I can't recommend AC Lock Service enough. Not being from the Bay Area, I always dread having to find a new person (I still haven't settled on a mechanic ...) but Tom is a one in a million find! I was recommended to Tom on Nextdoor when I needed my ignition repaired and my key wouldn't turn over. Tom fixed the ignition and made me new keys for less than half what the other locksmiths charge. He also discussed with us whether to replace the ignition entirely, because many times the repairs don't last very long and people end up having to pay for another repair (which none of the other locksmiths told me). As another reviewer said, he also put money in our parking meter when we had to wait for him to return from an errand. Tom helped us out again when my boyfriend's Honda was stolen and recovered and the ignition was punched. Again he was totally upfront and didn't charge for something we didn't need. He may hesitate about quoting prices over the phone, but take it as a good sign, I have always been pleasantly surprised. We have two old cars and it's not easy keeping them up, but at least we have Tom's help! read more

Within a few hours notice, AC Lock was at our door--did everything in about 2 hrs, and even stayed past 6:30 to make sure it was all done right. Everything was great except that the locksmith told my tenant that she should install a double-key deadbolt (the kind that was banned because they're not fire safe) because they're more burglar-proof than the single-key kind. Seriously awful! He said it was illegal for him to install one (no duh) but she could go pick one up at Home Depot. She called to ask me if that was okay, and of course I said absolutely not. Then she said, "I should've just done it without asking and then switched it back after I moved." This is like the sweetest person in the world saying this, so I know the guy must've scared her out of her wits. This sucks because: 1. I paid for him to come out because I wanted to help my tenant right away in the most professional way possible. Basically, I'm the one paying him and he's sabotaging me! 2. He scared my tenant. 3. He might've scared my tenant enough to make her do something really unsafe. 4. Now I have to sit around and worry that she'll do something unsafe. Not only do I care about her, but if she dies in a fire who's left to testify that I installed the proper lock? It crossed my mind to take a photo and have her sign something, but that's yet another icky stress-filled hassle. 5. He's wrong. The idea behind those locks is that the burglar can break in but then he can't open the door from the inside so he's limited in the amount of stuff he can steal. Whatever, we have huge windows and in this century, almost everything of value is very very small. Even fairly bulky items like TVs and desktop computers usually fit through whatever opening a burglar can use to get inside. This isn't 1972! 6. He's really wrong. All my tenant cares about is her physical safety. The last thing she wants is to come home to a guy trapped inside her apt. It would be about a thousand times better to come home to all her stuff stolen. I really hope Long's will instruct their employees to stop advising people to do illegal shit. It's unprofessional, dangerous, and shows that they don't know which side their bread is buttered. read more

I just called Long's Locksmiths to get a quote about opening a padlock of which I had lost the key to? The guy that answered the phone told me that they would either create me a new key or they would need to destroy the lock. I asked what method they would use to remove the lock, because I didn't want anything to get damaged. This is where he got irate, yelling at me, telling me that he can't give me an answer because he hasn't seen the lock. OK, buddy....Wow...settle down! I guess there is such thing as a stupid question. This guy has issues and I'd suggest not doing business with a person/company that treats customers like this. Second time using Long's Locksmith. My house framing had settled in a funny way, and the locks didn't quite line up without some real jamming from me. I said it wasn't urgent but Tom was able to come out right away anyway. Not only did he fix things so they lined up again, but he told me what happened with the framing and gave advice on what I would ask my contractor (for a recent back studio re-do) in adjusting doors so that weather and settling wouldn't cause further problems. The last time I locked myself out I called a different service which promised $50 over the phone and wanted $130 when he opened the door! Longs locksmith has integrity though. I'd already called another less friendly locksmith and taken two trips to Home Depot trying to solve my lock problem. Tom was really friendly and genuinely helpful on the phone and arrived in fifteen minutes to accommodate my busy work schedule. I went there for a repair of very old deadbolt lock and they helped me change the pins out on this old lock in 5 minutes. I was able to re-use this lock on my new door. They said the locks are not made this way anymore and this lock was a really good lock. Service was terrific and very friendly. Price was extremely reasonable. I called around to a few places and this was the cheapest place I could find to get a copy of a car key. Chip keys / transponder keys are expensive, and most other places charged $75 to $100 for a copy. Long's did it for $60 and I was a happy camper. Nice folks here too. read more

After loosing my car key, I was told by Toyota that it would cost me $200 to copy and replace my key, I went to Long's and they copied my key for $3 and it worked perfectly!! I don't usually write reviews, but I feel this is the least I can do to show my appreciation and respect to this establishment. Tom is an excellent locksmith with great experience and work ethics. My car key broke in the ignition and half of the key lodged very deep inside the ignition switch. Unfortunately my car was parked at a residential area with no permit, and Tom arrived within 30 minutes . He put in such great amount of effort to solve my problem on the spot. He even fixed my separate ignition problem (need to wiggle the key to turn it sometimes) for free because he wants the ignition to work perfectly. Within two hours of my late afternoon call to Long's today, Tom was on scene picking the lock to a door at my home which I had inadvertently locked. I was afraid he'd have to drill out the lock, but he picked it open in a flash and re-keyed both the deadbolt and the knob to match the rest of my houses's keys -- to avoid a similar lockout in the future. Long's is great. Lost my car keys. After much searching and fretting finally decided I needed to just get new ones. Other locksmiths said it would be $300, $175, $20 to look and at least $90 to rekey... The deal said they didn't have key codes going back more than 10 years (my car is 1997). But Long's said if you can bring the VIN and proof of ownership, we can look up the key code (they go back to 1990) and cut you a new one - all for $50. And they did. And it worked. The transmitter didn't lock and unlock the car. Quoted by dealers at 250 dollars for replacing the transmitter to my 2005 Corolla. Called in Longs Locksmiths as the last straw. The gentleman suggested me to drive to his store and checked with the keys. In a few minutes a new transmitter was replaced. Only 49.26 dollars after tax.
