the shop again to straighten it out. The owner was short, suspicious, and snippy. No apology, no warmth, just defensive rudeness. I felt humiliated and angered by her cold, unfriendly response. read more

Jocelyn Kellogg is a wonderful, talented florist. She made our wedding a feast for the eyes. My husband and I were initially indecisive (to put it mildly) about our wedding decor, and Jocelyn patiently listened and guided us toward our flower/design preferences. All she needed was our color scheme -- red/orange/yellow -- and some examples of flower arrangements we liked, and then she worked her magic. And what magic it was! Jocelyn wove flowers into a wooden arch that we walked through for the ceremony. She hung sheer white fabric from a pergola opposite the arch. She created this beautiful sea of my favorite colors at the dinner tables. She used cubbyholes to display baby photographs and battery-powered candles. It was truly lovely. But it was my bouquet that took my breath away. I'd shown Jocelyn a photo of an orchid bouquet I liked, and she told me she could create something similar with a wildflower feel to it. She knew I loved poppies too, but then it got hot and the poppies in the area all died. Still, Jocelyn was somehow able to find Iceland poppies (in Europe) and get them in time to weave into the bouquet with the orchids. It was the most beautiful collection of flowers I've ever seen. No kidding. Jocelyn does really great work, and I highly recommend A Beautiful Day if you're looking for a florist whose love of her craft shines through in everything she creates. read more

This shop is a gift givers dream! From greeting cards, to planters, vases, body lotions , knick knacks, and jewelry and that's not even the start of it. The staff is friendly and always greet you with a smile even if they are in the middle of a transaction. The prices are moderate, I actually did find some things less expensive than other gift shops down on Main Street. They have a floral department as well. read more

I highly recommend Jocelyn and A Beautiful Day after working with her at my wedding last weekend at the Graf barn. I really wanted a rustic, romantic, loose collection of flowers in burgundy, blush, cream, and green that made it feel like a garden party. I also had some budget constraints. Jocelyn did a great job of working within my budget to create my flower vision. When cafe au lait dahlias weren't available because of the drought, she substituted protea (which I love) and Juliet roses. My bouquet was the perfect mix of textures and colors, and all the other bouquets and bouts were great. The lighting in the barn with candles everywhere was stunning, as was the asymmetric draping over the ceremony site. When I walked into the barn and saw flowers everywhere in my vintage vases (which Jocelyn kindly let me use to help with budget) and candles everywhere, it was magical. I can't even begin to say enough about the incredible flowers and decor Jocelyn created for our wedding. Everything was, if possible, MORE beautiful than we imagined....the centerpieces, the chandelier foliage, the bouquets and boutonnieres, the draped fabric, the flower crown she made for my rehearsal dinner, the cake florals, the votives and lights, the gorgeous aisle decor...and the chuppa...THAT CHUPPA! It was stunningly beautiful, and made us feel like we'd been transported to a magical land. She REALLY listened to what vibe we wanted and we trusted her with our vision entirely -- what a great decision that was. She went above and beyond, creating florals and special touches for every little detail, even things we hadn't even thought of. A friend of ours said it perfectly: "it's like if we went back to that place, it wouldn't be there." We couldn't agree more. We felt like we were stolen away into a fairyland world, a mirage of elevated beauty, emotion, and wonder that can never be recreated. I was so pleased with the three flower head wreaths I had ordered from Jocelyn for a photo shoot. I didn't know what we were going to wear yet and really didn't know what I wanted to be incorporated in the wreaths but she made me feel comfortable to rely on her expertise and I was so impressed and thrilled with the results. The photos came out amazing and it helped make this day an absolute perfect one. The flowers lasted long after the shoot and I was able to take some more pix of my own using them on my youngest child at the beach.
