I have a soft spot in my heart for shells, marine life and so on. I love a beach! On top, I was looking for a sea shell inspired ornament, so I stopped inside Sea Things. I passed by it many times while in Ventura, but never checked it out till my last visit. Not a big shop, but very cute, wide variety of merchandise, good quality, fun and cute. This shop has been around as long as I can remember. It's one of the few beautiful and nice things about downtown, as a lot of the rest is just a smelly homeless mess. Sea Things has such beautiful décor and souvenirs. It's on the pricier side, but everyone is friendly and the atmosphere is relaxing. There are thousands of hidden treasures in this store; don't be afraid to dive in and "sea" what you can discover. Perfect items for home, for gifts, and just for fun! We found a beautiful pair of abalone earrings with a sterling silver frame; the shopkeeper polished them before we left until they shone brightly! We also picked up a frosted tumbler in a gorgeous green color, some ceramic tile coasters with sea imagery, and a bowl made out of a coconut shell. This store is so fun to visit. read more

This evening I went to this gift store since it's cute and have a bunch of stuff that makes me wants to come inside and check what they have, then I went to the store, the lady at the shop asked me to use hand sanitizer, she escorted me to the place that has hand sanitizer, asked me and make sure that i use that hand sanitizer, which is I'm fine n totally understand since we experiencing the pandemic..then an American couple came, got in to the store, she didn't say anything, did not ask them to use hand sanitizer or even tell them where hand sanitizer placed, then my husband came to see me at the store, again she's right away approach him and asked him to use hand sanitizer!! I was looking for the stuff and I was like..hmm..what was that? Is it because we're Asian? Is it because covid from China?And she did that to us?! We not even came from China and even if we are, she not supposed to do that!! It's "racism" luckily..my husband doesn't want to make a big deal about it and asked me to just ignore it. He still look around and wanted to buy something from this store but I told him no, I won't buy anything from the store like this, I asked him to stepped out from the store right away. I don't feel like buying anything anymore from this store even if at the beginning I wanted to buy something and although I knew the price from this store are expensive..but no..she lost the sales and customer ..not worth it to buy something from the store like that.. This store reminds me of my childhood, going to a seaside town to visit my grandmother. There was a store like this in the town and it was my favorite place to go of all time. I might have looked forward to the shell store more than visiting family. This little shop right on the corner of Santa Clara and California streets in Ventura (about a block from the main downtown) is crammed with shells and skeletal sea life. Now that I'm a grown up I'm more conflicted about the ethics of selling these kind of things, which are often captured in the wild and killed for this whole industry, but I also still can't get over how beautiful these finds are and still maintain my selfish childhood desire to bring all of them home with me. Beautiful shells from around the world, in all sizes from itty bitty to huge conchs, as well as star fish, seahorse and puffed-up puffer fish corpses are also purchasable. Sea urchins, sand dollars, and beautiful dried underwater plant fronds are also available. They have an extensive jewelry case with earrings, necklaces, bracelets and other stuff made with sea artifacts. They have magnets, ornaments, and bumper stickers. It's a really amazing store to browse in. If you're bothered by the practice of collecting wildlife for sale, this store is exactly what you'd expect. First time in this store since was recommended by my fiance. Looking at a piece and the starfish on top was stuck on the piece and I wanted to buy it. I thought the starfish was part of the plate and it wasn't. The starfish that was stuck on the piece all of a sudden dropped on the larger piece underneath. I wanted to buy the smaller ceramic piece. The girl approached me if I was ok. Typically, retailers pardon you specially since their Merchandising is tight. I said I was ok. As she was walking me to the cash register, she says we have a policy that if you break it, you buy it and we have signs to ask for assistance. I told her that there was no sign there on the table. I ended up paying for the bigger piece and she asked me if I wanted the smaller piece so I said no. I told her that I am a Disabled Veteran. She even asked for my ID. I ended up paying for a broken piece and did not buy the piece that I liked to buy. I would not come back to the shop not because of the stuff are not cute to buy but because of untrained staff in customer service and conflict resolution. read more

I would give a no star if I could. My family and I came to the store and upon entering, we weren't greeted with a hello or welcome but were rudely demanded to use hand sanitizer. We understand Covid times but please post a FRIENDLY welcome sign with a note to use sanitizer upon entering. Too bad the customer service is based on discrimination. My family and I took my 10 year old step son today on his birthday to buy a shark tooth as he requested for one of his birthday gifts. I mean, what 10 year old asks for a shark tooth these days?!? Upon entering the store we were advised of the Covid rules which is completely understandable and we all complied. While we were shopping we were being looked at as if we were going to steal something by the lady that was working. We found the perfect shark tooth for my step son and went to pay. Since my step son got a $100 bill for his special 10th birthday the cashier told us that the $100 bill was fake with out even checking with a marker since she said she didn't have a marker to check the bill with. When we offered a different form of payment we were questioned by our debit card and needed identification for verification purposes. It's a shame the way the store is ran because you guys have such a great selection of ocean related items. My favorite thing to do is go to the beach with my family and it's a shame that we will never go there again to buy special sea shells or starfish for my step kids so they can start a collection. I also forgot to mention that a white family was shopping at the same time and they were being treated so nicely. If you aren't white, don't even bother wasting your time in that racist store. read more

So I stopped in this store to shop, woman was obviously training a new hire and as I entered the shop, proceeded to walk every aisle every room ...not a hello no acknowledgment of my presence at all. I saw a pretty pair of earrings in the case and had to walk over to ask the price ...and truthfully if she would have said hello as soon as I entered and made an attempt to engage me I would have bought the overpriced $75 earrings because I really liked them and was in a buying mood...but I decided no...you have to earn my business these days, being rude or indifferent just doesn't cut it with me anymore...sorry fail. Sea Things was the most amazing, unique boutique that we felt so blessed to find while stopping into Ventura that we turned around and came back at night to show my wife. We pulled into Ventura to drop my wife and son off at the Amtrak, I found Sea Things across the street from the Ventura Visitors Center, where we were checking on the Whale Tours where boats take tourists out to sea to see the whales migrate. In the perfect spot, next to the gas station, and the jewelry stores, Sea Things gift shop has shell art. Gorgeous with overwhelming collections of gifts, I brought my wife back into Ventura to see the shop after picking her up in Santa Barbara before driving back to Las Vegas. I wish we had a shop like Sea Things on Las Vegas Boulevard at Planet Hollywood. The owner is extremely creative. If you are searching for rare gifts on a drive along the Pacific coast of California, you definitely need to pull your car over and stop to shop at Sea Things in Ventura, California.
